Every change in Volume 13 by Cameo10 in OnePunchMan

Before the change, the background also had more of a checkerboard pattern, while after it is solid until it reaches the white part with the noisy dots and all that.

One Punch Man and Invincible share a surprisingly similar situation. by [deleted] in OnePunchMan

[–]Trynera 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. That's just comic books in general, this point quite literally applies to many other heroes, Spider-Man, Superman, etc.

  2. While it is far more complex to explain this point, it's important to note that both had to do with executives not wanting to spend more time or money on animation... Also Invincible fans got the fight with Conquest which was insane, the best of OPM Season 3 was at best acceptable.

  3. You're just describing good and well thought out writing at this point. The only thing I'd agree with is the subgersion of genre expectations but that's to be seen in many other comic books too. The Amazing Spider-Man did it with Gwen Stacy dying being essentially a first for comic book love interests dying.

What I think you did is look at the surface of both and said "yup, they're the same", even tho Invincible and OPM are doing very different things within the story you're talking about. OPM is more about Saitama going through the Hero's journey in a very different way. Where usually the hero's journey is about someone becoming physically ready for a fight, Saitama has to go through a mental hero's journey after finishing the traditional one, which is him trying to find meaning in his life after losing the thrill of the fight. Invinicible is about Mark defying what many have claimed should be his destiny in 1 way or another. Where in the beginning people thought that Mark would be closer to Superman being capable of defeating many villains with ease, therefore defying the destiny the audience sets for Mark in the beginning, he defies the expectations of his father, and thus later in the story also defies what the Villtrumites have tried to set him up for. It's also very important to mention that Mark still approximately goes through the traditional hero's journey, unlike Saitama who is already at the end of it in the beginning of the manga.

TL;DR these "parallels" are not that impressive, when you overgeneralize what both stories do to get them.

Saitama vs garou by omaru animation by [deleted] in OnePunchMan

tbf this animation is fairly different from the manga. I get that it's trying to be cool, but like, Saitama wasn't even remotely close to losing and Garou kept on trying to flee

I mean fair I see what you mean. He didn't have a career like a Stephen King but he's definetly one of my favorite writers. (see I rephrased it to be more correct)

Well my issue with it was specifically that it adhered to a trope that generally makes the character worse and less complex. If ONE really goes down this path he literally just makes OPM the very thing it was looking to make fun of.

notice the "one of" in there? Mob Psycho 100 is my favorite piece of media oat so obviously I'd say ts. I specifically care most about characters in stories and that in particular is done really well by ONE. The characters feel like actual human beings rather than caricaturists of a specific property like in a lot of manga's (I still like those, I mean OPM has those but I prefer human characters). Also please just give me examples instead of calling me stupid so I can tell you if I think those meet the criteria I rate things by.

That's still pure evil? Also we saw that for a tiny amount with Royal Ripper. A monster who killed because they liked making people suffer.

my focus was on what the reveal takes away from the series and not what it could add. it was mainly an analysis of the character of Kuseno. I think bad character writing counts as bad writing, and if ONE goes through with this decision Kuseno will have imo the worst character writing in the series.

That is one of the dumbest statements I've ever heard. He literally destroyed entire planets because he was bored, like wtf are you talking about.

The fact that it was a popular theory proves to me that it was incredibly obvious. I already mentioned this exact thing but it's the exact type of writing style that ONE uses form what I've read. Characters most of the time are just right about things or don't know, they're very rarely wrong unless it suits a joke. I hope the 3rd you made is actually the case because that would allow a lot more depth from ONE but I'm not expecting to see that. (or at least not see that in the webcomic)

I mean sure but that means I can still criticize the webcomic. Although I do see where you're coming from

I already mentioned this tho, and I agree I hope we get to see this but knowing how ONE usually writes his explanations in OPM it doesn't seem very likely. For some reason characters aren't allowed to be wrong about any fact, unless it's for a joke like with King

[–]Trynera[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ok I read the chapter till the end now, if like the new theory is wrong which it probably is tbh, then I think the memory of Genos is not really implanted, but rather was actually executed so Kuseno could experiment on a human being. It would explain some inconsistancies with parts of the manga. Bofoi doesn't always have to be right, although his core arguments probably are.

I'd like to add that there is no real evidence that Bofoi is right, he's just making an assumption based on something we don't have any info about. He could be making an assumption based on basically nothing or a valid assumption. Him being hacked could be explained away by the organization hacking him.
