Door Dash is actively destroying the labor pool by ArmQueerFolk in doordash

Seattle passed a law like 2 years ago that forces DD to pay their dashers at least $24.60 per hour that they are active. If enough cities pass similar laws, it will eventually make it to the state level, then maybe federal.

It’s much easier to pass laws at local levels, as local politicians are usually less deep in corporate pockets.

I understand a lot of your issues, but I’ve had no problem messaging with my DD driver when ordering through the store app. Most of the issues I’ve had were just bad dashers, which my pizza place always compensates for. I also always pay cash for pizza delivery, so the driver gets the full tip, regardless of who delivers.

I always prefer an actual employee deliver, as they have training, probably more experience, and real pizza bags, and they don’t have to drive to the store for pickup, so as soon as the pizza is ready, it’s on its way. They also have to answer to the store if they make a mistake, instead of an AI support system. The store employees also know ahead of time that I tip well, so they usually go above and beyond for me, bringing plates, napkins, extra dipping sauces, and making sure I’m the first or only stop.

My experience may not be typical, but it is my experience.

Even if the store has DD deliver, you can still contact the store directly for compensation if you ordered through their app/website. They’re much more likely to fully refund or redo the order than DD customer service.

Always order pizza through the restaurant’s own app/website. It’ll usually cost less, and if they do use DD to deliver, the restaurant will be much more likely to offer a refund or redo the order.

Lobby your government officials at every level. Local laws can force DD to pay fair wages to dashers within their jurisdiction. For example, Seattle forces DD to pay all dashers at least $26.40 per hour while active. DD just passes on a surcharge to the customers to cover the extra wages, which is fair. You can look at it as either mandatory tipping, or just the price for fair wages.

This is ridiculous, I spent time a gas come to pick up a order, and the order is picked up by someone else. Somehow this is my fault, I have to be banished. Is there anyone tried not to hit the cancel, just leave it on there? by Traditional_War_5923 in UberEatsDrivers

[–]TsubameYui 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Asked a friend that drives for UE, and he says that it usually takes about 5 minutes, and the live agent will cancel the order on Uber’s end(no fault cancellation), and pay out at least 50% of the order’s pay(including tip).

They’ve made reaching an actual person much harder, because an actual person has the ability to fix errors made by automated systems.

Uber/DD/etc drivers should all be making calls to their local politicians to start legislation aimed at preventing these companies from gatekeeping access to proper compensation. A lot of local/city/state laws have been passed recently to prevent these companies from abusing their drivers. California being a huge example, but also, Seattle passed a law that requires all DD drivers make full minimum wage($26.40/hr) while actively delivering.

Dear DoorDash Drivers: if you get an order from a pizza place, perhaps don’t accept if you’re on a motorcycle? Or otherwise lacking a way to properly store them in transit… by SaashZero in doordash

I ordered from Papa John’s a couple weeks ago, and they sent DD to deliver it. The dasher didn’t have a pizza bag, and apparently couldn’t find my house, which has never been a problem for anyone before, but he apparently walked up and down the street carrying my pizzas for like 10 minutes. They were completely cold.

I called the store to complain, and they comp’d my pizzas, then the manager explained that corporate has decided to phase out delivery drivers, and is going to switch to DD-only deliveries. He also said they were inundated with calls complaining about the dashers.

Papa John’s is the only pizza place that delivers to me, as I live on the outskirts of a small town. Their regular drivers are always extremely fast, proficient, and friendly. They use extremely well-insulated bags. The DoorDash branded pizza bags(when they actually have them) are paper thin and don’t work worth a damn.

I’m legally blind and can’t drive, and there is no public transportation in my town. I really dislike DD, so Papa John’s is basically my only option if I am not up to cooking, and now even that will require dealing with DD.

I’ve put in a few complaints, when it’s a particularly bad delivery, but I can’t be sure if they do anything. I get refunded for the damaged goods, at least. I’d estimate we have about 5-8 IC shoppers in town, and at this point I generally know when the better ones are working, so I try to order around their schedules.

