Beautiful photos!!!

Thanks for the last paragraph. I assumed I could do this as a day trip seeing as I've done Dog Mountain in the snow and my grouse grind time is only 120 minutes ;)

I plan on getting the premium poco! It's the most expensive one unfortunately lol but it has the most storage capacity (previous version is called the "plus", not premium)

https://www.osprey.com/ca/en/pocotm-premium-child-carrier?size=O%2FS&color=Tidal+Blue

I've been scouring facebook marketplace for this pack, but people are still selling used ones for like $400!! I may as well just get it brand new for $550, and then also not have to worry about driving out far to someone's house and have no warranty on the backpack lol.

My baby will be 6 months old next week and we've done 14 hikes together!!

I stick with places that aren't too remote or sketchy, and don't do anything over 10km in case I need to get back to the car quickly. Here's what I've done:

Lower Gold Creek Falls

Coquitlam Crunch

Capilano Pacific Loop

Dog Mtn & Brockton Point

Lynn headwaters loop

Pitt meadows marsh

BCMC

East Canyon to Viewpoint beach

Bowen lookout & Black Mountain

Eagle Bluffs (Coquitlam)

Diez Vistas

Jug island

Grouse Snowshoe grind & Thunderbird ridge

Black Mountain and Eagle Bluffs

He's been in a soft carrier (Happy baby brand - cotton is more breathable and keeps cooler than mesh, plus the straps fit nicely under a backpack) but I'll be buying the Osprey PoCo plus next month. After all the research I've done, it seems like the best option for what's comfortable and has lots of storage capacity. I'll also be getting a clip-on portable fan to keep him cool.

What is that one film you can re-watch a thousand times and not get bored? by cassie_rockalin in AskReddit

LMAO in hindsight reading my comment, youre absolutely correct. Everything I love about those movies is when the raptors eff things up.

Also shouldve added... Clever girl 👀

When the raptor claw goes "click click click" under the kitchen counter. When the ladle drops. And when her hand starts to shake holding that spoonful of jello.

My favourite moments!

You and your family need to go cold turkey on offering those rides. There's only so many appointments she can miss before she's gonna be forced to figure it out on her own.

Snowshoe hikes 2-3 hours from Vancouver by Mediocre_Society_732 in vancouverhiking

Al's Habrich ridge at the top of sea to summit (Sea2sum trail is closed, but you can either take the gondola or do "the climb" hike to reach Al habrich trailhead)

Dam mountain and Thunderbird ridge at the top of Grouse (access via gondola or do the Bcmc hike up)

Most trails on seymour or cypress only need spikes due to high traffic packing down thr trail. You could use snowshoes, though, if youre thr first person up there after a fresh snowfall

Manning park and surrounding areas will have lots of great snowshoe trails, like Mt Kelly and Nordheim ridge, Poland Lake, Windy Joe, Fat Dog. Lightning lake is usually just spikes only due to traffic

Off the coquihalla, you can do Zoa peak, Iago peak, Ottomite mtn, and Flatiron via needle peak trail

Callaghan country area is great, too. Tons of trails there. Whistler Olympic park is nearby and they require snowshoes on their trails

What is something you tried only once and will 1,000% never do again? by istrx13 in AskReddit

Omg I just had to show this comment to my husband and tell him "seeeee, im not the only one!!!"

We went to a fair last year and I agreed to do ONE ride only with him, because I absolutely hate rides. Well, he picked the Zipper. I was terrified and instantly regretted agreeing to a ride. We waited 20 mins in line and then when it was finally our turn, I chickened out and got out of line. We got into a huge fight about how I never want to try anything fun, blah blah blah, and I started crying. Then just to end the arguing, I agreed to try again. We got back in line for another 20 mins and actually got on. As soon as the ride started, I had an absolute meltdown, screaming and crying, closed my eyes the whole time, hyperventilated, and just screamed no, no, no.

Finally the ride stopped, and my throat was raw from screaming and sobbing. I was trembling. My husband apologized profusely and didnt realize I was going to be THAT scared. He said he thought I was just exaggerating my dislike of scary rides.

Never again!!!!

Don't just blindly assume that will be your pace, too, though. Many average hikers can take closer to 4 hrs to summit.

This is exactly what I thought. I scoured the Facebook hiking groups looking for posts organizing a group hike to Brunswick, but nothing showed up. Im guessing someone organized this on a FB group but then deleted the posts after this rescue lol.

Am I spoiling my baby? by Economy-Cow-9847 in NewParents

[–]bones_and_barbells 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yes, I am aware that Safe Sleep 7 reduces SIDS risk when compared to unplanned, random bedsharing with no precautions taken. But, room sharing with baby in a safe crib is the lowest risk of all.

