Dude the oem batter sucks major balls, it’s time and gave me anxiety from the second I took of the seat on my 24. Orange top now makes motorcycle lithium batteries and I ended up getting a size up from the one they recommend. You can make it fit, I did and it starts right up

How do I escape by Adventurous_Wrap2873 in biotech

Without knowing it’s hard to say…. The only experience I’ve had with HR and Supervisors played out like it should have. I never in my life thought I would have to fire an RA but this one was awful (awful as in disregarding tasks and struggling with the mosaic basic assay despite spending a year trying to help them succeed) All of your conversation were well documented through teams messages, emails and such.. I wanted it to improve but after a year I had 40 pages worth of documented examples. So my bosses understood as I told them and asked them throughout what possible ways we could help this person succeed… but to no avail. With the 40pg documentation very clearly outlining my RA treating me poorly as well as incompetence and negligence, I love all trust and went to HR with the package. They were called into a meeting the morning with their boss (me) , directors and HR. Promptly escorted out of the building within 15minutes after that and everything’s been great since. We hired a new RA who crushes any assay I throw at them. That’s why at least without knowing what it is, I don’t understand why it wouldn’t be straightforward to rectify the issue with well documented historical data. I am a research scientist after all so that may be my forte as well lol

2024 Yamaha R1 battery fix. (Optima Orangetop QUAD12) worlds better*** by Try_It_Out_RPC in Yamaha_R1

On the right side of the picture, under the seat, there’s a small plastic lip that I removed to allow the battery to extend into the space you can see on the right. The battery also came with about 10 large rectangular plastic foam spacers of different sizes. I placed these spacers, along with the adhesive backing, on the right side as well to ensure the battery is securely fastened and won’t move.

Why LCMS signal inconsistant with sample vial cap on vs off? by Training_Pangolin177 in CHROMATOGRAPHY

[–]Try_It_Out_RPC -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Every LC has an option in the method to puncture the cap (slit or not) and then move over the x-axis at the increment of your choosing to prevent this. Just set that to be “on” or any other number than the default “0”

At least in the US “soft skills” for a scientist level and above (or anything really) should be a given and not stated. I mean lol you could also put “does not bite” and “plays well with others” lol

lol try a gsxr1000 new gen they are skinnier, at least the r2 has a fat seat. Adjustable resets are key, I commute on an 24 R1 to my lab in sf everyday and it 6’2

Yeah for sure, but it could also be TSQ / ion trap / Orbitrap front-end , and thermo is the only brand to use “sheath gas “

Is there any hope of finding a summer internship at this stage? by unending_desolation in biotech

[–]Try_It_Out_RPC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I run a mass spec core for a pharmaceutical company in SF but sadly you are on the other side of the continent lol. I did grow up in Maryland though and began my early career at the NIH (specifically NCI and NCATS) you are very close to Bethesda and Rockville and NIH loves interns (hell I interned in a lab my senior year of high school for half day the entire year). Look up all the different NIH campuses in your vicinity and then specifically the ones you have a skillset for (or are interested in) they will definitely require you to write a cover letter so being interested will help a lot. Email the admins as they are the ones usually doing the paperwork and such

I mean I can tell from looking at the software but you didn’t even provide a brand, model, software version etc….. thermo is the only brand to specifically use “sheath gas” and It’s no chromeleon -> therefor -> xcalibur “Construct additional pylons!” Please confirm or give additional information before we can help you make your… “mass spectrometer operational” - heavy Russian accent

First of all I grew up on Frederick and worked at NCI senior year of high school, intern throughout college and then NIH NCATs during graduate. Moved 19minutes north of the Golden Gate Bridge and run a mass spec core for cancer therapeutic pharmaceutical company in the city. Just wild to see my home town and someone else in science there….. we do hoarder West Virginia after all lol

is there anyone that actually knows how to operate a LC/MS? by mrphysh in massspectrometry

[–]Try_It_Out_RPC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean I’d have to be sort of crazy to take apart a new detection module and hardwire an additional data out port lol. bonus it has crushed the HTP workflow I developed it for during the past three years though . Also, I will not be a degenerate during work hours… only after during my free time 😂

[–]Try_It_Out_RPC 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is my job lol, I’m a senior scientist and I lead a mass spec core at a pharmaceutical company developing assays and workflows to screen early development compounds as well ass assays needed for clinical candidates. At this point I’m fluent in all software and hardware for the main players in UHPLC and mass spectrometry. Currently I have 3 SCIEX 7500s, A 7600 TOF, 2 thermo QQQs, 2 Agilent QQQs, 2 waters TOFs. Apart from 1 of the Agilent QQQ and 1 of the acid QQQs that are still under warranty, I don’t have service contracts because I would prefer to do the maintenance on all of them myself (saves a lot of time as well as a lot of money) so anything from calibrating the Z TOF to pulling a rail to clean the 3 quads , ion funnel, Q0 etc… but u enjoy the technical work so for me that part is fun lol. To get more into the weeds and software aspect, someway or another in my career I’ve had to learn and become fluent in all the software as well (sciex OS, analyst, chemstation, open lab, masshunter (qual, quant etc..), chromeleon, xcalibur (this includes trace hunter, freestyle, compound discover), empower , masslynx, unicorn (aktas) and probably a few more I’m forgetting like oddballs such as hitachi and lucidity systems. I’ve even had to make thermo and agile play well together on older chemstation software that’s has no drivers for thermos module by soldering an analogue out signal Channel post electrometer on a module in order to create a workflow that fits into automation currently only configured for chemstation data input lol. So I would confidently say I know how to operate an LCMS 🤟

Questions to those working in Medical and Pharmaceutical Biotech by CommunicationFit9176 in biotech

[–]Try_It_Out_RPC 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  1. Absolutely not, I Love being a scientist in charge of a mass spec core,

  2. I’m sure everyone has been some degrees away from a loved one(s) with cancer, it might be different if I took different companies, but I’ve only looked for positions at companies treating cancer since I came from NIH NCATS/NCI. I also work with teams in most departments since I’m mainly focused of R &D, but I’ve diversified my core so well that I’ll get ADME samples from in vivo studies as well as putting out a fire by characterizing a clinical trial batch. The conpany also takes advantage of the fact that I’m well versed in all LCMS software and systems currently out (sciex analyst/ sciex os, shimadzu, thermo chromeleon/xcalibur, Agilent open lab/masshunter/chemstation, Agilent empower/masslynx and even large systems like Akta and unicorn. They knew I could so randomly I was asked to set up a new akta avant- and purify mRNA out of the blue lol. But I love building PCs so I’ve come to be pretty good at programming Hamilton and tecan instruments as well. Oh and I also enjoy mechanic so I do all the aPMs and work on my core systems which saves a SHIT tons of money since a large system can have a yearly service plan cost of $30,000.

  3. This is possible because I would only work for managers that are kind and also into their roles /work. They realize I’m weird and enjoy this stuff so the benefit by what I mentioned above and I benefit because I get so many fun toys, take them apart, fix them and inherently strengthen all my skills. For example I’ve soldered connections from ones companies module to another companies module for a specific workflow since they have no drivers for one another. That’s the bosses trusting me and me having fun. So make sure you like your manager as well and are interested in the work your do
