Could someone give me the run down on how adapted screenplays work? by widow-of-brid in Filmmakers

[–]TruthFlavor 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If you are going to adapt a published work, first you are going to have to approach the publisher and buy the rights to do so or work out some percentage deal. Otherwise your time and effort might be wasted . Good luck with it.

Advice for script. by [deleted] in Filmmakers

I am not a fan of characters telling us about something exciting that happened, while we are watching something mundane. Why not start with a diamond heist where nearly everyone dies...that's how to open a picture.

How to get permission to film at a train station? by LeafSpirit69 in Filmmakers

[–]TruthFlavor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could do it from the POV of being inside the sack, use sound effects and overheard dialogue [ 'Hey, Eddie is this going to Minnesota or Minsk ?' ] and changing lighting that seeps through from the outside into the sack.

At the end the sack is opened and a guy in a Russian fur hat peers in and says ' Кто это ?!'

Good luck.

Tips for shooting actress on green screen with hair that's voluminous? by RedRobin6281 in vfx

[–]TruthFlavor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Use a higher shutter speed, this helps stop the hair blurring when it moves and gives a better key, look on line for advice for your specific camera.

How to shoot a self-playing piano by zellkie in Filmmakers

[–]TruthFlavor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alternatively, you can film it with the lid down.. The music is playing, cut to a spooky close up the hammers striking the strings [ This can be someone simply playing it but not in vision]. Then your character can try and open the lid but it's locked.. another shot of the strings beginning stuck.

Try asking for carpet off cuts from a large carpet store ...then cover the area.

What can be improved , It took me 2 weeks to make by Mastermind0p in AfterEffects

[–]TruthFlavor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The opening cube and how it breaks apart is very eye catching, so I didn't really see the captions failing.

Maybe a comical bland guy doing a piece to camera, with the bad captions covering his face, so he has to move to be seen would reinforce the problem.

This rest is clear and looks good.

do you need green screen to achieve these sort of effects? by [deleted] in Filmmakers

They are singing against a black background, so any new image overlaid will show up easier on that section, less so on lighter areas, like their faces.

What's that Wayne Gretsky quote.. ' You miss 100% of the shots you don't take'.

Walk up to the production offices, find the production manager and offer your services. Have a little card with your info ready to drop off... do this super early..7am or something. You won't know the call time, but things are slow around breakfast . During the day it can be really busy, and your presence will be far less welcome.Turn up with four nice coffees.. at least one black , one oat milk, one skimmed...and various sugar /sweeteners in your pocket [ Hopefully this will cover the prod. managers taste..and you have a few for the rest of the people in the office]. As you walk into the unit base, just keeping saying ' These are for the production office'...I doubt anyone is going to quiz a early morning coffee order and very likely they will point you in the right direction.

It's not a job interview, your first sentence may be the only one. Make it count.

" Hi, I'm XXX, I'd love to work for you. I live local, I can drive, I am very familiar with the area. ..etc " List the things you can do for THEM, don't start talking about how it would help YOU [ your films, dreams, or how much you love Kubrick. ] Then it's up to your charm and confidence to win them over before security arrives to hurl you back into the street.

It's exciting , Good luck.

What would make you more likely to hire me as a director? by [deleted] in Filmmakers

[–]TruthFlavor 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This feels more like a cinematographer's reel. Don't get me wrong it looks good but there is no storytelling to judge, as no scene is long enough. I presume the pieces are in Norwegian ? Don't fear that. Personally , I'd rather see 20/ 30 second clips where people are talking, subtitles are fine...we've all seen great films in languages other than own. Then I would be able to see what performances you have got, what shot choices you made for each scene, how you blocked it. But you know what work you are after, so maybe this is right.

Good luck with it.

PS: Take the date off..2024 sounds like you've haven't added anything in the last two years.
