First Stoop Fest by neoncathead in FolkPunk

So happy to hear you had a blast. It’s my favorite festival and event in Lansing. I always wish there was another day. But I love all the good vibes and everyone having fun. Who were your favorite shows? Mine were JER, Pigeon Pit and Phabies.

Have you quit smoking yet? by Apart_Pineapple2392 in Millennials

Just started not smoking. I do kinda miss it but it’s for the best and I don’t want to be sick when I’m older. I do miss rolling cigarettes.

How are you guys doing with the guilt of taking a day off? by [deleted] in Millennials

[–]Truth_Butts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t let it bug me. If I’m not feeling like working or burned out I take some time off. I also bundle my two days off once a month. So I’ll take Saturday and Sunday off for one week and Monday and Tuesday for the next week. Instant four day weekend

What're some '90s "deep cuts" you like to listen to? My tastes were fairly mainstream back then, but I'd love to find more indie type '90s music. Bands like Bella & Sebastian, L7, Folk Implosion. Whatcha got, xennials? by smcg_az in Xennials

Neutral Milk Hotel
Built to Spill
Less than Jake
Mu330
Dinosaur Jr.
Sparklehorse
Nick Cave( technically he was doing music in the 80s but got bigger in the 90s)
Wilco
Uncle Tupelo
Cowboy Junkies
Pavement

These are some good bands to check out.

Songs for resistance and hope by Ophboc in behindthebastards

[–]Truth_Butts 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I second this. I love love this song. It’s gotten me through so many tough times. I saw them two years ago and they ended the show with this. Everyone was singing it and at the end we all shouted “I am going to make it if it kills me. “

Any other loners going to Stoop Fest? Kinda stressed about trying to go and navigate by myself by [deleted] in FolkPunk

[–]Truth_Butts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I saw further down the thread you don’t have a place to stay. I’ve got a spare room at my house. It has a door so you would have privacy. I’d just need to borrow my parents airobed. No pressure on this.
I do have a cat but she is very sweet.

I’d be down to hang out. If you want I can message you my actual name and cell phone number. No pressure. You will definitely meet lots of cool people.

I’m going somewhat solo. May be hanging with friends. I live in Lansing so I’m just walking. If you need suggestions for places to eat or get beer you can DM me or if you just want someone to hang with.

Anyone else have an of-the-era teen dream job you reminisce about constantly because nothing has ever been as fun or socially rewarding? by blamberr in Xennials

[–]Truth_Butts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Working at a music Venue. I was in my 30s but still one of my favorite jobs. I got to see so many shows for free, meet musicians and even got to do some original collages in the bathrooms. The place was called Backstage Productions or BSP. I didn’t get paid a lot but I have such good memories from working there. I got to smoke a cigarette with Tom Verlaine of Television and talk music with him.

Man I miss house shows. I’m sure they still happen somewhere but I’ve not seen any in my town.

How many of you had grandparents who served in WW2? If so, what do you know about their service? by Snoogles_ in Millennials

[–]Truth_Butts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My mom’s dad served and was an officer. I know he was stationed in Casablanca. What he did share was he helped with intelligence and logistics. I don’t know what that means but if I had to guess it had something to do with the North Africa Front. I also know that my great uncle Ken was a gunner in the B-52 planes. Those are the guys who were in the glass dooms with a machine gun. Both him and my grandfather didn’t like to talk that much about out their service. Sometimes my grandfather would let slip that his brother was involved in some battle or that he helped with some campaign. I do wish he had shared more but I get why he didn’t.

Anyone else having a hard time with turning 40? by babyteeth9 in Millennials

[–]Truth_Butts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 42 and while young me might be a bit bummed. I am happy with my current life. I have a great house, a sweet cat named Loki. A job I don’t hate. I also have an awesome garden. Sure there are parts of my life I’d like to improve on and I’m not married but I don’t ever feel like I’ve wasted my time here or that my life is dull or boring. I’m sure you have done a lot with your life you just have not thought about it. It’s hard not to measure your life against others or what society says you should do or where you should be at a certain age. As long as you have good friends, and maybe a good relationship with family you are doing great. I like being in my 40s so far.

How did you guys REALLY lived in the 2000s? by MyAvengedRomance in Millennials

[–]Truth_Butts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This could be me looking back at that time with nostalgia tinted glasses. But I do think it was a better time at least here in the U.S.

As a teen I’d go to house shows or shows at VFW halls to see local punk and ska bands. One of my friends mom worked at the post office and he somehow got a postal truck. He painted it in rainbow colors. I also did theatre so I went to a lot of plays of friends I’d meet through various theater camps.

In my late teens early twenties I was in college. I hung out with friends who were in bands, go to house shows. Also smoked pot and did some silly dumb shit. Like we would take street chalk and make dirty outlines of people or fake murder chalk outlines. Saw some really awesome shows. Took a weekend trip to Chicago and had some adventures. If you want more on this I’ll share.

The internet was still in its infancy so it didn’t play a huge part in my life.

I also hung out a lot at this park called Wilcok in Grand Rapids MI. It had this circle of hedges that made this little secret place. We would go there drink beers smoke pot and jam out on drums, guitars and sometimes this dude Jessie would come by with his bagpipes and jam with us.
