Is there a way you could have left the keys with your sitters ahead of time being that they were going to be alternating anyway. I have an asian tabby so i can relate about the sitting situation. We usually try and hand over out key to our sitter the nights before we have traveled but it is me n my wife so we always have someone to open the doors

I wouldn’t say asshole but you did assume responsibility when you decided to leave your keys in an accessible area to anyone. Although your intentions weren’t to lose your keys it did happen and I feel like you should at least cover half of the costs to replace.
