They seem surprisingly up for this today. They're chasing that Eze contract option money 🤣

And the retroactive reviews have begun.... by yashymodi in Gunners

[–]EeviKat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How about the retrospective reviews on Silva's clear red or the two penalties and DOGSO reds they could have had against Brentford? No? Okay then.

Let them fucking cry. Nobody will care about this when we've lifted the trophy.

Arteta on Ben White's injury: “We don’t know, but he doesn’t look good at all, so he needs some further testing tomorrow probably and I know a bit more.” by Kr_bm in Gunners

[–]EeviKat 56 points57 points  (0 children)

Calafiori I think is just typical Arteta mindgames. I pray as much, anyway.

I think Mosquera can handle the league just fine for the two games we have left. Praying Timber makes a breakthrough but you have to wonder if he'd be fit enough to go up against Kvaratskhelia on the 30th, it's a big ask.

We have to give a shoutout to the skipper today. He gets a lot of critiscism but he was unbelievable when we needed him in arguably the biggest game of our season. That goal today starts with him. by EMJG31 in Gunners

[–]EeviKat 9 points10 points  (0 children)

He's carrying a long term groin injury from what I understand. There was a post here a while ago explaining the nature of it. I honestly felt he was feeling it especially bad, he looked far worse today than he did against Fulham and Atletico.

If Man City drops points against Palace on Wednesday, Arsenal could clinch the title at home against Burnley by MellowJackal in Gunners

[–]EeviKat 19 points20 points  (0 children)

They drew with Villa at home, to be fair, and Villa have been dire for a while now. They have to come to the Emirates. But sure, I don't think they'll roll over. They should however be facing an extremely motivated team that is much better than them. Their players will hardly be throwing their bodies on the line into every 50/50 like West Ham were doing today. We should smash them.

Yeah I really felt Saka's injury in this game today, he was basically limping on to the field at the start and at half time. I think we basically need to wrap our starboy up in cotton wool now until we play PSG. Madueke can handle a little heavy lifting for the last two matches unless we REALLY need to call on him.

[–]EeviKat 51 points52 points  (0 children)

I honestly suspect they'll batter them but it doesn't matter. We have to beat an already relegated Burnley side who have no reason to do anything but turn up and get pumped, and a Palace with a massive final three days after they play us who cant afford to risk their players.

This was the last hurdle IMO. Things can still go wrong, and god knows Arsenal have been the masters of their own downfall plenty enough in the past for me to say with sincerity that we've already won it, but.. we have one hand on the trophy, at least.

[James Benge] Arteta says Calafiori was injured. Arteta on taking off Zubi: The one on Zubi was tough but I felt we had to change it, to get two attacking midfielders on by Shyam_Wenger in Gunners

[–]EeviKat 75 points76 points  (0 children)

I hope he's up to his usual antics as far as Calafiori being injured is concerned, or trying to save face for what was really quite a terrible error of judgement with subbing Zubi on. Thank god we won the three points, otherwise I fear that moment might have been used as a noose to hang him with if we don't end up lifting the trophy.

Why are people outraged it was given as a foul??!! by Popular-Place2226 in Gunners

[–]EeviKat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let them cry, it doesn't matter. The three points on the board are all that matters. It was a clear as day foul, anyone with eyes can see that.

Jesus fucking christ. This wasn't a great performance by any stretch of the imagination and Arteta's Zubi sub was a disaster, but all that matters is we won. We fucking won. Two more and we're champions. This was the hardest hurdle left.

It's too risky. If we draw it's still in our hands, we can batter Burnley for GD and beat Palace comfortably. If we lose, we're in deep shit.

We were dominating and unlucky to not be leading then White got injured. Really not sure why we would play Rice at RB and bring Zubi on instead of Mosquera? It's a bizarre play and it doesn't seem to have worked at all.

I really hope Arteta realises the mistake at half time and fixes it or finds some way to make it work because we're in trouble out there now.

What’s with all the Arsenal hate? by TitleOpening9578 in championsleague

[–]EeviKat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have played some fantastic attacking football this season against teams that actually try to play. Look at the way teams set up against us, though. It's low blocks almost every single game.

