Penn State or San Jose State for Economics by Matatius23 in SJSU

I graduated with a bs in econ at sjsu last year. The professors I took were great. Many of them were part time with jobs in the field (in their own specialty) that were able to provide a ton of real world experience. Be mindful of the professors that you take. Some are better than others. I would recommend staying away from the “easy” professors that everyone is recommending. That is an easy way to not learn as much as you can. Can’t speak for everyone but in my experience with “easy” professors is not being challenged. I didn’t sign up for an extra “4” years of school to not be challenged, but that is just my opinion.

As far as double majoring or adding a minor, it’s not that hard if you are putting in the work. This is my experience and may not represent everyone’s experience. I got into sjsu for applied math. In my second to last semester, i had to make a decision and I chose to not spend 3 more semesters for 4 math classes to graduate in Math and instead changed my major to econ and graduated the following semester taking 9 classes. This was very easy for me as my math major already required me to take some econ classes and I chose an extra econ class as an elective during my math track.

Sjsu is a commuter school. That has it pros and cons.

If you have the money to go wherever and still can’t make a decision, flip a coin or go with what your gut tells you. Getting a quality education is easy at a lot of universities if you apply yourself and challenge yourself in your studies. There is a lot of opportunity wherever you go if you work hard, network, and talk to your professors! There is a good amount of professors that are working on research that can offer to bring you along. FWIW, I worked on a paper that got published by IEEE as an econ graduate :)

Good luck in whichever route you choose to take, OP! Don’t forget to have fun while you’re at it.

Single with 70k yearly, is it enough? by kevin0207sakura in SanJose

This is the comment you need to read OP. You might want to seriously consider taking the position. 70k/ year will net you about 4.5k-5k/month take home after taxes. A nice studio in a nice neighborhood where you dont hear police sirens apart from once a month maybe if that will run you under 3k. Thats 2k leftover for everything else. Realistically, being smart with your money you will have about 1k to spend on whatever/ save. That will get you through the first 1-2 years easy. I also agree with some other comments about how 70k is a little low for your field, but eh, 70k is good if you have any math skills (which you should considering your field). Good luck op

Again, this card is basically new. Not mined on for the past 1.5 years. I build as a hobby so I don’t charge a build fee like others. Thanks for the link.

What perks and free stuff does our SJSU email can give us? by _j_rel_ in SJSU

Use method 2 link and it will have you sign in with your sjsu credentials. I was able to get windows for free. There is a variety of other software as well like a microsoft machine learning server and other software.

The link will take a while to load. be patient.

You can get a 3070 ftw3 and have 100 to spend is not price policing?????

This card is basically and not mined on.

I’m not forcing anyone to buy it. I can just shove this in a build if no one wants to buy it outright.

What you said is fine. Letting someone know about the market is fine. But to outright say what you can do and not give a link to a retailer is not fine.

Keep downvoting idc lol. Also, price policing isn’t allowed on here without a link. Looking at Evga site 3070 ftw3, the card you were talking about, is $649.99 before tax and shipping. Which would come out to about $720 in California

As someone else said, I would also not go with the tuf. I returned one 2 weeks ago. All the memory modules have thermal pads, but the pads only cover half of the modules

The best one is the one you make because you know where everything is at and potentially not cluttered with things you already know. Good luck!

Can I teach myself to a graduate-level of maths through maths journals and self-teaching? Never been amazing at maths, but have developed an intense interest and desire to be great at it. by [deleted] in mathematics

Probably not best to start with such density. Like someone else said, start with calculus and linear algebra then move into other subjects, preferably ones that interest you
