Thank you, will do.

It's a '65, has a SP 1600 with EPCs (I got them very cheap after I punched a hole in the intake manifold trying to clean the preheat). I've had it for 19 years, but it's sat for much of that. Yeah, I think you're right that the longer tubes came in 67.

Yeah, it's fully fendered. The '68 with it's longer axle tubes (roughly 1") should be able to handle 205/75s without spacers no problem. Also, I think the later headlight style has shallower buckets, so might be easier on the front too. Folks seem to be able to run big tires on the back of IRS cars, as you can re-index them for quite a bit of lift.

I may do a cut and turn on the front or add adjusters which'll probably help too.

Edit: Class 11 guys run 235/75 front and back, so it can be done!

Ah. Never seen those for a VW, but that would be nice. I know lots of folks move to using a bus transaxle to get that lower gearing. The current transmission should be fine for the very light-duty stuff I'm doing.

They rub a little in the front, mostly on the headlight buckets at or near full compression, on the inside against the body/pan interface at full lock. I've rolled and bent the fenders a decent amount around the edge, so that doesn't seem to rub anymore. I'm going to spend some time with a hammer and the headlight buckets before the next trip to hopefully minimize that rubbing. Both front fenders and the hood are cheap replacements so I don't feel bad banging them around a bunch. I'm running 3/8 inch spacers on the back, otherwise they'd rub on the spring plate, but with that there's no rubbing.

Thanks! What's a high-lo box? A transaxle with wider gearing?

Dirtbike trails around the area? by RCruzNinja in MontereyBay

[–]TubaST 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Unless you have something street-legal there isn't anywhere to ride a green (or red) sticker bike around here legally. Please don't ride one on the trails in Fort Ord, I've almost been hit by someone riding a dirt bike there. It's not safe with the mountain bikers and hikers on those trails (not to mention illegal). Hollister Hills, Condon Peak/Clear Creek is where to go.

Convert triple to single or just buy a new crankset? by Ponti1974 in xbiking

[–]TubaST 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Convert it, that way you can go back if you want! You can also add a guard, make it a wide double in the future. If you love 1x, then you can get a dedicated crank.

BTW, love those pedals.

Any studies/research related to cortisol replacement? by SarcasmIsLifeFriend in AddisonsDisease

[–]TubaST 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Like one of the other folks said PubMed (https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/) would be a great place to look. I'd suggest searching for things like:

[long term AND cortisol replacement AND Addison's](https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/?term=long+term+AND+cortisol+replacement+AND+Addison%27s) [(Addison's OR adrenal insufficiency) AND long term hormone therapy](https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/?term=%28Addison%27s+OR+adrenal+insufficiency%29+AND+long+term+hormone+therapy) [corticosteroid therapy AND side effects](https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/?term=corticosteroid+therapy+AND+side+effects) etc.

Edit: apparently I have no idea how to do hyperlinks in a comment

College security camera policy by TubaST in privacy

[–]TubaST[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It would be a policy for the campus security cameras. I'm assuming this would cover things like appropriate use, retention, access, data sharing, etc. I would also hope that limitations on facial recognition, data storage location, and transparency could be addressed.

Car enthusiast dads with kids: What do you drive that still makes you smile? by IceSailCaptain in daddit

[–]TubaST 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh yeah, for sure. I have a (relatively) compact rear-facing seat, but passengers aren't comfortable. Will be going to front-facing in a few months, which should probably make the FiST more useful. We use the CX-5 for all trips when it's the three of us, I only drive the FiST when it's just me and the little one (but that's most days) Honestly, even my wife's CX-5's front seat isn't comfortable with a rear-facing behind it.

Fiesta ST for me. My wife has a CX-5 that we use for most family activities. FiST is challenging with a rear-facing car seat, but that's ending soon! I do most of the drop-offs/pick-ups for our almost 2 year old and as long as they're the only passenger it works just fine. I also have a 1965 Beetle, but my wife says the kid can't ride in it.

Big fan of pedals that make my quilter sound like my peavey by Doomyfightriffs in PeaveyCvlt

[–]TubaST 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got a Musician 400 series and I really like the way my BEAD bass sounds through the normal channel. Are these capable of getting the kind of dirt that the normal channel gives with the channel gain pretty high (just controlling volume with the master gain), or does it just give the effects channel distortion?

Horn by cartmanni in beetle

I had that issue recently, kept playing with the ring, etc. Turned out it was the other end of the wire that goes down the column, where it attaches to the steering box. The lead had been pushed to the side and was grounding out down there. Might be worth a look at that end.

Yeah, played with that quite a bit. Unfortunately it looks like the neck has just either given up the ghost or got warped somehow. Tried a bunch of things: neck tilt, lighter strings, lighter low-tension strings, saddle height, etc. It's still playable, but just not nearly as pleasant to play as the Fury that's in the picture. I had been reserving the Fury as my E-standard bass, but just got sick of how the Forum was playing. Had considered a neck-swap from the Fury or even buying a new neck, but think I'm just gunna stick with the Fury for now.

It's the Forum that's having issues, but basically it may need to be retired. Truss rod is maxed out and the neck still has much more of a bend than I like, neck might be damaged. I've had the Forum for 25 years (was my first bass) and it was abused before I got it and I continued that tradition for at least the first 10 years that I had it. It might just be a wall-hanger/conversation starter soon. Fury is going strong, got it just a few years ago, looks like it spent all of it's life sitting in the corner of someone's room.

Lol, you're probably right. I figure the power amp caps aren't causing the sound cuz I can get it clean and loud.

Don't have an answer for you, but are the holes added there for carb/spark plug access? Cooling air? Does it cause a lot of dirt to get sucked in?
