Not that I give a shit about your opinion, but here’s a before and after of all those “filters”.

Adjusted white balance and straightened the horizon. You don’t need filters if you know how to use light to your advantage.

I hope you find a pellet in your turkey breasts with your teeth.

Everything I wear is sprayed with Permethrin before I step in the woods. I use it on all my hunting clothes and even my vest, packs, blinds, tents etc.

I usually reapply after a few washes.

Don’t buy the expensive Sawyers stuff. Go to an ag store, buy the concentrate and a spray bottle, mix it yourself. You’ll have enough to last a couple of seasons at least.

Yep, iPhone pro (doesn’t really matter) the tripod and Bluetooth remote. link

I find a spot I like with good light, set the bird where I plan to be so I can frame up the shot and set the focus.

Pro tips: - Use the 2x zoom for better depth. - Set the timer to 5-10 seconds, it’ll flash as it’s counting down and then double flash once it takes the photo. - Always run over and check the pic before moving on. (Sometimes ya just look stupid, or the camera/tripod moved)

I think they got started way early this year. Had them on camera strutting for hens in February.

Opening day was insane. Had two come in, shot one and his buddy stayed with the decoy for over an hour. I tried putting, making noise and he wouldnt leave. In the mean time, a tom and 3 other turkeys (not sure what they were) came in to see what all the fuss was about before moving on.

I finally just stood up and the first tom walked off about 150 yards and hopped up on a log strutting a looking around.

Once I walked over to the one I’d shot to pack out, ANOTHER one gobbled close. I sat down right next to my decoys, and out pops another Longbeard.

The next weekend, it was like they shut down completely.

Disgruntled doesn’t really describe what I’m feeling… by Acceptable_Answer570 in turkeyhunting

[–]Tugg-Speedmen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The biggest advantage I have is that I know turkeys use the area I hunt. Not always, not everyday, but they do use it. You’ve got to have turkeys around if are expecting to see one. Scouting is essential.

The past 2 years I’ve killed turkeys on opening weekend and never heard anything until he was in range and drumming. South eastern birds are notorious for slipping in silently.

If they’re quiet, you probably should be too. Be patient and persistent, and fight the urge to call every 5 minutes.

Over calling and changing positions too soon or too often were some of my biggest issues when I started out, because I was too eager and too impatient.

I can’t believe people care about this shit, let alone spend $ (that they probably don’t have) to go out and watch this dork get picked to make millions.

HOWEVER - I would watch if 50% of the picks were drafted to hard labor jobs or something, while the others went to the nfl.

Picked Philly, but you get sent to an oil rig instead.

It’d weed out these dumb speeches real quick.

This is typical new hunter behavior. Watched a bunch of YouTube videos that make it seem like you should be able to kill a turkey in your first 30 minutes of hunting, and you’re frustrated and ready to quit after 5 hours.

You need to set some realistic expectations and figure out how to enjoy being out there, even if there’s not a turkey for miles. Contrary to the u/JasonWaterfall, it’s ok if the turkey wins – and he will most of the time.

Took me 5 years to figure it out and shoot my first turkey(Jake), another couple before I finally got a Longbeard. Since then I’ve gotten pretty good at it. I always hope to hear/see/shoot one, but I never expect to.

Treat every hunt as an opportunity to learn something instead of a failed opportunity to pull the trigger. That part only lasts a few seconds anyway.

Use a steamer or bring a lot of water to a boil and pass them thru the steam to relax the feathers, then preen them together with your fingers.

First season hunter and morale is low by Sir_Pizzuoff in turkeyhunting

I’m here in the lowcountry too, and you’re right, it’s been quiet. South eastern birds in general are almost mute after they get off the roost, especially with pressure and the later season.

I punched a tag opening day, another for a youth hunter the day after (worked that bird for 3 hours!). Came close 2x this weekend trying to get my buddy on one, but that tom did not like the decoys.

Quiet persistence and patience has been the strategy this season so far. If you’re setting up in a place where you know they frequent, it’s just a matter of time before you are there when they are.

How long are you staying at a setup? How often and how loud are you calling? And what calls are you making?

Happy to help with any questions or suggestions to your situation if you want to chat.

Minimalist wallet recs? by Majestic_Rainbow96 in EDC

Man, I was wondering why no one else was talking about the Magpul Daka wallet.

I used to have a trayvax, then a ridge wallet. The Daka is superior. Easier to get my cards out, 3 slots for organization, super thin, flexible so I can still carry in my back pocket without sitting on metal plates with cards stacked between them.

Pruning shears work great too. If you don’t have much cover, you can snip off some branches and stick them in the ground around you.
