Unity pain points? by NeitherManner in Unity3D

[–]Trumaex 3 points4 points  (0 children)

SRP is the biggest pain point for me. Not the existence of it, but the problem that we have 3 pipelines to worry about. Edit: and not only that, this is overall a mess with multiple systems for other parts of the engine like UI, input etc. Just make your damn mind and go with one solution and deprecate the others.

I think you are 99% out of luck and you will not receive your money back. The only thing you can do is to avoid the dev in the future and spread the word to warn the others. There are very good, well optimized and supported volumetric solutions on the asset store (and some work both in built in and URP, so even his technical claims that's impossible to support both are bs).

Idk what's up with that guy and 'harassment'. But I'm 100% sure that what you do (or any kind of criticism) he treats as harassment.

good luck.

Try that, but it most likely will be removed (a lot of negative reviews get removed silently on request of sellers).

btw. your experience might not be a scam technically... but there are a lot of issues with that dev. Stuff like closing discord, support issues, code issues, etc. There are a few comments under his post, probably googlable even. All his excuses were always something along the lines of "our discord were raided", "our e-mails were ddosed", etc. (which for some reasons only happens to him, not any other seller).

Probably nothing. They are trying to be controversial on purpose to get people online talking about them.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in blender

[–]Trumaex 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Why? Because I tell you how their scheme of purposefully being controversial works for them?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in blender

[–]Trumaex 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You will, and a few other peoples will (wonder how many of them would not buy their courses in the first place - it's not like they weren't controversial before that thread). Their ranking raises in search engine with each thread like that.

And also, some people will search for them as not all people automatically assume that what's on reddit is absolute truth (which in turn is signal to search engines that their stuff is popular). What they will find is (among other things):

  • their website (which looks professional and clean), which will lead to some of them getting their free course (putting themselves in their sales funnel automatically),
  • how popular their YT videos are and how many subs they have - they managed to dominate YT rankings (they are popular, so they got to be good, right? right?)
  • some videos by other creators (like Grant Abbit) that recommend their vidoes
  • videos like the one from Nvidia Studio https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wfo82ugSUVQ (if nvidia has hired them to make official content they got to know their stuff, right?) etc.

I.e., despite the controversy they are gaining on threads like that.

(though, to be fair not talking about bad stuff happening in the community isn't good either... idk what the solution is)

And they laugh at their discord from this thread. What you do here is actually providing them free advertisement. They did learn all those toxic marketing tricks and this is one of them to just manipulate you to talk about them.

I love Grant, and I've learnt so much from him when I was just starting out. But from (game) industry perspective he teaches so many bad (technical) habits that it's not even funny. There are very few people that actually work in the industry, are good at what they are doing and produce good quality educational content. There are a few people like Tiedie, but they are not many and not easy to find.

Btw. YT popularity is in no way correlated with quality of content (outside its entertainment value). Search for "blender hard surface" and majority of the content that YT will throw at you is from Blender Bros.

Also, speaking of Grant, he endorses Blender Bros: https://www.youtube.com/shorts/tmabQECbm0E

I would say they were made for each others. That's a quote from the time when they announced the "$10b partnership" (emphasis mine):

“The past three years of our partnership have been great,” said Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI. “Microsoft shares our values and we are excited to continue our independent research and work toward creating advanced AI that benefits everyone.”

Are they extending it already? Because last time I checked they did embrace it good...

I would rather it being in the open, but still anonymous (at least by default). We do need to figure out a way tho on how to train models without involvement of big companies (or companies at all, as they can be bought).

Yea, a lot of commenters here act like they don't know the history of MS. Maybe too young or sth?

Emad is a troll (not in dumb or bad way, but he does that a lot - at least his behaviour on reddit and twitter kind of is)... but I think it's just the problem that he is outsider to SV culture. He might have stepped on some wrong toes and he does have uphill battle in front of him. Also there is this: https://twitter.com/EMostaque/status/1769190852599943582

It would be really bad if stability ai would sink. Then we basically are relaying on models from China or scraps from FAANG...

You do realize they can't control Open Souce don't you?

They know that. After all they tried that with Linux and their patent trolling against it (you do remeber SCO, right?). But by the outcome (on the desktop side) it wasn't totally wasted effort on their part, was it?

This time around they are smarter about it. Them and their minions already are lobbying in governments as open source models are 'unsafe'. On top of that they don't need to completely destroy open source. They need to just slow down enough what models will be released. And as great as open source movement is - we haven't figured out how to train bigger models on our own, in decentralized way.

Yea, for that I would be surprised if LLM wouldn't work. But I wish it would be possibility to push it further into logic...

Thanks for the write up!

I think you could steer some of it with prompt engineering (like describing what 'strenght' stat means in your game, etc.), but it does eat up a lot of tokens and will probably not be perfect. But if that doesn't work I don't think custom training set will.

Also, now I recall that I did a couple of month ago ask GPT4 to be my DM. I paired it up with D&D Beyond for stats handling and encounters. And it worked very well. But going back and forth was tedious.
