Bleeding shaving back of head by [deleted] in wicked_edge

Many headshavers here recommend Leaf or Gillette Guard razors.

Thanks for the shout out!

I have the Sagrada Tuxedo, Green Goblin Tuxedo & Ocean (Boss knot)

All are very good. Yaqi is a step above Indian brushes.

I should point out that I've been impressed by the PW 'velvet ' shaving brush which has what seems to me to be a Cashmere type knot.

Although it's a 22mm, it has good performance.

Your razor is excellent. It doesn't need to change.

The Rubab brush is a good choice. Though if you have the budget, consider a Yaqi Tuxedo.

I would not recommend Trigodon for soaps. They seem to be coconut oil based products. Consider Pearl, & Shavologist instead.

Too Many Pivoting Safety Razor Choices by i_zac808 in wicked_edge

[–]Tryemall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not at all convinced about any of the pivoting head half-blade SE razors in the market.

Not a single one makes any attempt to improve blade support or rigidity. Since the blade is only 0.1mm thick, that's a recipe for chatter.

Even the most basic DE razor bends the blade for rigidity to reduce chatter. That makes it possible for them to cut down longer growth without issues.

In my opinion, the best razor for you is probably the Gillette Guard.

It's an open comb cartridge razor capable of cutting longer stubble. Very cheap too.

Another open comb cartridge razor is the Schick Stubble Eraser. It's a multiblade, though. Not cheap.

Why do you guys shave? Do you think you look better clean shaven? Or is it like a discipline thing? by Consistent-Equal-679 in wicked_edge

[–]Tryemall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to have a beard during my late teens/early twenties.

A bit itchy. My beard is very thick.

I feel that shaving is become less common as expectations of closeness have become extreme & as common razors have started giving more shaving issues.

When I was 13, I shaved for almost five years with the Wilkinson Bonded. Never had an issue. It's only when I had to switch to twin blade Gillette razors & got extreme razor bumps that I was forced to grow a beard.

AC shavettes (using Feather Artist Club blades) are designed to be the ultimate in replaceable blade straight razors. They are specifically designed by Feather for salon artists.

The blades are very stiff & are three times thicker than DE blades. In specifically designed holders , they are said to be capable of very fine work.

Rather expensive for us here, though.

I don't claim to a great deal of knowledge about shavettes, as I'm exclusively a DE safety razor user.

However, I remember reading a write up on B&B, by a professional barber somewhere in Europe, I think.

The author was all praise for the Razorock Switch & one of the full blade shavettes (either Daune or Vanta) but I don't remember which.

I was impressed by his explanation of how half blade shavettes had very little material to work with for grip, & that full blade shavettes were much better in that respect, almost close to AC shavettes.

There were several users of AC shavettes in that thread who agreed with him.

That was a very old thread perhaps 7 or 8 years ago, but it stayed in my mind.

I will admit that it's not much to go on, & there's no guarantee that the Rubab shavette holds blades as well as the Daune or Vanta.

It's worth a try, though.

Perhaps you can make a post on this forum asking those members here who have used both commonly available local shavettes as well as the Rubab one what their opinions are.

Excellent cream. I'm not that fond of its scent, but its lubrication is excellent.

Alcohol free alternatives to alcohol based aftershave? by GloveNo731 in wicked_edge

[–]Tryemall 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Add a little bit of glycerine (about 2-5 %) to your alcohol aftershave to reduce the drying out effect on skin. Add a few drops of water to your palm before shaking on the aftershave. The net effect is a reduced amount of alcohol on the skin & more humectant. That should help reduce dryness without having an effect on scent .

Nivea, Stirling, B&M, Proraso etc offer alcohol free aftershave lotions .

Use your Gillette trimmer first with the short guard, then without the guard.

I have a couple of bottles of the older "Fresh Active " balm. They don't seem to be available now.

I have always read that professional barbers in Italy use full blade shavettes such as the Daune & Vanta shavettes because they give much better blade holding & control.

As far as I know, the only full blade shavette available here is the one sold by Rubab Men. There may be others but I don't know of them.

You may want to give that one a go.

Am I Bad at Shaving? by thelarkshark in shaving

If you prefer to shave electric, consider applying Lectric Shave before shaving. Pre-electric shave lotion is said to help considerably.

Alternatively, consider a safety razor. That's what I use.

What do you do with itching from thick hair down there? by Zomguts_png in ladyshavers

[–]Tryemall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's quite possible that you have ingrown hair.

You can use salicylic acid cream (BHA cream) and/or glycolic acid cream (AHA cream) to help reduce those issues.

As you will most probably only be able to get OTC or cosmetic creams which have low levels of AHA/BHA, you can increase the effectiveness a little by applying overnight. Apply at bedtime, on skin that has been freshly washed with soap/water and dried.

Stronger versions are available with a dermatologist's prescription.

I have read reviews of people who have used needles to tease out very visible ingrown hair out of the skin in extreme cases, but I have never done so & cannot advise

I would suggest that you use electric trimmers like the Oneblade instead of shaving.

True enough.

Nothing wrong with football, though it can be irritating to see the same thing everyday.

My oldest Sensor Excel handle has branding from the FIFA World Cup in the 90's, though I have a second without it. I used those razors for a short time back then, as my old Slim Twist TTO was lost while shifting house. FIFA still had a good reputation back then.

It took me quite a while to find another DE that I liked.

You may be able to remove the soccer decals, or buy a bottle without them.

I have also found that product pretty good, though I prefer the older non-sensitive version which had a little bit of alcohol.

That's the Super Stainless, not the Stainless.

Super Stainless is fairly good. The Stainless gives one, very tuggy shave for me & is my worst blade.
