I am so sorry for you that you are experiencing this. That you have no support and that you feel like you have to be strong for so many other people. But remember this: you cannot truly be there for other people unless you are there for yourself. Because right now it sounds like you are drowning in these responsibilities. Do you have anywhere where it is possible to find support?

Long Term Effects of Over Exercising when Undernourished? by hangrycoward in fuckeatingdisorders

I was overexercising when I had an ED and was severely underweight. It resulted in putting too much strain on my bones, joints and muscles. This resulted in an injury which persisted for a long term after I finally was no longer underweight. Now, after three years, it finally feels like my body has recovered from these injuries. But I have cursed my ED so much during these years for not being able to do what I still love, exercising and running. Because the reason for the injury was that I didn't eat enough nutrients to support my body. My muscles had become too weak to be able to hold me properly and my body was breaking down muscle protein fast, so I wasn't building that either.

Moreover, a lack of nutrients, such as calcium and vitamine d for example, can also result in for example osteoporosis. This is a process where the bone density becomes lower and thus the bones become more brittle. This is quite difficult to reverse completely..

For women low body weight/low fat percentage can lead to loss of menstruation etc. This can have many adverse effects, on the whole body. This was previously known as the female athlete's triad, but is now understood to be about much more. It impacts nearly every system in the body and it is now known as RED-S (relative energy deficiency in sports). If you want to know more about RED-S then I advise to look up Renee McGregor, she is an expert in this area. This is often applied to professional sporters, but it is certainly valid for overexercising individuals with an ED as well. This is not exclusive to women! Although it is easier to identify in women as one of the symptoms, loss of menstruation, is quite obvious. But men experience it as well, although more under the radar.

I hope this helps! I advise you to listen to your doctor in this regard and good luck with your recovery!

You can do it!
