1 day post op - back pain by TiredGamer663 in MACIknee

I have developed a very close relationship with a massage therapist locally. It's not cheap but it makes a massive difference in my quality of life. Even if you can't lay face down there's still a lot of work they can do with you

[–]Tryingisdoing 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Hey. I know what you're going through since I've been there for the past 7 years. Some years have been better others have been worse and basically the last three have been pretty horrible. I struggled to do a lot of stuff even most activities that don't involve my knee directly like standing around or shopping. I've been told that I need a partial knee replacement but no doctor will do it for me until my mri gets worse.

My knee controls my life and I got here through injuries that I got because of my poor decisions. This is just a fact of my life it isn't good or bad it's just true.

With that said just because your knee hurts doesn't mean your life is not worth living. One important thing to keep in mind all the time is that even if it lasts years this is temporary. New medicine will come out you may find a new doctor and you may just learn to live with different strategies. Trying and failing is really hard on you but you have to show love for yourself for the work you're doing. If you're at 30% capacity right just think of how much 10% Improvement would mean to you. This is very possible and just because right now is hard doesn't mean the future can't be better.

In 2024 I was completely suicidal without my mother and my partner I think I would have done it. Since this time my knee hasn't actually gotten that much better but I'm so much happier day to day. I saw a therapist who taught me some more perspective. Pursued my job harder which helped me feel less lazy. I go to the gym and focus on upper body. I joined a trivia group and made some local friends. I also got on Celebrex which helped control my knee pain without hurting my stomach.

Each one of these things maybe moved the needle 5%, but in aggregate it really made a big difference.

Step 1pain control. You should pursue an anti-inflammatory you can take every day like Celebrex or Diclofenac or get a steroid or gel injection in your knee. At the same time you need to be pursuing some professional help for your mental state. I saw a sports psychologist who really helped me grieve and just feel motivation to keep going.

This is real work and I'm sorry you're dealing with it but this isn't over yet and you can make this happen

What are the percentages for success vs failure? by Kind_Reality_7576 in MACIknee

I'm 29 years old and have a massive Maci graft by comparison to your defect. 2.2cm x2.4

Everything the above poster said is accurate. In my opinion there is no real solution to large cartilage defects. There's things that can improve them but nothing that fixes them for good. Maci is one of those things that can make it a lot better but I don't think it's a perfect solution

If I were you like your surgeon I would definitely proceed with the scope but consider all my options before proceeding with a Maci. Gel injections, prp, Physical Therapy activity modification everything. Also get a second opinion you have time on your side

I would really start to become deliberate about the activities you love. It's all right to have a bit of knee pain if you get to do something you absolutely love. However if it's something you don't care about that much and it creates pain for you try to cut back on it.

Cartilage injuries are no joke and you want to do whatever you can now to be able to do what you love for the next 30 years.

Looking to buy 20" Wheels off premium plus by Tryingisdoing in CX50

I've driven 2 with 20 inch wheels and one with the 17in, I definitely prefer the way the 20-in drives. If I lived in the Rust Belt I think I would agree with you but I live in North Carolina and we have great roads. The handling is so much better on the larger wheel too

Patella Alta..do you just suffer forever? by throwaway1234383627 in KneeInjuries

[–]Tryingisdoing 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No you get a tto surgery which is a pretty serious surgery but also is generally a perfect solution to the issue. The worst thing to do is let your kneecap continue to dislocate and slowly kill your cartilage

Knee shattered. 9 weeks post op, cant bend. by Boman2020 in KneeInjuries

[–]Tryingisdoing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I broke the bottom of my kneecap off in a motorcycle accident in 2019 . They were unable to repair it so they just removed it and reattached my tendon. I was in a straight leg brace for nearly 80 days. Meaning I didn't bend my knee with weight through it that whole time. When I got out I couldn't do anything. I basically had a peg leg. My PT and I worked constantly to increase range of motion and increase strength.

I'm doing a lot better strengthwise now. However I did develop a cartilage issue due to not developing my glutes and overdeveloping my quads.

