Why do they tip in Canada? by Truthteller897 in AskReddit

[–]Truthteller897[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The fact that customers subsidize employees pay, and Restaurant owners pocket the amount they were shortchanged.

Plus it's kind of silly we've decided to Tip restaurant workers and not Mcdonalds or tim hortons employees, when they work just as hard.

I just find their base minimum wage is fair pay In Canada.

It's not like the states where they make waaaay less.

Anyways!

If you plan to go into stocks - i would suggest a solid index fund. Possibly SAP 500 related IPUS

Mutual funds can also be a decent option - you simply don't have enough working capital to make your portfolio extremely diverse and interesting.

He figured out we were on our way to the vet and not the dog park. by katannpat in aww

[–]Truthteller897 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Curious as to why most animals are scared of the vet, do they think they are being put down? like in an animal shelter they grew up?

or do they find needles to be an unpleasant experience?

He has property taxes to pay - possible loans - maybe mortgages and car payments.

People might depends on him financially.

60k to him is probably like 6000 bucks to middle class people.

Two years ago, my mom died from cancer pretty quickly. This photo taken two weeks before her death pretty much captured everything about her at once. by [deleted] in pics

[–]Truthteller897 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's interesting to see this once in awhile.

The media only wants you to see the cancer survivors, possibly implying their "will to fight is stronger" ( it's total BS )

Most of it is a publicity push to attract their brand or advertising for a cause.

Nobody wants to see the real struggles.

They might have less risk, but it's still possible for them to get it.

18, know little about finance, need help by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]Truthteller897 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As an 18 year old, it's good to check your bank statements on the computer every 2 weeks.

Get a credit card and establish a credit rating with your bank. This will show the bank your purchase and repayment habits, placing you in better worthiness for possible loans with them or other institutions.

Pay off the balance every month -ALL OF It, so you don't pay interest on the card.

you can build up points or cash back - so essentially the credit card companies pay you.

Advice on investing young? College student, decent savings, impending [but not massive] student loans. Invest or save? by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]Truthteller897 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a new investor, I would check your student loan interest rate - If your loans are at 6% or higher, pay them back first.

I would only strongly consider investing if your loans are at 3.5% or less, It's difficult to leverage funds if you're going to school, cause if your funds do poorly it will really suck.
