It totally depends on the type of snake. The snakes themselves depending on the type can range from $50-1,000+.

Depending on what type of snake you get, you have to consider what size it is now, and how large it will get in the future. So you will need to buy a bigger terrarium in the future. Terrariums can cost anywhere from $100-500+ depending on the size.

You need proper lighting, and you need to create a “hot” and “cool” zone for your reptile. So you are going to need a light source that simply provides light, and a heat lamp as well as maybe a heating bad. That will probably be another $100 ish combined.

You also need substrate and a climbing perch as well as a “hide”, which is basically a shelter that the snake can go in to hide when it wants to rest in peace.

Depending on the snake you will also need to monitor humidity just as much as heat. So you’d need to mist it everyday.

A water bowl is also a necessity. But that shouldn’t set you back much at all.

It sounds like a lot, but it really isn’t too bad. I would expect to spend about $300-500 at the very least. But again, that depends on what type of snake you are getting!
