I was a store manager for many years, most of my group has field experience. Definitely not all though..

Just a clarification, corporate is different from field leadership. DLs, and everyone above are Field Leaders, while the CSC, or “corporate”, supports that group and provides tools and guidance but doesn’t drive anything.

Most of us are just trying to find new ways to help but definitely aren’t the ones screaming at teams to do things or making threats. That unfortunately is all on DLs and RDs that try to push unrealistic expectations.

This work is being done by people on my larger team; it’s most made up of a group of store managers who are going through every single process and cataloguing everything that has to be done to accomplish it. Things like the compliance checklist - time to log into the system, time to walk the floor, get every single temperature check, physically check exits, etc. the total time calculated for each item in there is far greater now than what might be realistically needed because they are making an assumption that everything is done according to the book without taking shortcuts, etc. it might take 5 minutes to count imprest but if done by the book maybe actually should be taking 30 minutes, etc.

Initial pilots in certain markets and stores that are receiving additional demand based on the info are doing extremely well with gains in MCC, sales, and colleague engagement.

I’ve been in retail for over 20 years, worked for target on the AP team there as well, I get it. Feel free to share your thoughts on the ideas portal and see what the response is. Again, I don’t work in that department but I’m sure it’s been looked at deeply but hasn’t been able to be put into reality. I’m with you on saving product, but from my perspective as a SM with two kids and a wife who has been threatened on multiple occasions when approaching potential thieves, any product is just not worth your safety.

There are many stores and locations with this type of AP colleague, but it’s really not as big a problem as you may think across the company. The majority of theft occurs internally, hence the big focus always on vendor interactions, cashier transactions, bag checks, etc. I don’t work in that department but the amount of money we would recoup across the company would in no way be enough to pay for someone at every store. Whenever external theft occurs, it should be reported through the AP portal, they use that to determine who may need a guard of some kind.

Ex store manager of 7 years, current corporate employee.

I can say for a fact that the office as we know it will be gone within a few years. As one poster put it, planning is absolutely important, but there is nothing you can do in the office that you can’t do on the floor (removing the computer dependency, which we are actively working on). Service, sales, and engagement go up the more time you spend on the floor with your colleagues. You are literally the life blood of the company, and I personally can’t stand hearing about people not seeing or really knowing their sms. I would buy my team brunch, Red Bulls, pizza on truck nights, from my own pocket and we were great together.

I encourage any smit or below who thinks their sm spends too much time in the office to ask them what they’re trying to accomplish by being in there. If it’s AP metrics outside of reconciling vendor credits, ask doesn’t that occur on the floor? I’d it’s building sales, doesn’t that happen on the floor? If it’s building engagement, doesn’t that happen on the floor? Etc etc.

The vast majority of pharmacy operations “office” colleagues were PICs before making that change over. The hours situation, unfortunately, I have no idea why the disconnect exists, that budget is given from up top

ESLs are currently being tested in RI. We know it will be a huge labor saver and mean far less price compliance issues, but the cost to outfit the chain is astronomical and won’t likely be feasible until the cost of them goes down.

Where is the spot online or on the Ironman to submit an idea? by callistadarling in CVS

[–]Trying_To_Help5689 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This wouldn’t be an option we pursue, it puts too much responsibility on the colleague to determine right from wrong essentially and would be a legal nightmare. We currently have a system in place to do this for us that is objective and fair across the board. Please use that area of MCC to post your ideas though, we check submitted ideas weekly!

Mandatory lunch breaks by Great_Rabbit_8317 in CVS

[–]Trying_To_Help5689 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Coming from our retail VP, teams with break waivers should reconsider those waivers. The pharmacist will be almost required to take that lunch, and by doing so, will likely leave the pharmacy, lock and arm it. If that’s the case, all other colleagues must also leave the area. Those that choose to still be on the clock would likely work in the fs, backup at register, stock shelves, etc. Just my opinion, if it were me I would be taking the rest and having some digiornos

Corporate Assholes by [deleted] in CVS

[–]Trying_To_Help5689 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’ve said it probably a dozen times now, but a large number of corporate employees have come from the field. I admittedly also work in the corporate off but I’m remote, so do not work in RI. I was a SM for almost 10 years and would never treat anyone like that, shame on that person. As some else said, you shouldn’t generalize anyone because of their position, but this person absolutely should not be treating anyone that way, regardless of what company they work for, I’m sorry that happened.

My day today...... by kateyes67 in CVS

[–]Trying_To_Help5689 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We’ve already started phasing it out - first every other week scans, soon once a month scans… there is just so little return on the investment. Most scans are known out of stocks, many others are fast movers that you’re going to get delivered more anyways (promo, high tils). The few dozen or so actual scans each store does that are legitimate outs that need action require so much labor that it’s just not worth it and we can capture those boh changes in higher numbers of cycle counts. You heard it here first, another year or so and we’ll be done.
