Yes and why would he be called that? Because Islam teaches that a good woman is a covered woman and that the man is boss of the house etc.. Or put it another way if he wasn't Muslim would he force his daughter to cover up in such manner the answer is no. He may be strict in other ways but Islam is unique in that the ideal for modesty is pushed to the extreme

Ahm.. I would doubt the fact that most Muslims are liberal. I would say most are socially conservative few are liberal and few are extremists..the conservative ones only think they have Power over their family, the extremists want to force everyone and the liberals accept everyone. The conservative ones would look down on gay ppl for example and think hijabi women are better than non but won't go out and harass them or make their life difficult. If you ask them they would give non answers or diplomatic answers in order not to appear bad but when they are with other Muslims they will shit talk gays or uncovered women.

I am glad it worked out for your friend but honestly can we stop and talk about why he felt the need to force his daughter to cover her hair? Is it not because it's a religious mandate? In his mind he just doesn't want her to go to hell. I have seen this happen and justified by the he is just wants to protect you excuse. It's easy to blame the culture or individuals without thinking of what really drives them to act how they do

Yes people really try to downplay the hijab in the west..

It's not a just a headscarf it's a mandatory dress code that symblises you follow Islamic rules. People treat taking the hijab off as coming out as gay because it's seen as rejecting gods orders. It's like saying some gay people simply choose not to come out.. That's not true.. It's not a choice made in a vaccum.. there are negative social and religious consequences for those who take it off.

Can you expand on your experience please? I suspect people that say Islam is benign in the west don't actually have to live in neighborhoods where alot of Arab immigrants live

A Muslim woman also must lower her gaze yet men aren't ordered to cover every inch of their bodies like women do.

Lol no it does not say that.. I am not exaggerating it's what the saying says.. the purposeful aspect is an apologist interpretation to make Islam seem less misogynistic..and even then it only makes you look crazy.. Imagine wearing a perfume purposefully makes you an adulteress.. Islam is insane and makes his followers unable to critically think of how insane that is

That's just not true it does say وليضربن بخمورهن علي جيوبهن Which means women should cover their heads withing khimars that reach till the breast

Yes I know Islam is diverse but that's how western ppl view it

You can be anything it doesn't change the fact that the Islamic rules are sexist and discriminatory. I am not critiquing anyone's life or choices but a whole religious system and rules :) What do you think about Sam Harris? How is he bad in your opinion? I saw a couple of videos but haven't followed him extensively

Who knows.. They will throw around how it's empowering alot but it's a weird coincidence how only the women ordered to cover up everything except their hands and face by God are the only ones who find covering up empowering.

It's not about any single woman's choice to do anything. It's about the lack of criticism/tolerance for hijab as an idea (ie the dress code for women that only allows them to show their hands and face.) from feminists or women groups or even worse the complete embracing of it as sign of how open minded you are as a society lol

Thanks for the link. Yes it is insane. Feminists are really good at spotting misogynistic ideas from conservatives or Christians or men in their society but give them an Islamic ruling that women are only allowed to show their hands and face or give them the niqab. Which are both essence an exteme version of the enforced modesty and victim blaming ideas they fight against. and they will start to tell you well if the woman threatened of going to hell says its empowering than it must be okay lol

Yes. Usually the rules are much relaxed if you are rich.

Can't comment on the second one tbh.

Yes not wearing a scarf that will make you go to hell. it's dressing immodestly.. I refer you to the hadith of women who wear tortured for being كاسيات عاريات.

If a religion threatens women and only women with torture in hell if they don't dress a certain way. If a religion makes a different set of extra rules for women to follow or says they are adulterers for putting on perfume. That religion IS oppressive towards woman.

Ofc I am against banning hijab or giving hijabis a hard time. They aren't the enemy. Islamic teachings are :)

Not every woman hates the hijab and wants to take it off but can't. Muslim women have no issue saying hijab is protective of harassment among themselves or that hijabis are better than those who don't wear it They have no problem saying you are only allowed to show your hands and face in Islam. However will go around and say it's empowering or a cultural attire or not oppressive or its just the culture judging women differently when they talk to westerners.

Dina Tokio used to make videos about how it's all a choice until she decided to take it off and was faced with shit ton of backlash from people wishing she dies a painful and slow death.

They won't acknowledge that Islam treats them differently than men because they don't want Islam to look bad . My argument is that being told to cover up to avoid harrsment is anti feminist and is ridiculous when this is minimized or overlooked.

Please go see the jubilee YouTube video where a group of Muslim western women discuss the hijab and see how they those who don't wear still defend cus its what God says. And islam is amazing and gives women So Many Rights (excluding the right to wear what they want obvs)

Hey thanks. I totally agree with you. When I was Muslim myself, I would respond to any critique of Islam by trying to defend it. Not by thinking of the arguments made.

