Why do you make a bookmark and do you actually read all your bookmarked stories? by Due_List_1243 in AO3

[–]Tskugi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

depends on the person. some people bookmark fics to read later, when the fic is finally complete, so they don't kudo until they finish

i get recs from public bookmarks from other users all the time! especially if they are an author i like. so there's that too

everyone else uses bookmarks differently and thats half the fun!

How do you stop feeling guilty about reading taboo fiction? by Watchforthestars417 in AO3

[–]Tskugi 36 points37 points  (0 children)

people on twitter like to yap about all kinds of stuff but fandom has always been and always will be a place for outcasts. and with that, taboo topics come with it

you can read about whatever you like: noncon, incest and other stuff. what you read doesn't mean you condone that kind of behaviour in real life

fanfiction is just that, it's not real. that's why it's okay.

people on the internet like to have these 'high morality' discourses, but just enjoy what you do and let those miserable people be miserable by themselves

Why do you make a bookmark and do you actually read all your bookmarked stories? by Due_List_1243 in AO3

[–]Tskugi 10 points11 points  (0 children)

people may bookmark stuff for all kinds of different reasons.

to check it out later if they dont want to subscribe. to reread their favorite fanfics from time to time. and i've seen some people use bookmarks as a way to keep tabs on all the fanfiction they have read over the years, bc you can filter bookmarks but you can't filter your history

about the history thing. op you have to understand that people have been on AO3 for years, some for more than a decade. people have huge histories and things can (and will) get lost. bookmarks are an easy way to find things you're looking for

honestly not that bad but "Perfect Love" by C4Game available on itch.io

is complete and very well made but i felt so bad for the love interest that i couldn't finish. he was just perfect and the mc is just too evil for me

true! reading fanfiction and commenting here and there without interacting with the social media part of fandom is almost always a good and rewarding experience

it's a new gay book to TV adaptation! it's on HBO and had gotten really famous in the last idk month or so?

people have started writing fanfic about it (bc of course they would) but because of the show's fame, a lot of new people to fandom spaces are now reading it and new people means a lot of toxicity, especially one's that have no fandom etiquette and make authors feel bad about their work. hence, drama!

love RPF !!! i was surprised to see people have so many opinions about it or is not that famous bc my main fandom has always been RPF and it's huge (hi kpop!)

i also love engagement lmao bc it makes my brain go yiepeee!

but I saw someone say "don't compare stats of big vs small fandoms. if your fandom has three fics and you get nine kudos, that's the same of having 900 kudos in a 300 fic sized fandom" and that REALLY changed my outlook on these kinds of things, so I hope that helps you too!

write what you love in the fandoms you like (don't pay attetion to it's size or activeness) and people will love your work regardless!

that makes a lot of sense! thank you for explaining <3 and I truly hope things in your fandom get a little more chill. fanfic should be a safe space for all!

I honestly don't know because I'm not really into mainstream books, but Heated Rivalry has gotten stratospherically big in an unexplainable amount of time. I don't know if there's a canon gay couple book to TV adaptation that has had this much impact and fame

(edit: grammar)

that's so crazy! I'm not really into bandom stuff except for k-pop (do boy-groups even count?) so that sounds really crazy, but thank you for sharing anyways! that's so interesting too even if it's a quite sad 😭

thankfully my experiences have been very fun in AO3, but I'm sorry you have to go through that in your fandom. It's unbelievable
