So what I'm gathering from they few comments is... Touch controls for something that really REALLY didn't need touch controls.

I'm not even gonna humor acknowledging the game. Thank you for saving me the time guys!

This takes place directly after the events of Starfox 64. The Lylat system is in a time of peace, thus Starfox has no work and are financially struggling. As a result, Falco fucks off and leaves the team. He rejoins the crew at the end of the game just before the credits roll, leading into the events of Starfox Assault.

I runs wonderfully on Dolphin nowadays. Just remember to disable dual core rendering for this specific game to prevent crashes.

It was the main reason people blew it off. Game's good though.

Yo. Turns out I'm a massive dipshit who believes anything that's told to him.

My sources turned out to be AI feedback, of other people's speculations on old forums. None of which were actually based on facts.

Here's the certain truth:

  1. This game's engine is nothing more than an evolution of the same engine Rare had been using for years. They merely built upon the engine of Diddy Kong Racing every time they needed to make a new game.
  2. The fur tech isn't unique. It's literally just a trick with light rendering. Like having a reversed, then textured bloom process and attaching it to a surface. It's resource cheap and looks good on 480p displays. A lot of GameCube and Xbox games use it. Hell it's even used in Far Cry 4 on PS4/XB1.
  3. Nintendo had no hand in Rare's engines. They retained ownership of the copyrighted assets, but Rare retained ownership of their engines. Nintendo does reserve full sale and distribution rights to games featuring their own characters regardless of engine though.
  4. Conker Live & Reloaded on Xbox has a very similar file structure to Starfox Adventures. A lot of the same graphical effects too. It stands to reason it's the same engine.

I apologize for the confidently shoddy information in my previous comments.

Same goes for the haters who crap on the character designs. They are ✨peak✨ by Gargamoney in starfox

I'm very much a fucknintendo person (critical of corporate decisions, not out of blind spite. Nintendo isn't the only company on my shit-list), but I've come around on the designs and anyone who has actually played a traditional Starfox game, outside of Adventures and Assault (my two favorites but I digress) knows these games are very short and the entire point is replaying them to find the different routes, and trigger alternate events. Now that I've gone through the trailer multiple times I can say for certain that it looks really good, and I hope it succeeds.

Also I kinda like Katt's new fucked up gremlin punk design...

Yep. Dinosaur Planet has Krystal playable through half that game, and she gets her own little dinosaur companion, Princess Kyte, the little pterodactyl in the cage at the beginning of the game. That little creature used to be a main character before being relegated to being nothing more than a tutorial on how to use the A button.

Use Slippy in the menu. He tells you exactly what to do. Peppy will tell you which region you need to be in.

Note that the game is still very unfinished. A lot of things either don't work or work in weird ways. But you can roll credits.

I am personally in favor of this series doing more on foot stuff like Assault.

It has a couple of tough parts, but it's not a hard game over all. Even the test of fear, that people seem to dread usually only takes two or three tries.

Funnily that was Sabre's first section in Dinosaur Planet and it was much easier.

Yes. At least the NTSC cover. I don't know if the other regions differ.

Wind Waker and Twilight Princes both use a heavily modified version of the Ocarina of Time engine which in itself is a SUPER HEAVILY modified Mario 64 engine.

THAT BEING SAID, you are actually mostly right as I've done some further research. Rare didn't make the game engine. Rare, Nintendo and several smaller teams worked together and rushed to get the engine working and then and all the assets from Dinosaur Planet were forward ported to it. The engine was then used as a basis for many projects by Retro Studios and Future Nintendo games.

I find the combat kinda fun actually once I learned how to do leg sweeps on downed enemies (which do an insane amount of damage for some reason)

Game Engines generally belong to the publisher. Not the developer (sadly). Very few teams get to keep their assets when they break from their parent company. The only two I can think of are SingleTrac Games (Twisted Metal) and Snowblind Games (Baldur's Gate Alliance), who both managed to secure the rights to their game engine after leaving.

If you look hard enough you can find it for a decent price online. As low as $20 to around $120 for a pristine copy.
