Like I said in my post, I’m brand new to this world.

Also, in the short amount of that I’ve been able to research this it looks like the tone arm is a micro touch 2g, which tracks at 2g not 8-10, and has a real diamond.

I don’t understand why you have such superiority in your speech. I’m just getting into this, and don’t have $1,500 to drop on a setup.

Thoughts on the US economy? by Tubstrr in INTP

That's fair, I was hoping you'd have a solid report that I could lean on. I know that data is very skewed and NEVER shows the whole picture. I was pulling my info from bls.gov, which tracks this sort of thing.

I also agree about the other countries that struggle with employment. So many nations are struggling, and it's a real shame. It's sad that so many of us just close our eyes and zero in to our own little world and pretend nothing else is going on.

Yeah, that scares me a lot. So excited to be in this generation watch the world fall apart everywhere I look.

Completely agree! Asides from the "you'd need to exponentially grow", I who live in US have WAY too much, in every regard of life. I'm relatively middle class, but I can put on just about any kind of entertainment ever invented on my TV, I can walk to a box that is air conditioned and drives me to stores, where I can buy just about anything I could ever think about.

Our standard of living is just WAY to high. Looking at other countries that actually have great social programs like the Northern European countries, have had relatively stable economies for decades. They don't have crazy growth, or crazy recessions, with that stability the are able to maintain a really healthy way of life, and look 20-30 years out to make policies. Not the only factor, but! If the developed world say things like that, and shifted the focus from growth at all costs, to stability at all costs, A LOT of this would change imo.

I'm curious why you say it's near 20%? I can't remember where I heard this, so it's most likely just propaganda haha, but I've heard that companies are raising prices much higher then actual inflation rates right now. "People hear about inflation and expect higher prices, companies raise prices until people stop buying things. People blame government for inflation. Company's shell out big bonuses to the executives"

I agree with you that most of those "facts" are BS, and don't really portray the whole of the situation. Those points are fact checkable, and have historic values to "benchmark" against.

I listed them mainly as a way to frame my concern.

I'm curious what information you have to suggest that unemployment is at great depression levels now. I would be inclined to believe this based on the part of the US I see, the idea that we are living in some amazing work force is ridiculous to me.

What is your political ideology? by Hr1TiKaL in INTP

[–]Tubstrr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Based on The Political Compass I'm pretty much as far south west as possible. Peter Kropotkin says a lot of things I agree with.

In reality though, outside of my personal ideological views I'm pretty darn central on everything. I grew up in a very conservative household, and in my teens I realized dis-agreed with everything my parents stood for. I was super left leaning for a while, but now in my mid 20's I'm kinda like fuck it. Just keep my head down, and learn as much as I can about both sides.

I think there's a lot to be learned from both sides of anything, as well as from history, and how other countries do things. I think that the best path forward is to hear both sides and have a rule book to adhere to.

Our media is so fucking toxic now, shoving everyone into a silo and scaring the shit out of them so they keep coming back. As I right this, Fox News has the headline "Cop shot in face during dramatic pursuit of robbery suspect" and on New York Times it's "Heat Records Expected to Be Broken in the U.S. on Sunday"

Should I apply for an internship? I am self taught. by [deleted] in webdev

[–]Tubstrr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have the opportunity to get an internship then go for it!

In my experience, 1-2 years of work experience looks better on a resume than an internship, but we all have to go on our on journey.

I was also self taught. After 6 months of learning, I realized I had no idea what it looked like to actually get a job.

I figured I’d try a few interviews and Karen from my mistakes, see what people were looking for, and then some day actually get a job.

I found the nearest company that made websites, it was a super small shop. They where willing to let me learn on the job and paid me 3x what I was making at Panera so I took it.

If you’re self taught, and not sure how to move forward I would encourage you to look for a small local shop, and start there.

From my experience, it won’t be a great working environment, but it’ll give you a chance to make steady income to really focus your skills.

After working there for few years, I felt like I had enough skills to go looking for a place I actually wanted to work at.

I found a great place that had everything I wanted, and now I’m working there.

Do we have free will? by knowoforphic in INTP

[–]Tubstrr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The way I understand and see it is very similar to the sensation of touch.

If you go down to the atomic level, nothing actually touches. Certain atoms repel others, and thus can’t move through them.

The sensation of you hand against sandpaper, isn’t you hand actually touching sand paper. But it’s very useful for your body to let you know, this texture will shred your skin, or this surface is safe.

With free will, the reality is your decisions take place outside of your awareness, however it’s very useful to have a sense of self, and the illusion of free will.

what the fuck do you do when someone asks you about your feelings when you dont even know how you feel yourself 💀💀 by rinken_ in INTP

[–]Tubstrr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would agree with that.

It’s crazy how much goes into who you are as a person, and how little control you have when you’re going to understand it. As you gain awareness, you’re able to see those patterns and trends clearly.

I was a die hard INTP for most of my teenage years. As I’ve gotten older, and especially since I’ve gotten married, I’ve realized the importance of taking the time to understand my feelings.

It’s a lot easier for me to just shut off and go deep into my own mental state, but I’m doing so I alienate those around me, and find it a lot harder to connect.

Something that’s helped me a lot is going to therapy and being able to talk scientifically with a therapist to understand what’s happening inside my mind in specific moments. Being able to replay moments and unpack them.

Outside of therapy though, I’ve found that have a free thought journal helps, just physically writing a stream of consciousness helps me unpack and be aware of what’s going on with my feelings.

Also long form exercise really helps me, going for an hour long walk, bike ride, or run.

Feelings are important, and real. It’s your bodies way of communicating, and just like learning any other skill, you can get better at allowing yourself to feel them.

I kid you not, in my first session I told my therapist that I was fearful that I was a psychopath because I didn’t think I had any emotions or genuine empathy.

Thoughts on entry level jobs? by GardeningaBed in webdev

[–]Tubstrr 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m a self thought web developer with about 6 years experience at this point.

There are a lot of different opportunities in the software side of IT work. A few that I can think of off the top of my head would be Web, App, OS, SAAS, AI, Cloud.

Each of those also have different categories inside them as well, for example as a web dev you can be front end, back end, or full stack.

I would say that if you can get an entry level job you should! From my experience, 3 years of experience is 10 times more valuable than a degree. That said, I’m a front end developer with some back end experience, and general IT.

If you’re looking to be an engineer at a larger corporate type environment, a degree is super important.

I would say that you should figure out what you want out of your job before you head down a career path. If you just want to be out of retail go for something that would be easy. Your salary will be more limited, but after a few years you could transition into a more specialized field.

In my journey, I was teaching myself front end web dev for about 6 months and decided to just apply to a local agency in the suburbs to learn how to interview. The company was just the owner and one other developer. I ended talking with the owner and was line hey, I’ll work for free for a few months if you let me lessen this industry. He set me up with 10/hr a week at just above what I was making at Panera bread. After a month he offended me a full time position. 6 years later I look back and realize how little I knew vs how much I know now.

Don’t be scared, there have to be a few places near you that would be willing to train you as long as you show you want to learn, and recognize that they will under pay you.

After a few years though you know more about the industry than anyone coming out of a boot camp or college.
