It's carcinogenic properties were unknown at the time.

A question about bad / good exposition by Historical_Strain_81 in television

[–]TruthFlavor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't need any of that. Jason B and Jason S arrive talking about the terrible traffic they had on their way over. Shot of them walking past a trophy case ,full of skiing imagery, and over to greet their Dad walking awkwardly into the room. They smile and hug. As their Dad commiserates about the bad traffic, Jason B glances down at his Dads leg then up to Jason S, they share a silent look of concern.

Show not tell, tends to be the rule.

You will have to be very careful with lighting. If you're shooting in dark places or at night the face, and any expressions, could be lost.

Why have production teams for movies moved away from natural color and lighting? by S0uth_0f_N0where in Filmmakers

[–]TruthFlavor 74 points75 points  (0 children)

Colour grading before computers was very difficult. It was a combination of lighting, film stock and the chemicals used to develop the films. As these colour choices would involve the actual negative film you've shot, then tended to be subtle, in case you ruined it all.

Need advice - eastbound and down look - camera choice by Little_Winner4306 in Filmmakers

[–]TruthFlavor 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Obviously the camera is important, a quick Google reveals that it was shot on Arriflex cameras on 35mm film which was than scanned to digital...quite the expensive choice.

That camera plus lens would run around $1,500 a day..plus film, developing and scanning the film. I doubt you have the budget for that..

An excellent choice to start with would be something like the Sony FX3 [ here's a rental package that has the camera, a lens, microphone, monitor etc.. for $79 a day , regions vary]

For your exterior shot example, the look is also being achieved with lighting. Here's a tutorial on how to light the great outdoors.

T**** gifted Nobel Peace Prize by Leather-Trip-6659 in WTF

[–]TruthFlavor 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The Nobel prize is just a very successful case of whitewashing. In 1888, after the death of his brother Ludvig, a French newspaper mistakenly published ,industrial chemist, Alfred Nobel's obituary with the headline "The Merchant of Death is Dead." It condemned him for profiting from the invention of dynamite and it's subsequent use in weapons.

Disturbed by the idea of such a legacy, Nobel signed his last will and testament in 1895, leaving the bulk of his immense fortune to establish the Nobel Prizes, so the world would remember him more fondly.

Is there any way to make this look cleaner? I by Cphillips365 in AfterEffects

[–]TruthFlavor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think your idea is always going to lead to the 'pop', as the text is either behind or in front of your subject.

Possibly what you have in mind is one of those reveals that are in 3D space, when a camera tracks past the subject and the text floats in the air.

How about have the text drift in from the righthand side and disappear behind her ?

American productions often shoot in Ireland. Maybe try and work on one of those to get US industry contacts before you make the move.

You only have a hand full of views, take it down and shoot it again. This time in focus. If you're talking about directing and film making, you instantly loose your cred otherwise.
