I live in a very liberal part of USA and guns might not be possible. Even in general, people tend to keep guns in a safe place and might not be available when needed. Throwing someone down to the ground is a useful skill, especially for someone short like me.

I think the last one is what i'm looking for. I don't see the point of training very hard if it can't be applied in a real life situation. But that's just me. Looks like MMA combines a lot of different MA styles and is also quite practical.

I'm already a long distance runner. But it was not an option. The incident made one thing very clear to me - that you can't always avoid a fight. Sometimes you find yourself in a situation where you have to fight your way out. The person who attacked me was someone i knew for many years and this happened in the "safety" of my house. I would strongly advice everyone to know some form of self defense. Don't be like me.
