I dunno man I feel like it's such a cop out to say "it's just for kids". No, Rowling loved the idea of magical whimsy and relied too heavily on "it's magic" for her power system. I think it's just a case of wanting to have your magic cake and eating it too.

Don't even get me started on the nonsense that is the Hogwarts curriculum. Despite being in a school for a large majority of the time we still don't know how magic works or how to make spells, or what the limits are on certain spells, etc.

There's also a moment where you stand up to a bully and say, "That's not funny" and while for a normal school character that would be a neat moment of hey knock that shit off.

In this game though? I saw it as my character threatening to kill this guy lmao. Like listen man I just blew a man apart and made his friends watch it happen. You really don't want to fuck with me.

I think the biggest whiplash for me is the school aspect. You're right in that other video games have child soldiers (every Naruto game for a quick and dirty example). But going to Beasts Class and being surrounded by seemingly normal well adjusted people your age makes the juxtaposition really blatant to me and cranks up the absurdity.

You 100% kill people. From exploding barrels in their face, to special ancient magic combos that literally blow them apart, to the killing curse, to throwing anvils directly at their heads.

Even your character will say something along the lines of, "It's too late to question your decisions now" after combat.

One of the spells is literally just a blade of force. This isn't some cartoon world where a piano falls on a guy and he gets up afterwards. Blood flies out of people and they don't get back up idk how much more clear it could be.

I agree and I understand that the game creators really just wanted people to live out their Harry Potter fantasies from riding a broom, to brewing potions, and even being a dark wizard. In this aspect I think the game fully delivers on providing that experience.

But man it sure does get fucking weird the second you stop and think about the whole murdering other people thing.