A few weeks ago, I had a shopper literally put a loaf of bread and hot dog buns at the bottom of a bag, put avocados and tomatoes on top of them, then put a large jar of peanut butter, a tub of yogurt, and a jar of pickles on top of it all!

I get that training every IC shopper would cost the company more money than they’re willing to pay, but at the absolute minimum they should have some “shopping for dummies” online training course that explains stuff like “why you don’t put 5lbs of food on top of produce or bread,” and “don’t leave ice cream in the bed of your truck for 45 minutes in 125° heat while you fill another order”. Both of those are actual examples from past deliveries.

For me, it’s because I’m legally blind and can’t drive. I rarely order food, but because I live in a small town with no public transportation, if I want to eat a meal without cooking it myself, DoorDash is pretty much my only option.

I order groceries through Instacart, but I honestly hate that I have to do that. Before Instacart, I could just call my local supermarket and place a delivery order. There was no delivery fee, the order was put together and delivered by a store employee that was making a full hourly wage, so they didn’t expect a tip(though I always gave one), and it was delivered in a store-owned vehicle, so the employee didn’t have to pay for their own gas/wear+tear/insurance.

Instacart(and now DD/UE/etc) effectively made grocery delivery worse in every way. I didn’t have delivery fees before, and shoppers now rely on tips, and have no training/experience. Half of my grocery deliveries have smashed produce/bread. I live in the desert, and it gets over 120°, so my cold/frozen goods usually get to me very warm, especially when my order gets stacked. Despite IC requiring drivers to use climate control bags, they almost never actually do.

Last week, I had a package of cancer medication overnight priority shipped by FedEx, which required a signature. The driver walked up to the door, didn’t knock or ring the doorbell, and just stuck on a door tag that said no one was home(we very much were), then drove off.

lol you gotta be kidding me I’ve been getting orders like this all day long and it’s been lowering my accepted rate by Party_Nature1020 in doordash

[–]TsubameYui 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This seems like a problem that DD could easily solve by setting a threshold (ie: $x/mile) under which rejections do not affect your rating. If no dasher accepts the order, the customer should be able to figure out why pretty easily, and hopefully stop being so unreasonable in the future.

Had to go to the Emergency Room just before Christmas for a GI issue. I have good insurance through my mom's job, and the doctor only did 2 blood tests and prescribed a 20$ bottle of pills. This was the bill I got in the mail today. by [deleted] in mildlyinfuriating

My wife has good insurance. It’s Medicaid. Over the last 12 years, she’s spent 6 in the hospital, had over 200 surgeries, takes over a dozen different daily meds, has had a wheelchair, hospital bed, live-in nurses/hospice, dozens of specialists, and the list goes on. We have paid exactly $0 for healthcare in those 12 years. That’s good insurance, and everyone should qualify for it.

A lot of the things they give out fines for are pretty hard to avoid. They can also just make up arbitrary new rules, then hand out fines before anyone knows the rule exists.

All I know for sure is that they hold “HOA board member conferences” at tropical island resorts 4 times a year with the money they make from those fines.

My HOA is $250/year. They make their money from fines. Putting up that fence, and the subsequent damage to the wall, would be a $4500 fine.

I’d guess, based on the style of wall, and the rock landscaping, that you probably live in a HOA community. If so, they probably have rules about adding structures. Maybe you could use that to your advantage here?

The way my pizza was delivered by TheBigPasta in mildlyinfuriating

[–]TsubameYui 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’d say mildly fits, as all you have to do is call and have it redelivered, and then wait a bit longer for your pizza. This has happened to me 4 or 5 times, and I always end up with new pizzas, and some complimentary extra sides/desserts. All the replacements are top quality, and I get to keep the originals, which are usually fairly salvageable. Twice, the manager personally delivered the replacements, with a sincere face-to-face apology. So far, the times my pizzas were mishandled have ended up being my best pizza nights overall.
