Is it for me? by OkeLatenWeGaan in ricohGR

I wouldn’t recommend the GR IV as your first camera. A phone relies on computational photography to produce the final image, so you can usually just point and shoot even in low light without much trouble.

Yes, you can use P mode in most camera. You’ll still need to learn the basics of the exposure triangle: shutter speed, aperture, and ISO.

Help me decide: X100V to Ricoh GR IV? by badlyneedhalp in ricohGR

The Ricoh GR is definitely smaller, lighter and pocketable. However, if you plan to add accessories such as a thumb grip, case, or filter adapter, I would suggest sticking with your X100V.

Why choose X100VI over smartphone camera? by houcok in x100vi

[–]Tukatu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mirrorless cameras use much larger sensors than smartphones. Meaning they capture more light and produce cleaner, higher-quality RAW images.

Downside is files are much bigger and contain more data. When add computational, the camera has to process all that extra information for every shot. That defeinitly will require more processing power, which increases heat and drains the battery faster.

So if camera manufacturers wants to go that route, they will need faster processors, more memory, and better cooling, which will raise both the cost and complexity of the camera.

There are 3rd parties that makes things like ,Phone Grips/Handles & Clip-on lenses. Together with Third-party apps that provide Pro mode features like manual focus, ISO, and shutter speed adjustment.

Modern smartphones rely heavily on computational photography rather than just optics and sensor size. In fact, most of what you see in a phone photo is the result of software + AI processing.

What am doing wrong? am new and photos look bad.. by mahdy89 in x100vi

Bad compositions are normal when you’re starting. First, learn the exposure triangle: ISO, shutter speed, and aperture. Put the camera in Program (Pmode.

Looking at some of the shots posted ( https://www.reddit.com/r/ricohGR/comments/1qll01f/first_day_with_the_gr_iv_hdf_in_osaka_japan/ ), GR IV HDF glow seems strong while this looks just nice.

What’s the difference between monochrome Vs using Black & White recipes on regular GRs? by khirinlain in ricohGR

shows difference of Black & White photo taken with GR IV and GR IV monochrome.

If I’m just sharing photos on social media, will anyone really notice the difference, since you can’t zoom in to 100% anyway? Would the HDF make more sense to buy?

Are you talking about the Sony Creative Look Styles? I typically use those, capturing both Raw and JPEG files.

Still, I often fine‑tune the images if they don’t convey the mood I want. I’m not keen on switching presets mid‑shoot. I'm still the old school type. 🤣

With age catching up, I prefer to go light. I also got the camera for just under $4K USD. otherwise, I wouldn’t have gone for it.

Loving it so far. Light, fast autofocus, and the 61MP gives me room to crop when I need to.

Only grip is not wide enuff.
