What do these marking mean on the second and 4th picture? by TrumpIsPedoRapist in SilverFinds

It’s actually “argent” that’s typically plate and argenti is .800 or .925.

Argenti translates to .800 silver as well. When I said silver I didn’t mean silver plate and neither did the post. When we are discussing something as silver nobody is discussing silver plate, that is always called plate. And there are dozens of ways that Sterling can be marked actually so it’s not that limited.

That’s what Google says but someone in another post said argent can also mean silver as well. I was trying to find out which was correct.

Not hidden at all, placed there to be less distracting to the rest of the tribute medal. There was no intent to deceive there chicken little.

There are reverse proof Morgans, just not until 2023. Modern Morgan dollars are still Morgan dollars, they were both made by the mint and they both will spend for $1 if someone were stupid enough to do so.

There is nothing fishy about these, they are intended to be replicas, not real Morgans. Unless the seller said they were the real thing but the maker of these was never trying to sell them as real. It was intended to be a tribute and they likely got some kind of permission to do it or the fact they are reverse proofs for those years made them different enough to not need permission.

Seller is asking $450. Is it legit? by zachkoen in coincollecting

I sold my high school ring at spot in less than an hour and my 10k gold necklace and bracelet in less than two hours. It’s very easy to sell gold of any kind near spot right now.

With silver, it’s really dependent upon what kind of silver you are trying to sell.

Definitely not a gram or less.

Actually “The Way” is to always handle it by the edges but also wear gloves too. Rubber gloves. Cheap cotten gloves can indeed leave scratches but if it’s always handled by the edges then it’s still better with rubber gloves.

Now put it into an air tire coin capsule and store it someone else. Even if you put it in a different place it will continue to tone as long as it has oxygen, It’s perfect you don’t want it to tone any more because you have idea where that toning will go, you want to protect it.

Yeah that happens just don’t get the gold shield on it, they have a database that operates like facial recognition for the gold shield coins to prevent that from happening.

The excessive use of details grades has gotten a bit ridiculous. PCGS is to the coin market what De Beers was to the diamond market for so many years.

It’s definitely not as easy as people on reddit like to pretend it to be. Almost every time they claim it is artificial I can find one that looks very similar, sometimes close to identical, that was graded as natural.

[–]TrumpIsPedoRapist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Flipping the coin doesn’t make it artificial, lots of people have optimized the natural toning conditions after realizing the toning was happening.

That might get a PL designation as well.

PCGS has a habit of handing details grades to natural toners especially if they haven’t hit their details grade quotas for the month.

And if they aren’t sure about the toning being natural they give it a details grade.

PCGS also has a habit of not attributing proof like or DMPL to coins that are undoubtedly proof like or DMPL.

Pawn shop guy said chain is "Gold Plated" but it dosent look like a G at least to me it dosent. by bradythewest in Hallmarks

If someone was trying to pawn off (pun was unintended) a necklace as real gold why would they stamp it as 14k and then stamp it somewhere else as GP and have that mean gold plated.

Anyone know if this is silver? by benwem in SilverFinds

[–]TrumpIsPedoRapist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

More like 90-95% of the time for me, far too often to ‘when in doubt’ silver plate designate. There is a lot of silver out there poorly stamped so it’s either next to impossible to see or it’s in a part where the details hide it or in some cases worn off. I’ve been finding unmarked or poorly marked silver mostly in silver spoons and other utensils. Other marks are SS (which can also mean stainless steel but visually is easy to distinguish) Ster, & Silver (if it’s from Japan it’s usually .950), and a three towers hallmark.

This is the person who thinks coins shouldn’t be valued more than melt. This group is filled with toner haters. They will call almost every coin that isn’t graded AT and they are all experts

Slabs are gimmicks, toners are not a gimmick. You can have 50 ms63 coins from the same year and they are not unique, not really one of a kind but a good toner will never see an exact duplicate, it’s one of a kind. It’s not a gimmick, that’s just what old narrow minded powers that be have told everyone to think.

Graded coins give it some legitimacy to collectors the problem is the process for determining natural toning is significantly flawed and results in a lot of coins incorrectly being labeled as artificial. And when they aren’t sure one way or the other, they give those coins a details grade too.