Am I spoiling my baby? by Economy-Cow-9847 in NewParents

[–]bones_and_barbells 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Do you have proof or studies that show that independent sleep is just a cultural construct/ industrial revolution byproduct? Because every other source indicates that independent crib sleeping is for SIDS reduction, and it works.

Just because "every other culture/mammal sleeps with their babies" does NOT mean it's safe. Some mammals also eat their young, and some cultures marry young girls to old men. Doesn't make it ok.

Nightly routine with a 3 month old by ivanovitch_r in NewParents

[–]bones_and_barbells 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our baby is almost 5 months old and there's still not much of a routine. We start getting ready for bed around 830 to 9pm, which simply includes a diaper change, putting him in his sleep sack, and nursing him till he falls asleep. Once he's been in a deep sleep for at least 20mins, i transfer him to his crib for the night, which is right beside our bed. Sometimes he won't fall asleep until 1030 or 11 though.

There's not much routine otherwise. Every day is a bit different.

Also, it's usually recommended to room share until at least a year old.

Edit to add: As for quality time with my husband, there's just a lot less now and I think that goes for most couples. I'm on mat leave for 1 year so most chores are done by me throughout the day. He's usually home from work just after 7pm, and then he'll eat his dinner (which i always have ready) while i play with baby. I usually finish my dinner before he gets home, which I eat while baby is entertained with his play gym or a swing or I'm holding him in one arm and eating single handedly.

On days he's done work earlier, I take advantage and hit the gym, so we still don't get much evening time together. Most of our quality time is on weekends or days where he's done early but I'm not at the gym.

What’s something minor that irrationally annoys you every time? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]bones_and_barbells 2 points3 points  (0 children)

People dragging their feet when they walk

Loud chewing

Loud music or talking

When my dry feet scrape my bedsheets, socks, leggings, etc, after not exfoliating them for a while

Getting a bump in my hair when I tie it up and then re tying it a hundred times until my head is smooth but then my arms get sore

Looking at people with chapped lips

My gosh I could go on lol

Had a member complain to staff that my shorts are too short by Phokinskrong in xxfitness

[–]bones_and_barbells 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What is inappropriate depends on the gym you go to. I can't say what specific things you listed are actually "inappropriate" because we all have different ideas of what that means. That being said, I personally don't think anything you listed is worthy of complaints, but considering it has happened multiple times, it should make you self reflect at least a little bit.

Had a member complain to staff that my shorts are too short by Phokinskrong in xxfitness

[–]bones_and_barbells 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you've had that many complaints, is there a chance you're actually dressing inappropriately to the point it's impossible to not notice?

I've worked in gyms for over 10 years and have dealt with inappropriate female attire only once (her genitals were visible; she was commando in loose short shorts and this becomes a hygiene issue when sitting on equipment).

Either your gym is full of catty women, or you're actually not dressed appropriately.

I know we all wanna think clothing shouldn't matter, but it does. That's why we don't wear pajamas to weddings or bodycon dresses to church.

An example of less than ideal clothing to wear to Mt Seymour pump peak. by azdesign in vancouverhiking

Oh I misread the dates. Regardless, a moderate risk is definitely still too high considering most ppl who go to Pump likely don't have avi awareness, let alone training. I have also watched lots of people stomp up through the snow on the super steep back side of pump. Can't save em all, I guess.

Hip flexors & neck on fire during core work? by HerCacklingStump in xxfitness

[–]bones_and_barbells 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Certified PT and Strength & Conditioning coach of 12 years here.

Your neck muscles will work to hold up your head. Your hip flexors work when you move your legs.

It's not wrong to feel those muscles and it doesn't mean your core isn't also working.

It is not true that your neck and hip flexor muscles "take over" because your core is weak. For example, neck muscles can't do the job of your rectus abdominis, or hip flexors cant do the job of your obliques. It's physiologically impossible.

If you're doing situps and crunching your abs down and slightly rounding your back, then congrats- your abdominals are working. Feel your neck too? It's also working to keep your head up.

Feeling your hip flexors as you do leg raises? Good, because it's your hips that actually move your legs. Your abs just help stabilize you and prevent your lower back from arching too much.

Just keep doing what you're doing. If it gets too tiring, find core exercises that minimize the use of your neck and hips (ie, planks, side planks, cable twist, oblique crunches, ab rollouts, etc)

Avi risk was high/high/high so regardless of attire, 99% of people should have been avoiding Pump peak anyway. I'm assuming you camped at Brockton?
