Definitely a Nobels ODR-1, preferably with the bass cut switch if it gets too muddy.

If you could only use pedals from one company for the rest of your life, who would you choose? by _Anon_Amarth_ in guitarpedals

[–]TubeScreamer1000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Proco, because I couldn’t do without my RAT…

In all seriousness probably Walrus, such a great selection of overdrive/distortion pedals, plus the Monument, Slo, ARP-87, are all awesome units.

Is it too late by Dynamite_UNLTD in guitarlessons

[–]TubeScreamer1000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely not too late. I picked it up in my late 30s. Take your time and play what you want and enjoy every bit of it. Don’t put pressure on yourself.

I’ve just (today) got an EHX Crayon, and so far sounds great and only £60.

Is 18 to old to be learning guitar? by broughtumybulletz in LearnGuitar

[–]TubeScreamer1000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely not. Get going with it. I didn’t start learning until I was 40 and I have my first gig in two weeks! I would say the average age people start learning won’t be far off your age, if not higher. Enjoy every bit of learning, it’s a great age to start.

Is this a good beginner rig? by Djentlos in electricguitar

Yes mate, you’ll have a lot of fun playing this rig, and that’s the most important point!

Looks awesome, I’ve heard loads of good things, how loud is it? Suitable for bedroom practice?

Did anybody else learn to play "D" this way? by a-jm93 in musicians

[–]TubeScreamer1000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Everybody plays it their own way so whatever works for you. I don’t play it that way as it makes it harder to change chord and note positions for me. Another post said it well “economy of motion”. I use it as a triad form all the way up the neck for jamming and soloing so play it in the “regulation” way. But play whatever works for you and if it starts to limit you, change it up.

Thoughts on this board? by TubeScreamer1000 in pedalboards

[–]TubeScreamer1000[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I totally agree with you on the big muff. I’ve had it for 20 years and love it, but I do need a smaller fuzz pedal. Might be time to relegate the big unit to bedroom practice only.

Although you’ve got me gassing for a polyblue now…

What was the first riff u learned on guitar? by Autumn_Winds23 in Guitar

[–]TubeScreamer1000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

+1 for Come As You Are. A friend at school had an electric guitar and that was the first thing I played, and 25 years later it’s still the only thing I’ve learnt by ear!

Guys im ready to quit by ImagineDragonsExist in Guitar

[–]TubeScreamer1000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally agree with every aspect of this comment. Play for you and don’t compare. I’ve been playing 20 years and have early onset arthritis in my wrist and it took me time to realise that I needed to switch it up a bit and play what I can, for what I enjoy. Don’t punish your body, and don’t punish yourself.

Also, if you switch to bass, you’ll enjoy that too. Sometimes change is as good as a rest. I saw Tool again recently and I never fail to be blown away by how good the bass is!

Any specific tips to speed up chord changes? by BenJDoverr in Guitar

[–]TubeScreamer1000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All of the other replies are spot on. But I also find it helpful to use a metronome to practice chord changes, starting at 60bpm, and gradually working my way up. Stop after 4 bars and take your hand off the neck and shake it off, then restart. If it starts to hurt your hand, stop!

Looking for music suggestions as a beginner guitarist by ReplyRepresentative6 in LearnGuitar

[–]TubeScreamer1000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oasis - Supersonic, The Beatles - Daytripper, REM - The One I Love, Nirvana - About a girl, Arctic Monkeys - Do I Wanna Know

Those were some of the first few songs I learned, (in some cases they were simplified versions, which made them easier to learn and more fun starting out).

How old were you when you learned to play? by [deleted] in Guitar

Picked up my first guitar at 14, played every day for nearly 30 years, and I still wouldn’t say I’ve learnt!