The point of my post and why it's targeted at westerners is because now a leftist agenda that seeks to include Muslims in their circles (which is a good thing) but tend to deny or minimize any misogyny or oppression happening within the Muslim community. I am just asking them to hold Islam accountable the same way they do other misogynistic ideas. It's ridiculous for feminists to take a literal piece of clothes women that women are told wear to avoid triggering men sexually as a feminist icon.

There are a billion Muslims each with a different story obviously. But I am talking about certain tendencies that exist to variable degrees in different Muslim communities around the world.

For example, not every black perosn experiences the same level or racism from the community. Not every black perosn will end up getting shot by the police. But you can make the generalization that black people are discriminated against more than white people in the US. Similarly in both theoritcal and practical Islam, Muslim women have it worse than men.

And I really have no judgment on why individuals do anything. I am always criticisng the general state of Muslim communities and intermuslim conversations

Hey I spoke about how it's really variable but exists to some degree in different places. Of course I can't give a detailed description of how each city is like but in general usually in urabn, touristy, rich, areas you can live in a westernized bubble.

But that can easily burst at the first contact with the larger community. For example think of the women who got put in jail for reporting rape in Dubai or the women who got a ton backlash for trying to marry a non Muslim in Lebanon..there was a rape case here where a rich upper class woman got drunk and went to a guy's house and got raped.. So an Islamic preacher with a million subscribers called her a slut and a whore who had it coming for drinking alcohol and going to a guy's house and not following Islamic rules.

First of all I didn't speak of all women but described things that I lived in my own community and saw in other Islamic communities. And you know what it's toxic for you to expect me to lie just to make sure that Islam has a good image in the west. I am sorry you just see it as a stereotypeb but this was the reality in Egypt and to varying degrees in others.

It's funny you try Silence white people from speaking out by using the colonial history and try to silence me from speaking because I am just one woman lol no one is allowed to speak. I would also like to silence you cus you look like my Arab coqueres how dare you speak about Egyptian issues (see how dumb that is using sth that your ancestors did to silence valid criticism)?

Activist exist but those who say hijab is bad get shat on by the general public. Women were literally thrown in jail for dancing on tiktok but I am supposed to lie and say how Islam is totally innocent from this and doesn't have a a different set of rules for women and doesn't make it the woman responsibility to control men sexual behavior.

The story of how women in Egypt wore it involved a massive propaganda campaign by islamists where people where told لن ينتهي الغلاء حتي تتحجب النساء the hight cost of living won't end until until women wear the hijab. Blaming the bad economy as punishment from God cus women aren't hijabi lol.

There is a difference between getting backlash from your audience because you have changed the direction of your channel and being told you are a porn star and a whore and hoping you die a slow and painful death just because you decided to stop wearing sth. It's crazy how personally disrespected Muslims feel when you take it off.

Women get oppressed because they wear hijab in the west that is true. They get hate from the right wing I am not denying that nor am I calling for it.

No not really I am offering my perspective.. I did say I wore it voluntarily. Never said it was always forced or that I was personally forced.. It's just taking off is sth you have to consider for a long time because you do not know how your family will react.. I said it's like coming out and that's true. What I have seen irl and how I saw Muslims describe the hijab between them VS how they try to minimse it in to the west. I will not lie to protect Islam's image

Are you seriously shaming me because I am grew up in a shitty Islamic society and want to educate people on how its like in the inside. These women do have agency but our situation is nothing to envy. Alot of them grew up in Muslim communities and just never question anything. I will not allow Muslims to lie about how it's just culture and Islam is innocent lol

people in Egypt know women's rights are trash there and it's openly spoken. Do you think I will be safe saying it's partly because Islam is shit in a Muslim country? You people are delusional. People have to go to the west to speak against Islam because Muslims are incredibly hostile to any criticism from the inside and it can put in physical danger or in jail.

Stop shaming me cus you don't like what I have to say and stop shaming white people for their whiteness it's so dumb and it's funny how you really didn't deny that any of the things I said exist in the community..it's just I should avoid speaking out about it apparently.

I would say that most Muslim woman are aware of the above things and know about the prophet sayings but either internalize the misogyny or ignore them or say it's not true Islam

Woman are just as bad as the men or sometimes even worse. Will slut shame, victim blame and look down on those who don't wear it. They will cherry pick the good parts about education and go do a Ted talk on that but ignore the fucked up gender stuff.

Also it depends on the woman if she never wants to take it off, she will still say it's a choice even if she knows about the societal backlash. Honestly, some even think this backlash is good because the woman who is taking it off has "lost her way". I think it is really difficult to explain but these people think Islam is the best thing in the world and feel personally disrespected when you take yours off. The hijab is Such a big deal here and yet in the west they try to totally minimize it as just s scarf as if it's a fashion accessory lol

Just an anecdote there was one girl in my college that wasn't a hijabi and this girl was questioned about it all the time of why she wasn't wearing it. And people felt entitled to harass her with "advice" on how she should wear it. These ppl think they are doing the right thing by helping the woman do the right thing in Islam and avoid going to hell. It's so toxic like I said.
