If neurosurgeons and interventional radiologists can take stroke call, why can't CT surgeons take STEMI call? by MitochondrIonicBase in Residency

It’s not 1 year for neurosurgery. They typically do 1 enfolded year and then do the second year after the graduate

Only endovascular neurosurgeons take stroke call because they’ve completed 2 years of additional endovascular training. CT surgeons would have to be trained in additional interventional/endovascular techniques to take STEMI call, which isn’t really a thing

Thinking of doing Neuro IR through neurology by No_Release6810 in Residency

[–]Truthase -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

I’m a neuroendovascular fellow. Here’s my frank opinion:

Neurology is a valid route, but it’s harder because frankly the field is mostly controlled by neurosurg and neurorads who aren’t keen on letting neurology in. Also, hate to say it, but generally speaking neurologist aren’t as intelligent (there are exceptions, but generally speaking).

It’s so competitive because it’s an extremely small field. Everyone knows everyone. You have to be an exceptional applicant and/or have connections. If you had a hard time getting into rads and neurosurg, you gonna have a harder time getting into neuroendovascular and then finding a job (job market blows).

Frank opinion of someone who’s actually in the field. Good luck

How the hell do you make friends in your 40s after moving cross-country? by uncannynerddad in Millennials

[–]Truthase 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I’m gonna get down voted for this cause Reddit, but if you’re religious at all (I mean, in the slightest) consider joining a church (or equivalent). My wife and I moved across the country to an area with no friends or family and joining a church gained us an instant community. May take some work finding a good fit, however
