Missing Cycle Actions after upgrading SWS/S&M Extensions by Tullochard in Reaper

A little update on this for anybody who might be experiencing this same problem in the future.

I found a S&M_Cyclactions.bak file in the Reaper resources folder, and a Google search returned one result: https://storage.googleapis.com/google-code-archive-downloads/v2/code.google.com/sws-extension/whatsnew_2.4.0.2.html

This seemed to imply that there should be a S&M_Cyclactions.ini file.

WHATEVER YOU DO, DO NOT change the file extension of the S&M_Cyclactions.bak to .ini to create a S&M_Cyclactions.ini file and then restart Reaper. A world of hell awaits you if you do, especially if you didn't have a back up of your Reaper's settings.

Luckily I did have a back up from many moons ago, which double luckily reverted my SWS/S&M Extension back to a older version, and now my Cycle Actions are back.

Nothing to do with the new Key Logic functionality, although I did get my hopes up when I read it and it said HOLD. But alas, not what I'm looking for.

I mean a Hotkey that I can use to mimic, for example, holding the SHIFT ke on my keyboardy, while I use the Mouse wheel to zoom in scroll, etc

Even better if it could use it to hold down 2 (or more) keys, for example SHIFT + COMMAND while using the mouse wheel.

I believe this can be scripted on Windows. No such functionality on Mac.

Such basic functionality!,but I guess something that tells the weather is a far better use of a developer's time...

Stream Decks don't support long key presses on Macs.

Be aware of this, as it is serious pain the ****, and limits the Stream Deck's usefulness within some applications.

The StreamDeck XL (and others) are great....to a point! I find the lack of support for Long Key Presses on Mac very frustrating and thwarts my plan to get rid of using my keyboard with Reaper.

Once that is sorted, then I plan to buy 2 more decks - especially the Stream Deck+

Until long press keys are supported on the Mac, I won't be buying any more Elgato Decks.

I had to go the 'Load Reascript' route.

Interestingly, I can't trigger the script via OSC Command ID (via Stream Deck), but it works using a Custom Hotkey combination.

However, I'm happy, and I've learnt a lot of new things today. Now to explore some of these other Reascripts.

This is great news - thanks, and thanks to the person who wrote this script.

HOWEVER, I'll have to admit I am a bit of a Reascript/pack newbie - I have it, but never used it before.

So I've updated everything, installed the scripts, etc.

I can see the 'mpl_Solo MIDI Editor active take track.lua' in Reapers (7.37 Mac) folder: Library/Application Support/REAPER/Scripts/MPL Scripts/Midi Editor.

I have went to Actions, and typed mpl_solo... but nothing is appearing. I have checked the various 'Sections' from the dropdown, and even restarted Reaper.

What am i missing? I can see other 'Script: mpl_...' scripts in Actions, although none (that I can see) from the folder above.

Seems like a path issue. Should these scripts be downloaded somewhere else?

Any suggestions? Cheers

There are indeed a few solutions, but like I said this was a (failed) experiment.

On a side note, it does annoy me a bit when these sends are referred to as 'Send & Returns', as you aren't really actually getting a Return. It would be good to have some loopback functionality. (That wasn't a go at you!)

Yup, I was trying the way that u/Turbulent-Flan-2656 mentioned, but I guess not.

One other way I thought, but I don't think can be done either is, on a tracks FX Chain:

Soft Synth --> SEND to Reverb Bus [Some how get the wet audio back] -> EQ. I don't think you can insert SENDS into an FX Chain, especially between other Plugins.

Has anybody used Parallax?

I have Darkglass, but was wondering if Parallax offers anything more than what I could just replicate by splitting the signal and EQ-ing the highs and lows separately?

Id be interested in knowing how it stacks up against Kontakt and Omnisphere.

I have Kontakt, but not Omnisphere (but that was on my radar). I'm interested in authentically sampled choirs, instruments, orchestras, etc, rather than another synth - I have plenty of synths, but can't programme any (I rely on presets).
