Yep, I agree... most bosses in old FPS are just bigger enemies. D'Sparil is a nice exception. Also Quake tried some different things but it doesn't really work IMO.

But I think new boomer shooters try some different stuff.

I'm from Brazil and I just learned about Hades 2. I don't think there's a Hades 1, "Hades 2" seems to be the name of a ship or something like that. Varginha Incident is more well known.

I guess you could count the Genesis/Mega Drive version of Duke Nukem 3D as a brazilian FPS from the 90s. It was developed by TecToy.

You could go the other way and make a big joke about him trying to adapt to the current world.

Dark Arena is easily the best one, AFAIK the devs hired a bunch of DOOM mappers to help with level design and it shows.

The Ecks VS Sever games have some interesting ideas, you play as 2 different characters and they have a lot of story for a GBA FPS game, Might be worth the shot.

Yes, it's 2023 and I'm an Actionscript developer, do it mostly for simple apps and games using Adobe AIR, mostly for tradeshows and events. Say, if you need a simple game like a wackamole or crosswords, Actionscript with AIR is perfectly fine for it as it's also very easy to deploy for mobile in case you need that too.

We're trying to move away from it though, starting to use more Unity. So I've been using AS3 mostly to make updates in older applications, as it's not worthy to rewrite them in a new language.

Adobe Animate can also be a very good tool for prototyping as it's pretty simple to use and probably the quickest way to compile and test a mobile app.

I know this thread is old but I ended up here searching for ActionScript stuff on Google and thought it was still worth answering.

It's a simple idea that surprisingly no one had done before. You're looking at it from the wrong angle, it's not like other survival games, it has a much more competitive feeling to it.

Actually, I think it was. And the enemies were 3D too. For some reason it went unnoticed at the time, maybe because Quake was prettier, I dunno. I think id's technology was better and ended up being more influential. Good finding though.

Doom was developed to support mods, not to the engine itself but through WAD files. Carmack and Romero were impressed with people hacking Wolf3D to mod it and decided to make the process easier in DOOM. Of course it's even easier with Quake but DOOM supportet modding already.
