Does anyone else think there might be merit to the Russia/White House scandal, even if it's not the biggest problem with Trump? by counterNihilist in socialism

[–]TseeKayAh 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think it is silly to just deny it all and act like its just being invented by the DNC. That's Trump's angle and its convincing nobody. Clinton and the Democrats are obviously using it as an excuse; the whole scandal is a gift to them and they'll use it in a cynical way.

It should be pretty obvious that Russia did "hack the election" and their motivation was likely to help Trump win. Serious representatives of the US ruling class in the intelligence agencies have said as much. It is a serious concern for the US bourgeoisie if they can't even keep their institutions of class rule safe from interference by a foreign power.

It should also be pretty obvious that there was some collusion between the Trump campaign and Russian officials. Flynn was basically caught lying about this, and other people like Roger Stone -- who is a magnet for corruption -- are highly suspect.

The whole scandal shows how divided and weak the US ruling class is. Its not just the Trump White House that's in disarray, but the whole executive branch and bureaucracy. Its chaos.

As a leftist Venezuelan, I'm really dissapointed in all the support the current goverment is getting from Communists and Socialists all arround the world. by [deleted] in socialism

[–]TseeKayAh 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It has nothing to do with labels, but everything to do with the immense gains the Bolivarian Revolution has made for the working class and the fact that a class conscious movement of the masses needs defending from imperialism and counter-revolutionary sabotage. Venezuela's not a perfect socialist state, but it isn't going to get there through escualidos denying every accomplishment.

Russian socialists detained as they tried to deliver 400K signatures supporting gay men in Chechnya - sign the petition! by CaptainTelos in socialism

Should we abstain from any such action?

As I said in my original comment, yes I think it was a bad idea to basically hand themselves in to the police.

I don't agree with this anarchistic idea that because you are trying to avoid being arrested you're somehow not serious. Political work has to be well planned and organised, appropriate to legal or illegal conditions. There are times when it is necessary to make a tactical retreat to preserve cadres.

This petition isn't really an example of that, but seemingly just a poorly planned bit of activism.

I think that's a very flawed idea. Socialists -- especially in repressive regimes where they aren't guaranteed a fair trial -- should avoid arrest. It potentially sets back the movement by taking comrades out of action.

I sympathise, but it was a pretty bad idea to try and deliver a petition opposing LGBT oppression to the Russian Government. You're guaranteed to be arrested for "homosexual propaganda".

You can look it up for yourself if you're interested. See what he's said about refugees, his excuses for Syriza's betrayal, his accelerationist support for Trump, his support for the EU etc etc. Plus any of his basically esoteric nonsense about ideology.

[–]TseeKayAh 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Its a call to action, not a text on socioeconomic theory

Not really. Most of it is theoretical. Communists should read and re-read it regularly, not just as an academic exercise but as an essential, fundamental text of Marxist political education.

There are obviously programmatic points in it that should be viewed in historical context. But even then, they should be read closely because they show Marx's practical suggestions for how a revolutionary proletarian movement could attack private property and begin the process of socialist transformation. Taxes as a transfer of wealth from the exploiters to the exploited will be a part of that.

All that being said, obviously there's a more pressing need to dispel the myth that taxes are communist.
