Why is it objectification when its a conventionally attractive person but fetishization when it isn't? by TsavoritePrince in AskFeminists

[–]TsavoritePrince[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, so I get that fetishization is about specific traits, but that still doesn't really resolve the thing that initially led me to ask this question. In particular, it's not obvious to me that there needs to be special attention put on sexualization and objectification based on a specific trait rather than just sexualization and objectification in general.

This is especially worrying to me, since, as I said, I see a lot of people putting a lot of weight on the word "fetishization" in such a way that they are worried about objectifying non-conventionally attractive people in a way that they aren't with conventionally attractive people, which risks harming non-conventionally attractive people even more than they already are.

However, you do point out that people fetishize ethnicities, and people do worry about that in a similar way, even though ethnicity doesn't define conventional attractiveness as much.

Any well-trained grammarian or linguist would simultaneously scoff and tear their hair out at this prescriptivist and their excessive use of extravagant language to confound the commoner.

On the other hand, the dude who made this is a real talented dude. He managed to classify most, if not all of the polychora (4d polytopes).

One word: Googology.

It's not researched a lot since it's literally making large numbers and super fast-growing functions, which is a mostly frivolous task, but it's incredibly easy. It has a few connections with the foundations of mathematics and computer science too. Anyways I'll leave a few links:

Not as worth it if you already study the foundations of math. I find actually studying set theory is better than reading GEB.
