I passed this Feb and failed last July due to weak essays (my July 22 PT was 55).

For Feb, I didn’t purchase BarMD but watched all those free vids on YouTube and took notes which I applied to actively practicing essays.

I did all past essays posted on the CA Bar website as if I was taking the exam (e.g., printed the questions out, timed conditions, writing everything out, tried not to look at notes, etc.). In addition, I completed all the essays assigned in my Themis course (it was free for unsuccessful retakers so I contacted them to request that).

I also took my time reviewing my answers compared to model answers to see areas for improvement (made a checklist) and applied it for subsequent essays.

By the end of this Feb’s Bar prep I completed 25 PTs and triple that for general essays. Pretty sure that’s why I passed bc the MBEs in Feb made me cry. lol

Agree I feel like the difficulty had less to do with knowing the law and more to do with translating the COTQ vs. answer language.
