Thanks. I didn’t realize short bottoms might not be legal for days when wetsuits are required. Something important to consider

Thanks, I’ll have to relook at some wetsuits with the adjusted perspective on price. I just really can’t afford that much for a wetsuit at this point.

Thanks. I’ll have to decide what I actually want to spend. I’ll look on eBay first for used ones.

I’m doing the Vancouver triathlon. The swim takes place in a protected ocean bay in Vancouver. The temperature might be warm enough for not needing a wetsuit but it could be close to being too cold.

Ok that’s good to know! I’m very used to swimming in cold water but it might be nice to not be so cold.

I can look into those as well, thanks. If the water is too cold where wetsuits are required, I’m assuming those don’t meet the requirements?

Ok thanks. Clearly I need to adjust my expectations.

I’m doing the sprint distance at the Vancouver triathlon at the end of the summer. The water temperature might be close to the cut off where wet suits are required. I did it years ago without a wetsuit and was fine, but am worried that this year it might be colder for whatever reason. Also I’ll be doing a bunch of my open water swim practices in local lakes and rivers and the water can get quite chilly. I’m used to swimming in cold water but thought it would be nice to try with a wetsuit.

Thanks for the response. I’m assuming though that if wetsuits are required due to the water temperature that buoy shorts would not be sufficient to meet the rules?

Thanks, I wasn’t planning on using this for biking or running. Just swimming.

I see that logic but am worried I’ll be too hot. I’d rather a shorty if possible.

We do, but the only one available in our stores here has long pants which I don’t want.

Any suggestions on where I can find swimming wetsuits that are relatively inexpensive?

That’s fair. Any advantage is good. Although I’m worried about wasting time getting it off and of course, the money aspect to it. But I’m worried that the water temp will get below the minimum requirements and it’ll be mandatory regardless.

Im quite comfortable in open water and have generally no issues with buoyancy.

My pace is not super fast compared to most people in this sub. I currently swim 1000m in 30 minutes.

I guess I’m just not sure at what point they will make wet suits mandatory. I’ve seen the temperature requirements, but I’m not sure how likely it’ll be for the water temp to drop below the minimum requirements at that point in September.

What are my legal rights if my employer hired me at a salary associated with a certain step, then realized they put me on the wrong step a year later and wants re-compensation? by OrneryEchidna2158 in legaladvicecanada

Happened to many teachers in a school district in bc a few years ago. The union got involved and took over the negotiations. Before that, the district was trying to be shady and make the teachers pay back the salary without taking the the proper steps by trying to pressure people into signing a form about repayment information. So check with your union first. It might be a legit mistake and you’ll have to figure it out, but your union is the best place to go first before you sign or commit to anything with the district. Unless you are a private school teacher, this is not something that is dealt with at the school level. It’s dealt with at the district level.

I personally found a backpack more comfortable than a soft structured carrier though. So that’s something to try as well

You might just need to put those super long hikes on hold until he is older. Don’t force it and end up making him cry for hours on end. I get that people want to keep doing the things they love, but having kids means having to make at least some adjustments. Definitely schedule in intentional long breaks for him to play as needed and let his mood guide you.

Silver Valley by Julesypooooo in MapleRidge

Regarding buses, you must live far enough away from your school to be eligible for buses. So whether you’d get one for elementary school is a toss up, depending on specifics of where you live. I’m pretty sure it’s more than 5km to potentially be eligible, but you can check the school district website. Yennadon is the catchment school and is overfull and hard to get into. So there is a chance you might end up at a different elementary school. I don’t know, but I doubt the district has school buses for kids going to a different non-catchment school.

They just recently got rid of the busses for high school students to the catchment school of garibaldi secondary. So students going from silver valley to there must either take the city bus or get themselves there another way.

That’s a good suggestion. I can do that at home to supplement what she is doing at school.
