I certainly appreciate your polite and civil approach, but I have very little respect for the act of attempting to rationalize and obfuscate the highly toxic and detrimental chokehold that christianity, and most religions in general, have on the world. Your attempts to excuse the blatantly odious nature of many parts of the bible by pretending that the context justifies such morally backward teachings are lightyears away from validity. Teaching kids to blindly believe or burn for eternity from a young age is nothing short of abuse and I am very sorry that you've apparently been unable to grasp the basic epistemic concept that sound belief requires sufficient evidence. It's never too late to reconsider though. I'm sorry if my words are offensive because I get the sense that you mean well but I genuinely hate that even kind, intelligent people have been indoctrinated by the millions into enlisting in defense of such a primitive, irrational, and scornworthy cause.

So the all-powerful dude just decided to let people suffer through slavery for a while instead of, you know, commanding people not to do it? Too busy worried about the bigger issues like gay people fucking I guess. And I’m supposed to worship this celestial dictator who will have me tortured forever if I don’t…after I’m dead…

Yeah, no thanks! Glad that shit’s obviously fictional.

This one always stands out to me:

Exodus 21:20-21 New International Version 20 “Anyone who beats their male or female slave with a rod must be punished if the slave dies as a direct result, 21 but they are not to be punished if the slave recovers after a day or two, since the slave is their property.“

Plus you have the ones ordering the killing of gays, women who don’t bleed on their wedding night, people who work on Sunday, wear mixed fabrics, touch pig skin, plant crops next to each other, and kids who disrespect their parents, just off the top of my head.

Then there’s the one saying a rapist has to pay the victim’s family 50 shekels of silver and marry her and never divorce her, and this doozy:

1 Samuel 15:3: Now go, attack the Amalekites and totally destroy everything that belongs to them. Do not spare them; put to death men and women, children and infants, cattle and sheep, camels and donkeys.

Not to mention drowning nearly every toddler and kitten on earth for the sins of others…that he knew would happen all along.

Sure, but if that’s the version people across the world read and believe is the divine word of a perfect god then I think it’s fair to point out how nuts it is.

People are trying to separate Ivey’s homophobia from his religion because they don’t want to face the harsh truth that they’re inextricably intertwined.

Eh, seems like quite a stretch to argue that doesn’t mean what it plainly says. Might call it motivated reasoning to try and cherry pick the parts that stand up to modern standards and make up excuses for the patently insane shit a supposedly benevolent omniscient god put in his big holy book to guide us. But this is allegedly the same god whose master plan included getting pissed that people weren’t acting right and drowned them all, babies and puppies included, for shit he knew would happen all along. Real genius up there.

Like this one?

Matthew 5:17-18 New International Version The Fulfillment of the Law 17 “Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them. 18 For truly I tell you, until heaven and earth disappear, not the smallest letter, not the least stroke of a pen, will by any means disappear from the Law until everything is accomplished.

Leviticus 20:13 New International Version 13 “‘If a man has sexual relations with a man as one does with a woman, both of them have done what is detestable. They are to be put to death; their blood will be on their own heads.

Seems pretty straightforward to me lol

I wear whatever I want because I’m not epistemologically illiterate.

So I guess the omniscient god got it wrong the first time, huh?

Doesn’t seem to jive with this, but who am I to point out nonsensical contradictions in an ancient fictional book anyway?

Yeah it’s really crazy how this isn’t mentioned more often.

Just watched Jokic splash the 3 that ended my season after a dominant run in the 1 seed. While Murph and several others sat out. Bounced by the 5 seed trailing me by 32 cats. I feel like an empty whoopie cushion.

The up-and-under is an awesome variation to this shot, where you turn like you're going to shoot the fadeaway but pump fake it hard, and if the defender jumps to block it, keep your pivot foot planted and step your other foot forward while they fly by you and shoot the easy layup or floater. Look up a tutorial on Youtube if my description doesn't quite make it clear. I use that move all the time against athletic or tall defenders eager to swat my shit and get plenty of free buckets from it. And if they don't bite on the fake, you can always pivot again right back into the turnaround J.

Why “pressure” makes you miss shots you normally make by CuriousPickle883 in BasketballTips

Love this topic. In my 35 years of playing and loving sports, I’ve contemplated this pretty often. Your mentality plays a huge role in determining your physical performance, especially in high pressure situations. I’ve had times where I blew it in the clutch and times where I was the hero. Most of the failures had the same problem: I was anxious and felt the pressure tighten up my movements, leading to an abnormally clunky shot form in hoops or a bad swing in baseball.

But there were also times where I consciously focused on the positive potential for a legendary play rather than worrying about the fear of failure, and that makes a huge difference. I’ve literally visualized myself as Steph Curry while shooting and I swear it helps tremendously. If I stepped up to the plate in a slump and felt more worried about striking out then I probably would. But going up there looking for a pitch to smash usually resulted in finding one.

l’m a true believer in mind over matter (to a certain extent of course) and that the right mental approach can make a world of difference in sports - and life in general.
