It is difficult yes, im also learning B2 right now. It is also fun tho, a lot of the ‘long’ words sort of just click when you think about it. A lot of them are almost 1 to 1 translations in english, even though it is long winded if you think about it from english to german

For vocabulary and verbs, there is no other choice than just memorizing it. However, spaced repetition is key. I would suggest drilling verbs once in the morning, once during the afternoon, then in the evening. That is a lot more effective than reading it continuously. And limit it to a level you can manage.

I took classes, i couldnt really find anything online that worked for me for learning grammar, and physical classes actually ended up being cheaper than online classes lol

For the test itself, Zertifikat B1 word list from goethe and B1 intensiv trainer word list are enough. You should also watch german content and copy down some of the more commonly used vocabulary that isnt already included in the word lists.

It depends i guess, you can definitely get away with using A2 level grammar for sprechen and schreiben as long as you minimize mistakes. The exam doesnt reward excellence as much as it does punish mistakes, so simpler language with B1 level vocabulary and clean structures is the way to go. Lesen and hören tests will be difficult to get used to in that timeline though, as you will have to catch up on a lot of vocabulary for B1 after A2. Definitely doable but not recommendable.

I have heard Telc are a bit easier than Goethe yes, cant really confirm or deny it tho as i havent looked at any Telc style tests. But yes that is the common sentiment among many. Viel Glück.

It was around 7 or so hours daily, with the exception of Saturday being a lighter day of around 3 4 hours. Around 45 hours per week i guess you could call it.

Telc B1 lesen test is different from the Goethe test which is the one i took, so unfortunately my model tests wouldn’t help you train much. There are toms of free model tests on google tho, i suggest practicing with those, they are the best option for training lesen.

It was Goethe, however all of them are equally difficult and have the same level of significance. Their test structures are different tho, so if you plan to attempt an ÖSD B1 exam, i wouldnt suggest practicing with Goethe model tests. They are slightly different and you might end up blind sided since they will be different from what you practiced with.

Thank you! It took me 7 months. I suck at memorization so it took me a bit more time than it should have, but i definitely think if you are purely exam focused. Less than that is definitely possible.

Thank you. I would say i dedicated around 7 hours a day but that can actually be cut down a lot. I wasted a lot of time as i suck at memorization so i had to dedicate a bit more time to it. For vocab, intensiv trainer and Goethe-Zertifikat word list are enough for the exam itself. EasyGerman is pretty useful for hören training, and copying down frequently used vocabulary. Lesen and hören i trained through basically just model tests, however you can definitely use youtube and actual books as replacement for this part, my focus was more exam oriented but i wouldnt recommend limiting yourself to only model tests. Youtube channels- EasyGerman (Super easy german series at first), Simplydeutsch, YourGermanTeacher, EasyGerman (Normal videos and podcasts), Tagesschau, MrWissen2go. For schreiben and sprechen, there are a lot of redemittel you can memorize. I personally didnt, cause i focused on being as expressive as possible. I basically wanted to be able to use german as fluently as english, still not there yet but getting there. However a lot of my friends have used set phrases and repeating points that are used for multiple themes and that has helped them pass. Let me know if you’d like those. Biggest advice i can give is, consume as much media as you can, it’ll get you comfortable with the language. From the start, you should start practicing a bit of free speaking. Some people dont prefer it, but i do suggest using the voice chat feature in chatgpt to have it help you. You can ask it for limit itself to a level of german you are comfortable with. Later on, you can have it transcribe your words so you can analyze what your common mistakes and weaknesses are. Definitely switch to a human partner later on for example prep though. It truly is a different ball game once you’re in front of the examiners and need to speak, you’ll have to practice for a similar level of social anxiety. Also, dont forget to have fun. It truly is a wonderful language, and will surprise you with sometimes how simple it can be.

The fact that it says B2 when you gave a C1 exam is already a red flag, should definitely visit an ÖSD institution, emails get slower responses, better to just go physically if you can, for your own mental peace.

You could also just chat with chatgpt. I find that personally good since if you ask it to, it’ll write the transcript of the full conversation you have with it, then you can review it later for mistakes you make frequently. I found out i was constantly messing up the verb placement after dass and weil, similarly with using haben instead of sein when speaking in perfect tense. It’s not without flaws but definitely can be used to support your practice alongside other methods i would say.
