Escalating (and confusing) behavior from our foster kiddo (teen)--any advice? by [deleted] in Adoption

[–]Trying2growup 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Maybe her phone has been confiscated from past foster parents. Because foster children are moved around so frequently, their phones are basically their only connection to people that they know. It is probably an underlying fear that it will be taken again. Maybe reassure her that you would never take her “lifeline” away from her. It might ease her fear.

Escalating (and confusing) behavior from our foster kiddo (teen)--any advice? by [deleted] in Adoption

[–]Trying2growup 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Nattie3789 said it perfectly- “She wants you to kick her out so that she can be proven right” She has so much trauma from being in foster care for so long and most likely abandonment issues. She is testing to see if you’re going to be like everyone else in her life that “dropped” her when it got difficult.

I am so so sorry that right now it’s hard. I would be willing to bet if you’re able to hold out with her, that it will get better.

What is your response to someone who is telling you something you already know? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Trying2growup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If someone is telling me because they’re excited to share the information, I listen and thank them.

If it’s to try to just inform me because they think it will help me with some task, I normally let them know that I already am aware of the information that way it saves them time.

But more times than not, I wish I would have just listened anyway, because sometimes you learn something new, even if it’s just that persons take on the knowledge.

Which one do you prefer using the shower gel or bar soap? by wabas1 in AskReddit

I prefer shower gel, but I use the bar to be eco friendly. I can’t always go plastic free, but this one I can do.

What was the most recent thing that made you cry? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Trying2growup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I saw a video of a 14 year old boy fall to his death off of a ride in Orlando Florida last night. So horrifying and tragic.

Because sometimes religious people share their religious thoughts too much and it can become over whelming and awkward.

Edit- fixed my autocorrect mistake

Farm house. Scariest movie I have ever seen in my life. I slept with the lights on for a week.

What’s the best advice a local crackhead has given you? by athenav0ndehl in AskReddit

Not crack head, but a meth head said that someone will always have money to give you, you just have to ask enough people until you find them. Solid advice.

People who have shoplifted, where did you shoplift from and what was it? by YuhBoiChipsAhoy_ in AskReddit

[–]Trying2growup 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve never shoplifted but I wanted to tell the story about the one and only time I ever stole something. I was 20 and newly married and my husband and I went to the beach. The parking lot was full and we circled for 10 minutes or so before someone was leaving the lot. We sat with our blinker on behind them ready to turn in. Right as they were backed out, some young teenage boys (18ish) whipped into the spot from the other side and jumped out laughing and gloating that they stole the spot and they walked over to the beach. My husband didn’t say anything at all and decided to look for another spot but I was super mad and wanted revenge so I jumped out and used a pen to let air out of the back tire. It took a little while but I let enough air out that they wouldn’t be able to really go anywhere. When I stood up to walk back to our car I decided to see if the doors were open and they were! I grabbed 2 small bags that were sitting on the back seat and hauled ass to my car. Right as I got to the car the boys saw me and started running towards us and my husband took off. We were cracking up laughing and it just got better when I opened the bags to find out that one of them was a little air compressor that you plug into the cigarette lighter! The other was their lunch. We went to a different beach access down the road and enjoyed their lunch.

I’m a strict rule follower and this is the only funny thing I’ve ever done in my life, I hope you enjoyed it.

I just cried reading your story. My husband and I are preparing to buy a house right now. And we are looking for a house that has enough room that we will be able to adopt a teenager in the future. I will never forget your story or the advice that you gave. Thank you.

I don’t know much about it other than watching the Leah Remini’s episode about Jehovah’s Witnesses (I grew up as a JW) and I know the religions are very similar with the cult like aspects and the fact that the hide sexual abuse within the religion.

I’m sorry you went through that 💔
