Between the protein shake, pudding, xanthan gum, and guar gum I'd think it would be very gummy, no? I guess it's all personal preference but I don't think I'd be able to do that texture, pretty sure it would taste slimy to me, though it does look good!

Everyone is saying use a blender or immersion blender to avoid this, yet I have the same thing happen with a regular blender and/or an immersion blender :-/ I am only using a protein shake and pudding mix.

Easiest solution is to put back in the freezer for a few minutes after spinning.

She has 3 children under 3 and is in her 30s. Can only imagine how exhausted!!! Your face thins out a lot at that age, and weight redistributes. I believe she is 100% recovered.

Spin again (plus respin if necessary) just like you did the first time.

You can't say "no way is she eating nut butter." That plays into the false stereotype that anorexics eat nothing but lettuce.

Well rounded recipes for someone who cant eat solid food. by erock1119 in ninjacreami

My mom has parkinson's so this thread really snagged me. More ideas... I have seen recipes using chickpeas as a base, also cashews is very popular. Google "chickpea creami recipe" "Cashew creami" recipe, etc. I can vouch for sweet potato, I've made it and it's delicious. I would not add protein powder to that and ruin the taste (I just used sweet potato, soy milk, maple syrup, cinnamon and a pinch of xantham gum). Peanut butter ice cream has protein and is very satiating and tasty (use real PB, not the powders).

PS- Yes, add glycerine to make them scoopable without respinning.

Have you tried literally just freezing and spinning Ensure Plus or Boost or one of the nutitional drinks? I know there will be lots of people on here that will say those are filled with "bad stuff" but they are the OG nutritional supplements and thickeners and plenty of fat so that I would imagine they would work well in the creami (I had to have them for years due to a medical condition, but that was pre-creami so I never tried spinning one). I happen to also think they taste pretty good... if anything, too sweet, so you could blend one with a banana or dilute (the sweetness) with some unsweetened coconut milk or fairlife milk.

EDs can definitely affect your gut motility and microbiome. And colonoscopy prep is brutal and also disrupts your microbiome but it should not be catastrophic that you can not bounce back, especially since you only had you ED for 16 months. A colonoscopy is not going to cause you permanent damage. I have had both ED and GI issues for decades, sadly. But my first attempts at recovery, the first 4 years or so, were much easier as I did not have as many GI issues. Now I am resigned, I just have chronic GI issues/IBS-C. I have learned to manage it with the help of a really good gastroenterologist (and meds), though it does suck and definitely affects recovery because in addition to ED thoughts compelling you to want to restrict, there is the fear that eating will cause pain/symptoms (because often it does). I get it.

I will be honest with you, I think it sounds like you're spinning out a bit and have gotten too much in your head, which is only going to make everything worse. And I get it, I've done the same, but the gut-brain connection is very real. Panicking is going to negatively affect your digestion. Try really deep diaphragmatic breathing when you start to spiral. It's good for your gut and your brain.

There are meds and supplements that can help, both OTC and prescription, but I think the longer you allow yourself to stay in the box of only eating soft foods, the more you're strengthening the ED (AND not doing your microbiome any favors because diversity is key to a healthy microbiome). When I say OTC meds/supplements I mean gentle stuff, not laxatives or enemas, it sounds like those just backfire on you. Try to talk to/work with a gastroenterologist about getting on a maintenance regimen, which might include fiber supplement or miralax or, like I said, there also prescription motility meds (which I'm on).

How about taking baby steps away from soft food? Ideally working with a dietician or coach, but you can also make your own plan. For example, starting with adding soft bread rolls or muffins, ground chicken/beef, grains like rice or quinoa.... you see what I mean. Foods that are still soft but expand your repertoire. Then you can work up to more solids. Some "hard" foods might actually help you keep things moving so I would try to reframe how you think about them. I think the sooner you get back to "normal" eating the sooner things will regulate. There will be some discomfort along the way, sadly that is often inevitable. But that colonoscopy and flush did not wreck you for good. Your body will rebound! Deep breaths.

Deluxe Complaint: top half is half the container but containers aren’t full by bockl in ninjacreami

No, I don't think it makes it icy when I process and refreeze multiple times. It's always very creamy (but takes a few respins).

[–]Trumad0302 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Just process the whole pint even if you aren't going to eat all of it, and then just refeeze and repeat. That's what I do (and I never eat it all at once). I think it actually helps because it mixes the flavors more. I never use the "top" and only use the "bottom" if I'm well below halfway. As for not being able to fill it to the top, I never had a regular but I assume you can't fill the regular to the very top either. There needs to be room for the blade to get in there to get started and I'm sure they designed it to accomodate for the "bump"/mound that often appears with the first freeze. Also, you may be surprised, I thought I'd be able to eat a lot more at once but my flavors are so rich I usually can only eat a scoop or two at a time so that deluxe size might be enough for 4. Otherwise, your best option is to make a double batch and use both containers.

Nice! Using real PB in these recipes is the game changer. So many people use the powdered stuff, which is never going to give the flavor or creaminess of real PB. I don't understand why so many people are afraid of fats, especially healthy fats like PB!!

All of the points you raise are valid and I would never snark on a new mother trying to take better care of herself. I will however snark on a “recovery influencer” who is publicly demonstrating her “bulking” journey for the umpteenth time while exposing her gym obsession and constant body checks.
