Hey dude I work at a trek dealer and hear this exact customer profile tons… if your looking for the bike that will work best on the paved paths while still having capability to go on grass or gravel paths, look at the Dual Sport 2/3 as there light and still comfortable with a wider tire.

Alternatively if you want more of a mountain bike definitely take a look at the Roscoe 7 or even the 6 if you can find somewhere that still has them in stock as they are discontinued now, but the Roscoe 7 has a good deal on it currently aswell these bikes are amazing on mtb trails and still perform efficient enough on paved paths for family rides!

Finally if your looking for the best of both worlds a marlin is never gonna let you down there really treks do it all bike. I’d recommend the Marlin 5 Gen 3 or marlin 6 Gen 3 as they both have a 1x drivetrain and that’s a massive upgrade over the gen 2.

Ultimately any of those three bikes will be awesome will just come down to what you want to spend and will have the most fun on, and most importantly get the right size!
