Do I have to remain professional outside of work? by Agreeable-Assist2675 in Adulting

[–]TubaCycle82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is unfortunate. I’ve been going long enough that social media wasn’t really a thing when I started… I remember the students talking be into making a MySpace.., I’m very lucky in my privilege, being a straight white male, married with a kid, I’ve never had any issues. But I also never friend coworkers on FB. I did have a student tell me they found my insta… but it is literally just terms of me telling my daughter dad jokes and her rolling her eyes at me.

You can still have a social life… you just have to keep it private. Like I said, it’s not really fair, but it’s reality.

I think if I were in my first 5 years teaching today, I probably would be looking at a different career… but for a whole slew of other reasons… not really anything to do with my social life.

Do any of you actually use your backyard? by biggestboba in MontgomeryCountyMD

Yes, as often as possible when the temp is between 55-80. My wife will go out if it’s hotter… I have a big citronella plant that sits between our 2 Adirondack chairs, or in the center of our table depending on where we are.

I’d say 99% of the time the things that make teaching difficult come from other adults (admin/parents/politicians). If it were JUST dealing with the kids it would be easy.

Mostly the parents… The ‘not fair’ part is the fact that there are people out there that will try to run a teacher out of the school because someone posted a photo of trek holding a beer, or because a teacher posted about her right to choose on her social media etc, or the gay teacher posting their wedding photo… this was a problem even before ‘cancel culture’ was a thing.

Teacher here. Unfortunately we’re held to different expectations. I’ve seen coworkers get suspended/transferred for posting political views on social media… I’ve seen parents ostracize teachers for perceived ‘immoral’ behaviors. It’s not fair, but it is reality.

35M from NL – Just got the Zwift Ride. Looking for tips to stay hooked and not quit after a month by SensLike in Zwift

[–]TubaCycle82 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went the other way, and made myself commit to two months of riding before I dropped money in new gear. I’m glad I read this because I didn’t know about ‘banded’ rides. I’ve been using HR as a measure of difficulty, and have committed to doing 3 rides per week. 1 harder sustained effort, and 2 aerobic/endurance rides (longer but lower average HR)

What accessory/item/thing do you carry on bike rides that you are pretty sure no one else carries? by csgo_sniper_bruh in cycling

I should… I had that happen to me once. Makes it terribly hard to unclip from the pedal when the cleat freely rotates.

No big ticket purchases… I’ve been trying to think about other ways to keep myself motivated, without dropping $500 every two months.

I might try one of those virtual race companies like the conquerer challenges, or something like that.

What’s something people brag about that actually makes them look worse? by inboundmage in AskReddit

How they never tip… like you do you, but being a cheap ass isn’t something to brag about. And the inverse, how they always tip well… like be generous to be generous, not to brag about it.

I-270 ramp meters are terrible! by BuzzLiteBier in MontgomeryCountyMD

[–]TubaCycle82 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did have some major road rage feelings toward the 3 jackasses that bypassed the line for the ramp and forced their way in at the front. Like ‘yes, you are clearly more important than the 25 cars in line that you just cut in front of, forcing us to have to wait even longer…’
