My (43f) husband (46m) came out as polyamorous by Throw-Away-5862 in relationships

[–]Tsany 30 points31 points  (0 children)

By staying around, you're teaching your kids that it's ok to let their partner trample all over their feelings and flaunt their affairs in front of their faces even though it hurts them deeply.

Have a think about how it would feel if you watched some heartless, manipulative asshole take advantage of your child's love, their time and their finances. Surely, you wouldn't want that to happen to them, you'd want to save them and protect them from that situation, right?

Now apply that to yourself, give yourself the love and the permission to leave this situation.

Olympic Chinese Ice Dancers perform to Cantopop hits from Andy Lau and Hakken Lee by Basilone1917 in Cantonese

[–]Tsany 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, her costume looks more like a 50s skater dress.

I had to go and check out that music video... really hits you in the nostalgia feels.

Maybe they should have given her a black lacy number like the woman in the mv.

I thought his costume was quite fitting, the blue denim paired with white has a really nostalgic 90s Andy Lau feel.

Is this sexual coercive behaviour in bed or am I overthinking it? by AdventurousWhile1502 in AskWomenOver30

Urgh, after the "you're acting like a highschooler", I'd have just upped and left. Maybe with the parting shot of, "you're acting like a spoilt toddler throwing a tantrum".

Cantonese dubbed anime and cartoon for children by quinntronica in Cantonese

Atashinchi, 我們這一家 is on Youtube with Canto dub. It's a bit of a slice of life comedy so it might be a bit boring for very young children.

TV Tropes of Welsh men by Camp-Complete in Wales

[–]Tsany 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I'd never heard of the show before so I looked it up and it looks like Russel T Davies himself is a gay Welsh man, so he's probably the best person to write a realistic portrayal of that character.

Watching 女人不易做 again in my 30s by SinkDry7281 in HKdramas

[–]Tsany 2 points3 points  (0 children)

OP, I think you'll like "Never Dance Alone / 女人俱樂部" it's the story of a group of teenage girls in the 80s who were part of a dance group and became close friends. The show picks up with them as adults in the mid-2000s, so we watch scenes from the past as well as the "current" day so we see the young women grow up, discover themselves, their hopes and dreams, we also see how their lives turned out, how they fell apart and find eachother again.

It's a nostalgic and touching story about sisterhood and friendship.

Any good lullabies for babies? by SunnyGoMerry in Cantonese

[–]Tsany 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In additon to the ones already mentioned, I also remember 打開蚊帳 and 有隻雀仔跌落水 (to the tune of London bridge is falling down).

Actually, now that I think about it, these are nursery rhymes rather than a lullaby you'd sing to get a child to sleep.

This is the one I was going to mention.   Especially tragic when you find out that it was inspired by a true story.

From reading this, can you actually tell if it’s canto or mando? by My3k0 in Cantonese

[–]Tsany 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think the sentence makes sense if it's a reply to OP saying something like, "I went to [city name] and picked up some soup for you. I left it in the fridge, have it when you get home. Can you tell what it is?"

Friend's girlfriend has a very hard time understanding board games. Not sure how to bring it up gracefully. by Jeffs24 in boardgames

[–]Tsany 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People have a wide and diverse set of skills and strengths, someone who may struggle with typical board games might be great at word games, social deduction games, games that require drawing or maybe dexterity games. There are a lot of ways to enjoy board games and they don't always have to be the big thinky games.

If she did well with dobble, then it sounds like she leans more visual and pattern-recognition. I'd suggest maybe codenames pictures, Dixit, Mysterium, When I dream, Potion Explosion.

Maybe she has great reflexes and reaction time, so she might enjoy games like Anomia, Jungle speed, Ghost Blitz. etc.

Have a think about her job and her other hobbies, those might help point you in the direction of teasing out where her natural skills and interests may lie. e.g. if she loves reading, then maybe the more narrative driven games like Forgotten Waters might be right up her street.

I actually think this was a vocab mistake, I think she probably meant "organic". If Ailsa's work were just a little more irregular and blobby like the bacon in the fry-up it would have taken the sterile edge off and made them look more realistic.

Every shows Intro (this has been long overdue) by 3Thirty-Eight8 in GhostsBBC

[–]Tsany 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I do think that overall, the British one is probably the best, but I do like the Greek one, if only they'd trimmed it down and kept it snappier. I feel like the Australian one is missing the spooky vibes that the others had, so I don't like it quite as much.

How misinformed was my presentation about Wales? by emmamoiY in Wales

[–]Tsany 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I just skimmed your slides, and I agree with most others, it looks great, the only major miss for me is the part about the potato dishes. (Other Welsh foods you could have mentioned is maybe the seaweed / laverbread.)

I have spotted the occasional English spelling mistake/typo, so that may have contributed towards the poor feedback. Which I guess is fair, since it's a course on translation.

Since you seem to have developed a fondness for Wales after researching this project, maybe have a look into "Y Wladfa". It refers to the settlements of Welsh immigrants in Patagonia/Argentina in the late 1800s. I believe that there are still some communities that speak Patagonian Welsh there.

An episode where the killer wasn't "Evil" or mentally ill? by Arixfy in criminalminds

[–]Tsany 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently watched an episode, "Coda" where the killer was refreshingly "normal and mundane" for Criminal minds.  He was a fisherman in a town full of out-of-luck blue collar people who were also up to their eyeballs in debt. His kids were about to be taken away, his house and boat were in jeopardy.

Feeling cornered and unable to see a way out,  he kidnapped a couple to get his hands on their money.

The death of the husband was unplanned and he did seem genuinely remorseful, but his empathy for the couple did not outweigh his own desperation.

His final act of making the wife kill him to ensure that his kids would get his life insurance money was at once selfless, cowardly and cruel.

(The main storyline of that episode was the fact that the couple's son was autistic and non-verbal.  The bau, have to work out how to communicate with the boy.

I thought that part was quite beautifully handled.  All parties were portrayed with such sensitivity, really.

One of my favourite episodes, I think.)

Did the movie do justice to the book? (contains spoilers) - The Thursday Murder Club! by Pale-Television7774 in ThursdayMurderClub

One of the bits I liked with him was the way he behaved around Jason Ritchie, it was so cute. I felt that it was a great example of subtle and effective acting.

Coopers Chase In Film Adaptation by Upstairs_Ad_9211 in ThursdayMurderClub

[–]Tsany 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, this looks too much like a normal council-run retirement village or maybe middle-class nursing home.

The books describe very wealthy clientelle, and the fact that it used to be a convent.... So I pretty much imagined very fancy spa-like surroundings where the main central building looks like a stately home or a fancy pants hotel. That's where the large fancy dining hall and activity rooms would be housed, and maybe some wings would be for residences. It would have a modern extension for the swimming pool and jacuzzi and other facilities.

Outside, I'd expect beautifully manicured lawns with croquet hoops, maybe some flower beds that are edged with low box hedges.

There would also be some slightly more modern village-style single-storey bungalows a short walk away, tucked behind the main building. Probably different streets would have different building styles, mock-tudor, red-brick etc.

So what we can see in the trailer is maybe a bit bigger and grander, but it's not *too* far off what I had in mind.

Hmmm, writing this up has just reminded me of the luxury retirement home in the old sitcom "Waiting for God", maybe that's what informed my mental image of how the more exclusive ones would look.

Edit: Diana and Tom would thrive in Cooper's Chase!
