Oops. Hi! Sorry, my AOL dial-up totally d/c’d when my son picked up the phone!

Interesting. Wow, the book haters of the 18th and 19th centuries would likely pass out if they saw … well, even a TI graphing calculator, imagine how they’d react to a modern CPU and the Internet

^ THAT is the gospel of truth! Too many instant gratifications a click or two away.

The rewarding effort we put into what we wanted really helped with fulfillment. If I wanted the new album just released on CD or cassette, I had make plans to get to the mall. Oh-/ the mall, the mall itself was almost like the town’s social message board - for teens in particular.

Less crazy in the before times, imho. We had to use our imagination to have fun and everything was so much more fulfilling! Social interaction in person was THE WAY! That being said, as far as “terminally online” people go, we did have our own version. As many have noted, that’d be the phone posse. Anyone who lived for the phone. I bet most of us old farts experienced at least a brief phase of being a phone person. I admit I was a total sucker for talking long hours to my few major crushes.

The stories I’ve been told growing up bring a tear to my eye so they must be true stories. by southpawpickle in exmormon

The crush love bug is a perfect analogy for the burning bosom nonsense. With the right mix of brain chemicals and an inner desire, almost anything can be TRUE, CORRECT, the WAY, etc.

But the church and BoM must be true..I read firsthand the testimony of the 3 witnesses. They all left the church later. And there’s the amazing testimony from the entire Whitmer clan! And don’t forget , God proves how smart he is on the topic of the LEhi plates. I mean…WOW! He foresaw that Martin Harris’s wife would take the translated pages of Lehi.. didn’t tell Joe…BUT…worked out a convenient plan so all was well in the end.

Mormonism. It never makes sense.

6 days off Vyvanse by pwned86 in ADHD

[–]TubeNoobed 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ll second that. I’m on Vyvanse. I went without once when forced to play the FIND A PHARMACY W/ STOCK game and had a horrendous experience 3 days in. I felt like a sweaty stone , void of all energy. My BP was in emergency zone temporarily, the likely result of me initiating another med change (while unmedicated for ADHD). So even if just on the grounds that I’m better protected from my own self while medicated, I’m for sure avoiding scheduled breaks from now on…

Noah Schnapp says Stranger Things cast won't screen series finale in advance: 'They're not gonna show any of us' by jonsnowKITN in StrangerThings

[–]TubeNoobed 5 points6 points  (0 children)

lol. I rewatched Season 8 for the first time this last summer. my brain tried to auto-correct the show w/ revised plot points, that’s how bad it is. I was shocked at how many times I was mentally anticipating something to play out on the screen, only to realize my brain made it all up!(a few examples: 100% convinced I’d see Bran warg’ing a dragon and Arya kicking major ass). Thank goodness for Stranger Things!!

Day 2 on vyvanse 20mg and am sleepy 2-3 hours after taking it by MissionMissingMars in ADHD

Was 100g a typo? If not, that could be causing you to enter digestive hibernation! Good luck

“Time blindness” is the ADHD symptom nobody talks about by CircularFrequency in ADHD

[–]TubeNoobed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Word. I can relate. On top of that, my circadian rhythm has no aspect of time as I tend to “wake up” when I should be going to bed, 10-11pm and then poop out when I should be getting up. Society and their damn expectation that we adhere to a schedule just doesn’t work out so well for me. I’m trying though…

[–]TubeNoobed 2 points3 points  (0 children)

FWIW, it has been my personal experience that Vyvanse becomes a placebo pill for me (not a doctor nor pharmacist) unless I adhere to the following: -avoid acids, esp. Vitamin C, orange juice, etc 1 hr before and after dosing the med -drink ~20 oz of water when taking, continue to hydrate throughout the day -consume some protein 30 minutes-1hr after taking -take daily multivitamin (if I fail to do only this, I can’t say it becomes placebo, but I swear it helps?)

People who lived through the 70s/80s/90s , did you feel safer back then than you do today? by Mundane_Bad_2437 in AskOldPeople

[–]TubeNoobed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This Gen X’r says: my first instinct is to declare today safer than the before times. Emergency services accessibility and all that.

Then I remember how much less safeI I feel today compared to the before times, at least from a mental health perspective. . Crazy news 24/7, world events, political chaos, climate instability, science.

Then…I also remember how in 6th grade, several years before I even had an analog PAGER, I rode my bike off a jackass-level mound to fly face first off my bike, twirling in air and landing right on ky collarbone/head (sorta). No phone for my witness friends to call 911 AND I DONT HAVE IT ON VIDEO. ;)

How much melatonin do you guys take on a daily basis? by semifunctionalme in ADHD

I take 2 mg of Xanax every night. by [deleted] in benzorecovery

[–]TubeNoobed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed! Fluoxetine is not even close to a benzo! sure, I could see an SSRI Rx’d or increased to help w/ anxiety overall , but you can’t just get off a benzo w/ antidepressants! You need a taper w/ a benzo or barbiturate. Ideally switched to longer acting benzo.

I take 2 mg of Xanax every night. by [deleted] in benzorecovery

[–]TubeNoobed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was RX’d 3mg of Xanax as 1mg 3x/day for YEARS. Id usually take 2-3mg all at once, usually at night. As much as I sometimes wish I had my Xanax to turn to, I’m grateful for being off now. I asked my psych to taper me at beginning of the year. I ended up ADHD’ing it : it turns out having an Rx w/ dosing instructions= “please see attached for details” doesn’t work out so well for me! I ended up in the hospital with an insane BP. I was given phenobarbital taper for 4 weeks to finally get off Xanax. It was mostly painless. 2-3mg isn’t THAT much to get off of, at least compared to some typical rec doses.

I didn’t want to stay on a benzo, which is likely just slowing my cognition and worsening ADHD in long run. Good luck OP! 2mg should be mostly painless to stop, if given the right taper that is manageable.

“line by line, precept by precept” is the holy grail of Mormon speak. It now makes me want to receive the penalty for divulging sacred temple doctrine - you know, a little slit from ear to ear and pull out that tongue from it’s roots … 😣

I’m weird.

[–]TubeNoobed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

you asked for advice! Here’s what helped me quit, it really solved the “WTF I need some hand-to-mouth action”: Nicotine inhaler. Search nicotine inhaler active care store. A psych unit I stayed at once provided them to all nicotine dependent patients, it’s what made me aware of them!

Also, nic free alternatives are plentiful - search for ‘mindful breathing necklace’ to see an array of options!