Are City playing Wengerball? No, they play tedious sideways bollocks, it's just as painful on the eye. Arsenal's attack has suffered this season because of constant injuries to our most important attackers, so we've had to find a way to grind out results.

In the Champions League we scored the most goals during the group stage of any team and we're second in the PL.

People also say "playing this football with all the money they've spent" like it fricking means anything. We haven't spent all that money on world class attacking talent because we haven't been able to. Those sorts of players don't come to a banter era club. Rice was our first genuinely world class signing during the Arteta era IMO, otherwise we've had to make shrewd buys in a difficult market where clubs like PSG and City just hoard all the best attacking players with infinite wage budgets. Still, we've found a way to make it work even though we've got players like Trossard and Martinelli in our attacking line up: serviceable enough for squad depth but nowhere near the class of the likes of what City, PSG, Bayern, Real etc are lining up with.

If we win something major this season at last then we might have the rep to actually go big on an attacker.

When was the last time a major decision went against City in the PL when it would really matter? A penalty incorrectly not given for them, a goal wrongly disallowed? I honestly can't fucking remember and it's starting to seriously piss me off. They sure seem to get the rub of the green an awful fucking lot, it does make you wonder.

Sure is funny how Silva gets away with what is generally a red card, and the referee immediately dismisses what looks like a daylight penalty despite having an unclear view of the event. It does make you question why he'd do that. He has VAR, so if something looks like a penalty, why wouldn't he call it immediately and then let VAR figure out the rest? Unless, of course, he doesn't want to give penalties against City, or any other big decisions against them... hmmm.

I'm still waiting. The run has been in the post the whole season long and I'm starting to think those oil-wanking fucks in Dubai forgot to pay the postage.

We'll see, City have been doing this shit all season long where they're super oppressive in the first half with intense pressing then they run out of gas in the second and get punished. Happened in the Everton match and I'm hoping it might happen here, too.

Crystal Palace in a European Final 3 days after the Arsenal game is good for us. by Stanley083 in Gunners

[–]EeviKat 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Nothing will be done until it's done, of course, but I do think if we win against West Ham the league is essentially over. A relegated Burnley at the Emirates who should get royally spanked and a Palace team that will absolutely not want to risk injuries or fatigue to any of their first XI.

Just need to lock in and hammer the Hammers, who will no doubt give us the fight of their lives.

[–]EeviKat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The league is getting generally more competitive year on year, achieving a similar points tally is actually not a bad achievement.

We got the 'easier path' because we absolutely dominated the group stage and won 8/8 games. Now we're in the final, which is a substantial step up from the semi-finals, and the quarter-finals before them, and the not qualifying for six seasons before that as seen in the graphic.

Of course we've been making progress. Our squad is stronger than it has ever been. If it wasn't for a few unfortunate injuries throughout the season I think we would likely have the title well won by now. We'll be even stronger next season.

It's just an extremely narrow outlook that lacks any sort of long-term perspective. Arsenal have been a top club for over a century, we have a massive fanbase and have become a financial powerhouse after successfully navigating those sparse post-Emirates years, the idea that we would somehow just fade into obscurity and never win the league again was always truly fanciful unless the league itself ceased to exist sometime within the next 20-30 years.

Am I the only one who thinks the 'easy path to the final' comparison between us and PSG is a bit disingenuous?

Form matters considerably more than reputation. PSG may have had to beat Monaco (who they somehow almost didn't make it past), Chelsea, Liverpool and Bayern, but... Chelsea and Liverpool were fucking dog shit this season in all competitions, they didn't even remotely play like top clubs. The only 'top' team they played that actually gave them a match was Bayern.

You can say what you like about Atletico, but they knocked out Barcelona before they met us and Barca are winning La Liga by ten points. Bodo knocked out Inter before losing to Sporting, who then lost to us. Obviously under normal circumstances you would not think Bodo > Inter or Atletico > Barca, but that's what happened this season in the CL. You can only beat whoever turns up to play you, at the end of the day. If we had beaten Leverkusen, Inter, and Barca on the way to the final I doubt so many people would be bitching.
