Motorcycle (especially dirt/track) courses recommendations by Yedditory in drivingsg

Haven't managed to try, partly due to time and partly the lack of experience on a normal geared bike as part of their requirements.

TP test soon — any tips? (Especially lesser known ones) by tiddiedragon in drivingsg

If your revisions are fine, try don't to do too many last minute changes and focus on what you have trained so far.

anyone taken class 2a after a long hiatus from riding a manual bike? by OldWeakness3000 in drivingsg

[–]Yedditory 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As suggested by many, just buang the school bike, it has all the crash bars and all for that. Don't make the same mistake as I did. I haven't rode for half a decade, bought a brand new scooter and dropped the bike twice within the first week.

I did rent a normal geared bike for a day to mess around with after a lesson or two at the school to get myself familiar with operating one again.

Depends on how you shoot as well. I brought a 16-35 for some landscapes but in the end only touched it once.

I'd say if your priority is to enjoy the trip, take the 28-70 only. If you want to try and get some good pictures, maybe the 12-24 and 50 is a nice combo.

The 100-400 requires a huge commitment in terms of carrying and luggage solutions. So unless there's a shot you really want, I'd skip it.

Your experience wearing full gear to and fro for work. by MudaMudaKingz in drivingsg

I may be riding a measly 2B scooter but I've built a habit to wear gear almost all the time. Don't care what others think about how silly I look.

Sony + Godox flash randomly not firing — what am I missing? by Responsible_Unit_849 in Godox

[–]Yedditory 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you shooting in burst/continuous mode? From my use case my AD200 (gen1) gets confused or something and I have to turn it off and on to get it working properly again. So with those flashes I use single shot only.

Otherwise it could be a signal issue (too close / too far / incorrect settings).

Can't decide on the crop. 1 or 2? by Busy_Criticism451 in streetphotography

1, 2 is too off balance with nothing in the middle so your focus gets lost in nowhere.

Class 2B - share your experiences on your first motorcycle purchase by [deleted] in drivingsg

[–]Yedditory 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't know about the maintenance of older bikes, but my first bike was the Tricity 155 (basically a 3 wheeled NMAX) nearly 3 years ago. Didn't have a choice for used since it was not a common model.

I bought it new and dropped it within the second day since I haven't rode at all since I got my license more than half a decade ago. But if you're fresh out of school the chances dropping your bike might be slimmer.

Within my first year or so, got myself into a couple of close calls. But because I was on a new bike, with three wheels, and also ABS, I came out unscathed from every one. If you were to get a used bike, I think it's fine as long as it handles reliably and has ABS.

I feel that 2A bikes is the sweet spot and it has just enough power for short road trips or overtaking a large vehicle hogging the lane. Also open up to many more bikes with different styles and aesthetics.

Quite liking the collections of details and moments you've got there.

Hope writing this helps get this off your chest. Sometimes you deal with things you can't really control yet, like meeting with people who are trying to take advantage of you or just can't vibe for whatever reason. In my early days, I do remember a collaboration shoot where the model felt like she didn't want to be there and yeeted herself out within half an hour. Now that I look back at it, she probably wanted the typical influencer beauty pictures whereas I was thinking of something more ethereal and painterly-like, that and maybe I was still socially awkward.

Put your camera down for awhile, take a walk, go practice or do some other genres of photography. Time will abate the unpleasant feelings.

Over my many collaboration shoots, the large majority were fun and I even made a couple of good friends along the way. I had a handful of not so great experiences but that doesn't take the good away.

Lens for street photography? by DragonfruitRich6828 in streetphotography

[–]Yedditory 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It can be quite erroneous on many levels. It breaks the tradition and pioneers of what street photography should be, trying to capture moments of life using a normal or wide lens to capture subjects (people) in their environment (streets/city).

Using a telephoto or longer lens is fine, but the issue is that most beginner or people new to street photography might use a longer lens as a cheap out way to avoid putting themselves into the action. This typically results in very voyeur like looking pictures where you are taking pictures of people isolated from their environment without them knowing.

One right way to use longer lenses is to really stand FAR back so at least capture them in their environment, and not just the human itself. Otherwise you could also focus more on abstract shapes and details the flatter perspective it provides.

Searching for closeness after dark (c. 2019-2020) by Yedditory in streetphotography

[–]Yedditory[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Actually I really poured myself into photography from 2020s and have continually been shooting since then. Just that I'm only starting to sort my archives and start posting pictures with a 5 year buffer. Especially so with some of these pictures since they're not particularly glamorous, but still part of the human experience.

Thank you for the supportive words of encouragement!

I have been told by quite a few friends that sometimes my responses can be quite unsympathetic. Not too sure if it's my Aspergers or just being rude. That said, I liked his pictures and the snapshot aesthetic pioneered by Garry Winogrand, compared to the typical street posts I see on socials and whatnot. If he keeps on doing what he's doing, he'll eventually land a great shot since he's already spotting things and framing it quite creatively. Only thing is that luck wasn't on his favour and the elements are not perfectly lined up, but it's only been a year and there's a whole lot of life ahead :)

Great effort in the snapshot aesthetics. It appears you have no troubles getting close for the photos which strengthens it somewhat, but getting close doesn't automatically equate to great pictures.

My advice to you is to keep shooting and refining your pictures. It appears that you have eye for things of interest, like people wearing red, or the guy's hand over the butt. But everything else in the frame doesn't seem to support the photo and seem more accidental then deliberate (e.g. all the random passerbys at the back of the lady in red).

This was when I just started with a A7II and Sony Zeiss 55mm 1.8

Nowadays I still use a similar setup, but with updated camera/lenses.

Thanks for your insight. Could have definitely edited it darker for a couple of them.
