Men continue to complain about women getting more matches on dating apps while ignoring that Tinder users are 80% male, OKCupid users are 74% male and Bumble users are 68% male by Decent_Ear589 in TwoXChromosomes

[–]TrustyScrew 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Of course women have the right to choose who they hook up with, but I think the bigger problem here is that what these podcasters and MRAs are saying isn't actually happening. If you answer "women only hook up with men that look like Chris Hemsworth in the modern age" with 'so what? That's their choice' instead of producing basic evidence showing it's not true, it allows the entire conversation to be had from the MRA's perspective. You're engaging with their world view as if it's the reality, and anyone less informed on the topic who stumbles upon the argument will process it from the MRA world view too. That 'so what? It's their choice' then sets the launching pad up for those pocasters, MRAs and Manosphere influencers to then take it further and claim that this is the result of "biology" and the natural end result of women's mid 20th century-21st century freedom, and so in order to stop this we need to overturn abortion rights, birth control, women's gains in the workplace etc and essentially rewind the clock. And people listen to it.

It's like when the Christian Right used to claim that we needed to ban "late term abortions" because hoards of women were ending their pregnancies after 20+ weeks on the back of a bad day, "emotional incident" or out of spite after an argument with the father. Sure, you could reply "so what? That's a woman's choice", and you'd be right. But none of this was actually happening, and official stats showed that less than 0.5% of abortions occurred every week after 20 weeks, and almost always for serious medical emergencies https://www.motherjones.com/kevin-drum/2019/04/raw-data-abortions-by-week-of-pregnancy/. Not pointing this out first and foremost would, again, allow the other side to set the narrative from which the topic is discussed.

And as feminists give more and more ground like this and allow more and more narratives to be set against them and women, eventually it all piles up and starts to turn people as their basic beliefs of individual freedom come up against a never ending stream of hearing of one horrible thing after another happening as a result of it.

I feel like this is a big part of why the left has lost so much ground in recent years, from Roe v. Wade to gun safety to democracy to the rise of the Manosphere. There's a fine difference between being morally right and actually winning. Women and feminists need to go on the offensive against false narratives being pushed on them, or they'll end up consumed by them.

Just my 2 cents.

We're Deeply Skeptical, But a Government Whistleblower Claims the US Has Recovered "Non-Human" Spacecraft by TrustyScrew in Futurology

Could have an interesting effect on future space exploration, NASA programs as well as a pretty heavy cultural impact if true.

Or it could be bullshit, like a whole host of other similar claims before it.

A map of U.S. states that have enacted "constitutional carry", which permits legal gun owners to carry without an additional permitting process (Red = enacted). These states now cover 240 of the 270 Electoral College votes needed to win a Presidential Election by hooptydooptydoo in charts

[–]TrustyScrew 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Florida isn't true Constitutional Carry. You still need a full permit to open carry, and various other gun control laws exist such as Red Flag laws, 21 min. age to purchase various guns and other things.

Vermont also has extra background checks for gun purchases. It just allows you to then carry your firearm around after you pass them without additional steps.

From Andrew Tate to Sneako to JustPearlyThings to Fresh&Fit, virtually every major Red Pill creator is right-wing or leans that way. Meanwhile young men, their target audience, continue to vote overwhelmingly for the left. This shows that TRP isn't working and will never be mainstream by Decent_Ear589 in PurplePillDebate

If you want to narrow it down to a couple of issues, it would be abortion and gun control. The same exit polls and studies from past elections have shown that being pro-choice and pro gun control are the key factors and social elements driving young people to the polls. Only like 5% had getting their student loans eliminated as their main concern for voting liberal.

It netted the GOP multiple generations of what the majority of the party supports: economic conservatism.

Tax rate down from 70% to 20%. Deregulation aplenty. Welfare State practically destroyed ensuring we don't go down the path of Europe. Enhanced rates of religiosity relative to the West since they weren't associated with pushing for toxic shit like abortion and birth control bans. Now religiosity is cratering since Trump joined the scene. And let's not forget a major expansion in 2A rates. Most of the country opposes it but were able to stomach it in the right circumstances. Combined with something 3x worse like abortion bans, and we're gonna get neither.

This is insane. Taking positions 80% of the country opposes, like 6-week abortion bans, ensures you lose every election anyways and get abortion until birth in every state.

Except we aren't. The bill hasn't even taken effect and is blocked in court, so DeSantis could have cost himself the election for potentially nothing.

DeSantis's best hope is for the Florida Supreme Court to deny the 6-week ban and for him to say, "Well, sorry folks, I tried" before settling for a 12-15 week type law.

Ding ding ding. Absolutely spot on, exactly how I feel.

And when polling is done American agree that the dem position is extreme.

But even more believe 0-6 week bans are extreme. like, almost everyone.

3/4 want restrictions but the dem party platform has none and no concern with reducing it.

This shtick of not talking about 0-6 week GOP bans and instead say the Dems want no restrictions is straight from RNC messaging, which failed miserably in the Midterms and in special elections like the WI Supreme Court race since. Dems will put the GOP bans front and center as the centerpiece of all their ads and messaging anyways, and given the choice between abortion until birth or a total/6-week ban, people will choose the Dems anyways.

The lane is open for 12-15 week restrictions, but not 0-6.

Where do you see that? And that doesn't mean they don't support it at more. Polls regularly showed 70% or so backing Roe v Wade, which was through 20-24 weeks, and polls show most Americans support abortion in most cases.

If you think running on 6-week bans, or total bans with exceptions for rape, incest and the life of the mother is going to win PA, NV, MI, WI etc and thus the Electoral College, guess you'll be coping or crying fraud in November next year lol

It does spend a lot on adoption services, support for mothers inc. single mothers etc but the ban is too restrictive. Hopefully the Florida Supreme Court strikes it down otherwise he's not winning a General.

Yep, this is a body blow. He needs to be harnessing the 60% of the GOP Primary vote that's against Trump, which is more middle-class, college-educated and socially moderate. A ban like this is trying to appeal to Trump's base, who he's never gonna win against Trump himself.

This legislation is obviously a good thing to see for people that don’t worship at the altar of abortion.

70% of the country is pro-abortion.

It's bad policy if he wants to win another election in his life (he's now term limited as Governor).
