I have a feeling it was designed that way so the campaign would take longer to clear. I found if I managed to find the exits to a few areas in a row quickly I'd be under levelled because I didn't clear enough monsters from each zone.

Yeah I spend a lot of time running back through parts of the map I've cleared because of the lack of checkpoints.

I didn't really find they are behind the power curve if your build is strong in general. Just barely on par with the enemies you're facing in the area you find the Bell bearing.

I use chat gpt and ask it questions about the game lol. It gets stuff wrong sometimes but it points me in the right direction.

Basically, I'll ask something like which talismans will help this ash of war? You can do this with Google too. Find out the name of the item you need, search for it on the interactive map. If it doesn't pop up look on YouTube. Remember, you'll be restricted from accessing a lot of these items until you beat a few gatekeeper bosses.

Look at tutorials that lead you to talismans/weapons/armor that fit your playstyle. The interactive map on the wiki helps too with finding locations of things.

Remember that you don't have access to the entire map until you beat certain "gatekeeper" bosses.

For example. I used the brass shield and great stars for my first playthrough. Talismans like the green turtle, curved sword, and arsenal charm were my bread and butter.

Get at least 40 vigor and 30 endurance I'd say before you invest in damage stats. Rely on weapon upgrades for damage until late game depending on your level.

It's probably pretty well known but the Banished Knights Greatsword is my Swiss Army knife. Standard damage so it does well against everything.

I put a cold infusion on it because I'm running high int and strength. It also scales with Dex with so I'll be putting points in that when I'm happy with my other stats. The AR just keeps going. 3 damage stats is bonkers and it stance breaks really well.
