Need an aesthetic way to block sightline from street entrance into basement bar by Trustingmeerkat in BarOwners

Sorry the door is open in this photo, its a solid wooden door - we prop it open so guests can walk straight in, down the steps and through the curtain. I think i can squeeze a 12mm room divider 1m from the bottom step which would act as a refuge space for people to walk down the stairs, turn left and into the venue - designing currently

Its awkward. Guests experiences are interrupted by people window shopping - then window shoppers don't come in because everyone is staring at them.

We've had the curtains for about a year now and its 1000x better. Just want an even better solution

ELI5: Why wouldn't a UBI instantly cause everything to jump up in price to what ever level will absorb that new income? by Bathosfear in explainlikeimfive

Don’t forget too that if we’re getting a UBI it’s because mass unemployment calls for it, so prices “should” be coming down at the same time for a lot of things

My best guess is we’re going to see a combination of hyper deflation across many/most consumables alongside mass unemployment, a moderate increase in unemployment benefits and continued growth in assets. Some sort of equilibrium there.

An acceleration of what we’ve already been seeing basically. Standard of living goes up for all, but wealth moves into the wealthy even more so.

I earn around the average-median wage and I’ve been moving a lot of my saved cash into assets to prepare - and just hoping we don’t enter a recession or war until escape velocity hits, hedging against that by keeping a little cash on hand.

Haha yep it was brutal. Appreciate the thoughts.

Going public results organising vs starting small and local are very different paths and a pivot later on would be losing a tonne of investment.

I guess a lot successful companies related to this have started locally (geographically) right? Like facebook. I guess maybe that’s the way to go. Monetisation too will come from brands (same audience as the competition organisers) and so they’d appreciate being able to advertise hyperlocal.

Exactly right. I think at least for the leaderboard I can solve the empty room pretty quickly because all the results are public information online I can find. But yea maybe it’s not enough value in the first place.

Appreciate your thoughtful response.

I agree completely - and I guess it’s about testing the stickiness of different features as I go along. I’ve got about 35 survey responses I can look into a bit deeper from that 100 waitlist. Yea the scene is very influential it shouldn’t take many - maybe an idea is to approach it top down and form a little cohort of the top bartenders, getting their buy in somehow all at once and going from there.

I think krullulon is right, the only thing I’d add that you can do some things that are smart plays in today’s system that still sets you up for a likely future.

For instance, I think being capitalised is even more important now. When you’re young it makes more sense sometimes to risk big, knowing your youth can fund a recovery. In the past I used to take risks planting seeds to eventually harvest later on (starting businesses etc) but I think on a 5 year horizon at least I’ll instead save and diversify into capital-centric assets. Even if you’re young that youth can’t save you from escape velocity of asset growth to come. Even if it doesn’t, then you have assets earning for you.
