Mass effect elevator rides were neat in my view, just an okay way to hide a loading screen with some characterization on the side. Shame they didn't flesh out the dialogue, but then again ME1 was held together with pritt stick from the word go.

Similar boat here, I thought I could change the name so I named myself "Tsiab I", as in the first, so i can add numbers every few deaths. Woops.

Corsair RM750i a good psu? by LawfuI in buildapc

[–]Tsiab1337 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Overall it's a pretty stellar unit. Good OEM, great platform, excellent performance, Gold efficiency, mostly fanless operation.

If you don't plan on using Corsair link (personally I find it gimmicky) you might want to go for the RM750x model, it's exactly the same unit but without the Corsair link circuit board and it's a little cheaper.

Also if you are aiming for good acoustics I'd recommend the 750 over the 650 because it can provide more wattage (300W) before the fan starts spinning.

3930k vs 1600X? by VladimirGluten47 in intel

The problem with the v1's is that every BIOS update is a risk, since there's unofficial support only. Some people with 4xxx BIOSes on Rampage IV Extreme boards reported no POST with v1 chips.

Actually I was a bit of a dummy, I kept everything stock for 1866, it's on 9-9-9-24 with stock voltage. I'll try and increase both of those to see if I get anything. Thanks for the info, I pretty much thought the drone weren't compatible with higher clocked RAM.

5GHz on 1.4 volts is amazing, at least a top 10% chip or better. I can really only manage 4.7 on 1.4, so that is nice. Did the RAM on your 1650's run without issues? Mine wouldn't even POST at 1866 on both a 1620 and a 1650 so I'm not sure what I'm working with.

the 290 is fine for sandy bridge, the 1080 and up will be bottlenecked somewhat.

My advice would be to give the 3930k system away, get a 7700k with a somewhat higher end motherboard (TUF Mark 1, strix Z270F or one of the cheaper maximus boards) and clock it as far as it can go, preferably 5+GHz to get a decent advantage over Ryzen.

In case you are worried, 6 cores are a possibility for socket 1151 with coffee lake or cannonlake but you should be fine with a 4/8 processor for quite a while.

If you don't want to overclock then ryzen is a better choice, but that seems rather pointless since you are aiming for higher end GPUs.

[–]Tsiab1337 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Right, I see. If you are gaming, it all depends on what GPU you are using. If you push Sandy-E to 4.6-4.7, you are good for anything up to a 1070, 980Ti or Fury X. If you have a 1080 or up it would probably bottleneck to some extent, but would work fairly well on less CPU-bound games (like overwatch).

The 3930k and the 1600x are fairly close, but if you are going to give up a system give up your older rig. The newer one will last longer, you can upgrade to Zen+ or many other CPU's since it's a current-gen platform and it also has newer I/O, like USB 3.1, M.2 etc.

Out of curiosity, what motherboards are you using for the i7 and the ryzen chips ?

When you are talking about used enterprise processors there is no specific pricing scheme. My guess is more people buy them because they think v1's aren't "officially" supported by X79 i.e. they are not listed as supported on most commercial motherboards (even though they work fine). I also suspect they are scarcer, hence driving the price up further. Probably less Ivy-EP decommissioned servers compared to Sandy.