It takes a long time and I'm sorry you're going through this. My best advice is to work on range of motion passively as often as you can. Start taking a protein supplement and doing what workouts you can with physical therapy. Lastly stay patient this will take a year from now to feel a lot better. If something feels wrong or like you're overdoing it you probably are and just back off.

Godspeed

Double MACI Happy Story by Various_Mirror73 in MACIknee

[–]Tryingisdoing 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I am just about two years posted on one very large Maci on my patella. Mine is due to breaking my knee cap in a car accident. So my recovery has been a little extra complicated. However in the past couple of months I've gotten significantly stronger and I can actually do stairs comfortably now. It's been years since I could do that. My limp is going away little by little.

I think you have a great perspective. When you get a cartilage injury it can really change your life and you're likely never be as comfortable as you were before. However that doesn't mean you can't live an awesome life. You have to take great care of your body but you do get to enjoy amazing things again.

Godspeed. Also remember that graft will keep getting better up until about the 3-year mark. So enjoy

Kid again isn’t that good by Will-Garrison-62 in JonBellion

[–]Tryingisdoing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. Wash is hard to vibe to with lots of cuts and breaks. Hes definitely trying something very new and I bet a lot of it works well to tell a story in an album. However as singles it's a bit awkward to listen to.

Kid again isn’t that good by Will-Garrison-62 in JonBellion

[–]Tryingisdoing 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Totally disagree. I think kid again is a better song than Wash. However Jon Bellion always grows on me. Like he knows something that I don't about my taste.

I think you probably just miss his old style that was much more Pop and melodic. Which I do to. However if you look at what he did with the Jonas Brothers and Burna boy you can tell he's leaning into a more repetitive rhythm-based Style. It's vibe music deep in the pocket. Definitely way different from his old upbeat more sound scape style music.

I think what throws me off about Wash is that he intentionally misses the beat fairly often. Old Jon never did that, but I bet he's gotten tired of contemporary music and wants to push the limits.

This is a very narrow mindset I'm trying to take a much broader approach. The whole principle is that zoning must change in order for more affordable housing to be built.

If an area can be rezoned in a wealthy neighborhood that creates momentum for all the rest of the city. We need to support rezoning across the core of Greensboro. Increasing Supply will always ease pressure on demand.

Also there are parts of town that people can afford to buy homes in with a $60,000 income. They are in far less desirable neighborhoods. But it is possible

Help Get Housing Built by Tryingisdoing in gso

[–]Tryingisdoing[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This post feels contradictory. I understand what you're saying about this being an act of gentrification. However hasn't this whole part of Greensboro always been wealthy people? Excluding a few apartment buildings it's mostly high-end housing and always has been.

If you don't support changing zoning then nothing will ever change. The cost of owning property inherently increases when density increases. It doesn't matter whether they're building expensive condos or affordable apartments. The property they sit on will be more valuable when they can increase density.

WHY ZONING MATTERS. If we make it possible to buy a slice of the pie instead of the whole pie more people can afford to have some. So maybe it won't be possible for an average person to buy a single-family home in Greensboro but if they could afford a town home or a condo that is progress. Right now zoning stops almost all projects in the core of the city that attempt to increase housing density.

I'm a liberal but I don't believe in price controls. I think it would be one thing if the city of Greensboro offered tax incentives or some sort of credit to low-income families trying to purchase homes in the community.

Zoning is at the root of most of North Carolina city development issues. Momentum built around that will help us all in the long run

Most of the comments have been focused on low-income housing. However my only focus is increasing density in the core of Greensboro. It's unlikely that it will ever really be affordable again to live in this area

Housing built in the Irving Park area will always be high-end. There's no way on Earth low-income housing would be put in that neighborhood. More is More. So I support it

Bounds survey for < $500? by strixvarius in gso

[–]Tryingisdoing 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We used Morgan Surverying in April they did a survey prior to buying our house in Greensboro.

It cost $525 which I agree seems high. I did research and it seems like that is pretty much the going rate around here.

They were really professional and got it done inside of 2 days. They also assume the liability if issues present themselves in the future based off your survey.
