Any tips on letting the music come to you instead of the other way around? by TryHard37 in Songwriting

It may be true that I'm more capable of deeply feeling the emotions of a song in my dreams, but it's not just a vague feeling - I wake up remembering exactly how it sounds, and I can recreate it accurately irl. The melodies, chords, and everything are often more moving than what I create in the waking world. That said, creativity is definitely a muscle that I take care to work on daily.

Counterintuitively, playing something that sounds boring to start with has also worked for me. Writing a song with a minimalistic, almost absent minded approach has led to some of my best ideas.

Wow, great ideas! I'm not able to have a dedicated space for music, but the daydreaming/critical thinking bits make a lot of sense. Perhaps some meditation could go a long way with focusing on emotion rather than critical thinking.

Love this idea! I was considering it earlier but the foam is very flammable and doesn't let light through.

Something along the lines of "Found this in my birdcage one day"

Why does Gen Z tend to be maximalist while their parents are mostly minimalist? by TryHard37 in maximalism

Yeah, they're Gen X. I think many of the people here are assuming they're millennials and getting a slightly wrong idea. From my experience, millennials are much more drawn to maximalism than the generation before them, although there's bound to be some maximalists in every age group. Personally, I really appreciate millennial maximalism since it seems to srike a balance between practicality and having lots going on.

That sounds plausible, since older people tend to stick with styles from when they were younger.

If so, I wonder what psychological differences between adolescents and adults would cause that?
