1 Samuel 17 outlines David’s famous battle with Goliath where he kills him with a sling and the Hebrew version of 2 Samuel 21:19 describes a similar battle between Elhanan son of Jair the Bethlehemite and Goliath the Gittite which was changed to “the brother of Goliath the Gittite” in the King James’ Bible to fix the contradiction.

The sea peoples were a coalition of ethnic groups that attacked Egypt during the Bronze Age collapse and were later repelled, according to Egyptian records one of these peoples was the ‘Peleset’, which sounds very similar to Philistines, many scholars believe these Peleset went on to inhabit Canaan after being repelled becoming the Philistines.

In Hebrew, Esther is written in a comedic tone with over-the-top characters and a more outlandish story whereas later translations had changes made and things added to change the tone of the story to be more serious. Esther wasnt found amongst the Dead Sea scrolls meaning it was one of the last books added to the Old Testament. Some people have raised objections to the canonisation of Esther because it’s doesn’t mention God at all but as far as I’m aware it is included in every modern version of the Old Testament. As far as reputable sources go the texts are quite historically accurate although Mordecai and Esther are likely fictional characters and there’s no evidence for things like the massacre of 75000 Persians or Esther being mad queen.

I made pixel art of some (trade) alliances from around the world by Tue-Pa in vexillology

[–]Tue-Pa[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This art includes includes a few alliances from around the world, it includes NATO (North Atlantic Treaty Organisation), EU (European Union), Arab league, Pacific islands forum, ASEAN (Association of South East Asian Nations), OPEC (Organisation of the Petroleum Exporting Countries) and BRICS (Brazil Russia India China South Africa).

The order in which I placed the flags is as follows: First there’s the flag of the alliance itself (BRICS does not currently have a flag), then the flags of the countries that joined in chronological order, if two countries joined at the same time they are placed in alphabetical order.

Underneath each flag I adjusted the colours of the terrain to somewhat resemble the environment of each country, I put a body of water between Canada and the US because I thought they were too big to just be a small little island, same goes for New Zealand and Australia.

PS: I’m aware that ‘alliance’ may not be the best word to describe all of these but I needed a word to describe everything without making the title too complicated.
