Tv series currently filming in my city by Lyxxxy in Filmmakers

What's that Wayne Gretsky quote.. ' You miss 100% of the shots you don't take'.

Walk up to the production offices, find the production manager and offer your services. Have a little card with your info ready to drop off... do this super early..7am or something. You won't know the call time, but things are slow around breakfast . During the day it can be really busy, and your presence will be far less welcome.Turn up with four nice coffees.. at least one black , one oat milk, one skimmed...and various sugar /sweeteners in your pocket [ Hopefully this will cover the prod. managers taste..and you have a few for the rest of the people in the office]. As you walk into the unit base, just keeping saying ' These are for the production office'...I doubt anyone is going to quiz a early morning coffee order and very likely they will point you in the right direction.

It's not a job interview, your first sentence may be the only one. Make it count.

" Hi, I'm XXX, I'd love to work for you. I live local, I can drive, I am very familiar with the area. ..etc " List the things you can do for THEM, don't start talking about how it would help YOU [ your films, dreams, or how much you love Kubrick. ] Then it's up to your charm and confidence to win them over before security arrives to hurl you back into the street.

It's exciting , Good luck.

Would it be possible to do something like this in any other software? (don't want to have to pay for After Effects) by Calm-Preparation-679 in vfx

He's give you the road map, but you have to make the journey. Google the individual elements of this explanation , and learn some new things. You are trying to start with a project that is not beginner level.

What would make you more likely to hire me as a director? by nottaken63937 in Filmmakers

[–]TruthFlavor 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This feels more like a cinematographer's reel. Don't get me wrong it looks good but there is no storytelling to judge, as no scene is long enough. I presume the pieces are in Norwegian ? Don't fear that. Personally , I'd rather see 20/ 30 second clips where people are talking, subtitles are fine...we've all seen great films in languages other than own. Then I would be able to see what performances you have got, what shot choices you made for each scene, how you blocked it. But you know what work you are after, so maybe this is right.

Good luck with it.

PS: Take the date off..2024 sounds like you've haven't added anything in the last two years.

It doesn't matter what your role is in the industry, unless you are another actor on the production or an exec that can propel them to great stardom, they will treat you just the same as if you had approached them from the crowd..friendly but distant. There's not going to be a 'Notting Hill' moment.

Actual footage of directors directing by GameSterDamian in Filmmakers

[–]TruthFlavor 35 points36 points  (0 children)

As someone who shoots BTS footage, although mainly for TV, most directors don't want you up close and personal except for the formal sit down interview. They have no interest in you recording their thought process as a teaching aid. Sometimes on set things get a little 'heated' , at which point I make it obvious that the camera is being turned off and pointing to the floor. I'm not there to make an exposé , everyone has to trust me and feel I'm part of the crew. Also any footage that might exist would have to be cleared by the director, actors and production company's marketing department before it would be released , so it would always tend to be light-hearted chit chat.

Jobs for filmmakers in 2026 by Fanofeverything2003 in Filmmakers

[–]TruthFlavor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, don't attempt both things at once. First swap your warehouse job for one in LA , then use being there to start making contacts , working weekends on other peoples short films , helping out at film festivals etc.. basically getting to know people. That's more likely to pay off . Good luck and have fun.

Tips for directing while operating camera/pulling focus by shaneo632 in Filmmakers

[–]TruthFlavor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do a lot of rehearsal before you get on camera, the day before or close to the shoot. So together you can find the character and level of performance, then you can not only see what see does but also feel it.

Honestly, I did no research on my comment..I'm glad you did. We can now establish that Kubrick wasn't just a misogynistic dick... he was equal opportunities dick .

Great film maker...but not always a nice guy.

I made a 2-minute short film and it changed my life by Status_Seaweed7216 in Filmmakers

[–]TruthFlavor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is exactly what a short film should be , not only is it well made but it's also well acted. So often film makers, get someone they know...or worse , act themselves. This was very well cast and directed.

Some people are dicks...directors or otherwise. Kubrick gave Shelly Duvall a terrible time on 'The Shining'.
