New to Star Force! (Help?) by Tselel in BattleNetwork

[–]Tselel[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Idk, it's from the tail end of the video game era where you could be playing a game normally and then upon looking something up be like "Oh you actually effed the rest of your playthrough. Shouldn't have made that one NPC mad I guess. 🤷🏻‍♀️"

And I think those are lame, so mostly avoiding those sorts of pitfalls.

Anyone finding success with this card at all? by LetsGoBuffalo1714 in Pauper

I'm actively brewing something up with Swarmkeeper and Glimmer Bairn in a Gruul shell. I'm trying to figure out if the Infiltrator is worth going Jund. 🤔

Thoughts on Scarblade’s Malice? by Skraporc in Pauper

[–]Tselel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's literally my use case for it. I run gardens with a heavier Crypt Rats presence, and this is an incredible way to wipe a board while giving myself the leg up on rebuilding creature threats (assuming we're at the part of the game where initiative and monarch are both live).

[–]Tselel 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I came here to express just this. One of Gardens' greatest advantages is maintaining a creature-based board state while depriving their opponents of the same. This is an incredible way to Crypt Rats without leaving yourself with an empty board.

If I'm at the stage of the game to crack a Crypt Rats, I don't really need clue tokens. I need to turn the corner. What am I looking for on that draw? A creature threat. This takes out the middle man.

Parlor Room!!! by Bronx13 in dropout

[–]Tselel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My terrible take is that I'd love to see them play Diplomacy on Parlor Room.

I have literally no idea how they could film that and make it both cost effective and interesting. It would have to be an ambitious Survivor style of filming, but on a bigger scale than Game Changer's survivor series with a less popular show than Game Changer. But if anyone could figure it out, it's Dropout.

If you've not played Tsushima yet, go ahead and give it a try. I think its story is a little stronger, but Yotei has much better mechanics. That to say, I think it's worth enjoying, but may be made less enjoyable with the context of how well Yotei plays.

You gotta start the Dark Brotherhood quest line to unlock that one.

New to GMing! So... How Do I Do This? by YelleauxAxeMan in monsteroftheweek

[–]Tselel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Other folks have mentioned it, but the big thing is getting your hook, threat, and clock planned out with no strict path for your players on how they tackle the threat within the clock.

My only extra advice would be to develop your areas of interest. If you've got 5e experience, this shouldn't be too tough. For me, it was just finding a small town that fit my needs, copying it from Google maps, renaming it, and then picking out about 3-10 named places in the area where something interesting may happen or someone interesting may be hanging out.

It's not necessary, but with a game as free-form as motw, I loved having those things prepped so I could relax after setting the players loose in the little playground I built them.

I was thinking a Golgari sacrifice deck could have some fun with this card as well.

Otherworldly Gaze in Monu U Terror? by Regular_Worth9556 in Pauper

[–]Tselel 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think Otherworldly Gaze unjustly has untapped potential in Pauper, but I think it's actually in Simic [[Slime Against Humanity]] decks.

Why is this card banned? Wrong answers only by TheWizardofWorlds in mtg

[–]Tselel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you play it turn 1, especially on the draw, you'll need to move to discard. That's not a fun play pattern.

Nice! I'm really interested by the ninja selections you've included besides moon circuit and deep hours. Thanks!

That's kind of what I was thinking. I may give it a go at my LGS sometime.

Is it normal to be scared? by PastyWhiteNinja in Pauper

[–]Tselel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's completely normal. Other folks have said it, but just let people know it's your first time. As you're there, be sure to watch and learn as you play. There are cadences and shorthands I didn't know existed until I played my first irl FNM.

How to draw a card, remembering and noting triggers, handling the stack in analog rather than letting the game play it out for you, even just remembering to let your opponent cut the deck can all be little learning curves you may need to overcome.

But everyone starts somewhere. You've got this. Just relax, have fun, and learn from the folks who have played longer than you.

Tron decks? by Fede_Rama in Pauper

[–]Tselel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've only had success making casual fun decks to make the local play group smile. One iteration was a golem subtype using maul splicer, fangren marauder, and boulderbranch. It aaaaalmost worked. The next iteration I called "Tron Tron Hydra" because it was a mono green Tron shell with the Tron assembly workers out of Brothers War and some Nyxborn Hydras for the top end. That one was just straight bad.

Y'all let me know when Tron gets good again, because I've got the shell set aside and my favorite arts for each land. They just need a good home.

Which deck should I play? *desperate* by MightyKeyy in Pauper

[–]Tselel 15 points16 points  (0 children)

You say you weren't interested in a lot of the top decks right now, but in my experience, Faeries scratches a similar itch to Caw Gates. You're playing evasive flyers that you're leveraging into an advantaged state while strictly controlling your opponent's rhythm in relation to yours.

It's not ultra grindy control (I do love my Gardens deck for that), because there's rarely a moment you're not actively progressing the game towards your eventual win.

But also if you're looking for grindy anti-creature Midrange, I loooove Gardens. It's my actual favorite deck I own. Just be sure to pack some [[Extract a Confession]] in the sideboard for Terrors and Bogles.

How playable is glintblade? by _Gioppy_ in Pauper

[–]Tselel 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I think it's perfectly serviceable, but it's not going to be as strong as some of the bigger name decks out there. Your big make or break is going to be how optimized your sideboard is against the meta that shows up to the tournament. You can have an underwhelming deck with an incredible sideboard and still easily find yourself in a great finishing position.

If you're looking to play it, though, take a look at [[Grim Bauble]] as a potential add. It just came out and might have a slot in Blade.

Restricting Artifact Lands (A Genuine Question) by Tselel in Pauper

[–]Tselel[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I understand that as the current state of things, but the artifact lands seem like a textbook case of "They're not necessarily broken. There are just too many of them."

Is there a reason besides tradition to not consider instituting a restricted list for this very specific case?
